New York City Area Hype Discussion

New York City Area Hype Discussion

Did a quick check but apologies if this already exists, also might be a little premature either way but- given the movement towards online sports betting getting the nod, and the prospect of downstate casinos looming on the horizon would it make sense to create this thread for news on these potential future games?

What prompted me to make thread is the Ignition move out of NY- does this mean licensed regulated sites are on the way sooner rather than later?

Hmmmm, that is super interesting. Seems like that maybe positioned pretty well to win if they can get approved to lease the land and push it through. Do you know the area at all? I'm a NYC kid and have no concept of the politics in Long Island. But they seem to have the clearest path at the moment from what I can tell about all of the other proposals

Yeah nuances of LI are a mystery to me as well but from what I understand you’re on it, the appeal against their lease was their biggest obstacle. And because I think they’ve committed to investing in the site whether or not they got the license, feels like their race to lose.

Nassau, RW, EC wouldn’t be terrible for me, but I think that’s a relatively stupid outcome, unfortunately looks sorta likely

Im guessing with the Long Island one they’ll set up a lot of buses that will head there from various areas in nyc

Hey, will be in NYC for a few months and wondering where to play. I usually play 2/5 NLH and PLO. Is Atlantic City my closest option?

Parx in Bensalem, PA

also happens to be the best in terms of variety and dealers/floors

AC is actaully one of your worst options for poker unfortunately (unless you've never been there and wanna check it out, play at The Borgata).

You're best option would be Parx if you drive, and Wind Creek if you have to take a bus (daily trips from PABT via Transbridge). There's also a greyhound bus that leaves more frequently to AC but it takes 2.5 hrs as opposed to 1.5 hrs to the PA casinos.

Thanks! Anyone know of a place to play in the city by any chance? Dms open

Last time I looked (I don't live in Manhattan anymore), Transbridge bus only is for about 6 hours, and you have to leave the same day.

Yes, but I think there's a 2nd return option but I'm not sure. The regs that take it usually get to the poker room around 11:45 and they have to leave by 6.

I mean, it's not my first option, but I don't hate it with the amount of money that's out there. There's probably an even bigger Long Island poker scene than there is in the city, and there are lots of people with lots of money to burn

It's terrible. You have to either leave at 8:30 or 9:30 a.m. and return by around 6:00. It really sucks. I would love to play there but I'm not doing that

This certainly seems to be the leading contender for the 3rd license now

Long Island would be annoying, that doesn’t count as nyc come on lol

That's why I married my wife, she's my chauffeur

I know, I don't love the location. However, there are so many rich AF degens out there, so I don't hate it. Imagine the Venetian in Long Island, each table with hedge fund dickheads! I'd prefer that over Ballys and the Coney, for sure

Selfishly I don’t hate hate Nassau because I live in queens and may live in Long Island in the next few years, but it’s a bad choice. There’s Long Island money, but it’s more likely Long Island money comes to the city to play than vice versa.

On tourist dollars alone, the third license should be in Manhattan, I think it’s a long shot but it just makes so much more sense

if homestar learns to drive he will throw the whole imbalance of me making a statement that I have 20 adult friends or family (over 30) that don't drive .

212 will do that to you.

If you could potentially get comp rooms i wouldnt mind as much.

Totally agree, but at this point, I'll take what we can get. Whoever doesn't get a license is going to lobby the **** out of Hochul and Adams, so they'll probably more down the line

It's just that the way the law was written, it heavily favors those who don't have community opposition, and it seems like the Sands has the least opposition

You're safe, I'm never driving

I haven't seen much but I came across this tweet today which is something timetable wise although its basically hearsay

$MGM expects New York to award downstate casino licenses in late 2025, CEO Jonathan Halkyard said during a webinar today; MGM's Yonkers property is considered a favorite for one of the three licenses; Halkyard said table games could open shortly after a license is awarded

Not an expert in politics, but will the adams mess delay this any further than its already being delayed?

On the one hand there shouldn’t be any impact, on the other hand if there is an impact it can’t be good lol
