omg omg omg someone just invited me over their house #166
Schlitz is your daddy and Dabz is your...step...daddy?
The right boat for me will cost as much as a house, but if I get the right boat I won't need a house. My home will be the sea
I got the same plans! 😆 Also, when the north pole becomes ice-free in a decade or so , I want to sail there with a Guinness rep to become the first human to circumvent the earth by swimming (in the sense that I pass all the longitudes in one go). Then I will immediately retire from swimming sports and give my crew a chance to break the world record.
can we start a euro pop containment thread?

No!
you absolutely can get internet at sea using starlink or whatever it's called, it's a satellite hookup you aim at the sky. i would not have wanted to live at sea before this modern age with wifi everywhere and camgirls galore
but then you're supporting elon, who is the world's biggest camgirl
i think i would really enjoy sailing for the first 3 days, then a little less for the next 5 days, then i'd just be okay with it, then i'd develop kidney stones and i'm alone in the middle of the ocean 2 weeks from the nearest hospital and i have no choice, i have just to pass these through my urethra and chew on a piece of wood or something and hope the boat doesn't run into an iceberg while i'm distracted by mindshattering pain
my cousin did very well for himself, he sold his house and 99% of his possessions and he and his wife decided they were going to live on a sailboat in the caribbean
last about 2 years, they still use the sailboat, but ended up a buying a house and repurchasing all new furniture etc because 24/7/365 life at sea was not for them, they don't even do the open ocean sailing but instead hire a crew to sail it to where they want to be (super common actually)
my sister and brother in law just got to realize their dream of doing that too. sold everything and got to the boat they bought on the east coast. they are loving it, but i would think it would get old really quickly. i couldn't do it for sure.
i was looking for boats online and a really nice new boat is mid 6 figs. a used one, like 5-10 years old still really modern and nice, a quarter mil. there's a neat one i saw from the 70s which still looks great, it looks totally dope it was listed for $30k. this is anti-real estate. this number goes down so hard and so fast this cannot be an investment on any level, this is outright lunacy why would anyone buy a boat???
the instagram algorithm is so good. after i expressed displeasure at the concept of boating, they started feeding me videos of bad things that happen on boats, confirming my bias. it's so good at confirming our biases, guys
sa, if you're serious about this then wait and shop 2nd hand market checking once every few weeks
boats of a decent size require a major annual nut for maintenance/storage/etc and eventually someone will just really price their boat to sell
i almost bought a 28' newport in pristine condition 2 years back for just 2.5k - alas someone else beat me to it - while looking at that boat listed elsewhere, in far worse condition, the cheapest i found was 10k
figured worst case scenario i can sell it later for at least what i paid + maintenance + storage + hauling fees put into it
alas i couldn't get it
