Been on holiday for a few weeks, surprised to find no general discussion of British politics so though I'd kick one off.

Tory leadership contest is quickly turning into farce. Trump has backed Boris, which should be reason enough for anyone with half a brain to exclude him.

Of the other candidates Rory Stewart looks the best of the outsiders. Surprised to see Cleverly and Javid not further up the betting, but not sure the Tory membership are ready for a brown PM.

Regarding the LD leadership contest, Jo Swinson is miles ahead of any other candidate (and indeed any of the Tory lot). Should be a shoe in.

Finally, it's Groundhog Day in Labour - the more serious the anti-Semitism claims get, the more Corbyn's cronies write their own obituary by blaming it on outlandish conspiracy theories - this week, it's apparently the Jewish Embassy's fault...

Minimal/negligible value then. Good for one's ego to parade around with a monarch on TV. Not sure how well that plays at home, though.

That was bitter commenty not saracasm. It's very important to starmer to let trump know he will bend the knee

Only if he intends to do some military stuff abroad, which last time around he showed little interest in.

In this respect Harris the prosecutor cop is more of a concern imo.

Quite a remarkable negative achievement in such a short time. And you get the strange feeling that the position isn't altogether recoverable from here.

He will go quietly imo. He's done the job he was chosen to do ie oust Corbyn and be completely useless while billionaires ransack what's left of public services. Lots of perks in the HoL. Will suit a gravy train slurper down to the ground.

Don't worry it won't take much to make it so that there are no billionaires left in the UK.

They will still visit and perhaps sometimes tip though, so not everything is lost.

He never imagined anyhting as batty as truss' reign but starmer is a classic macbeth tragedy in the making. They really did wisper in his were he he would be a great pm if he would just betray everyone and everything he belieevd in

If he doens't win the next election with a working majority then it will absolutely be a shakesperian tragedy. He really will have thrown away the greatest opportunity. The sort that comes about once a century.
