New fast food discussion/review thread

OK OOT, it's been a while since we had a devoted fast food thread around here and I think it's time we had a new one.

$6.79/Whopper in metro Phoenix Az, at least off the breakfast menu.

Speaking of seven bucks, RB's is advertising a $7 meal deal with double meat sammiches - Beef n Ched or Classic RB, with medium fries/medium drink. Seems like a deal? Dbl BnC is $8.59 a la carte from my local.

I like that each place is trying to make their own $5/6/7/8 meal combo as they're seeing mcds having success copying the already existing Wendy's meal deal menu.

But I'm not eating anything at dunkin donuts that they think is a good $6 meal. The hash browns are good but no to everything else

The Wendy's Free Fries Friday app deal is outstanding.

I wish 75% of the Burger Kings in the country would turn into Arby's.

The closest Arby's is nearly 20 miles away.
That ain't right.

I was planning on going to Wendy’s today. Couldnt make it down to see the Redhead. But that’s okay. She won’t mind much. She knows my love is true.

And the bogo chicken sandie (regular or spicy) app offer is good thru 10/7 anyway.

Today for lunch, at McDonald's I survey BOGO'd two Filet-o-fish. It's a pain that you have to order at the counter but a deal is a deal!

The plus is that you still can use an app deal for the free fries.

JITB has something similar. They call it Fryday.

you can tune a guitar but you can't tuna arbys

I had chicken strips and curly fries at Arby's for lunch. They were delicious. Esp with a ton of Arby's honey mustard. 😀

This use to be my go-to Arby's order 20 years ago. Then Arby's dropped the strips and I forgot about them.

capt dick winters might have jumped into nazi occupied france and taken down a heavily guarded machine gun nest in an act of such daring bravery and cunning, that it's still taught in military academies to this day as an example of how to attack a defended enemy position, and then made it thru the battle of the bulge, liberating Holland, and being the 1st troops to take Hitler's eagles nest, escaping the war unscathed as a true American hero,
but godamn man I don't think even he was brave enough to eat tuna at subway.

your bravery is unmatched sir I tip my hat to you.

Stopped at Arby's with the wife and kid yesterday, was bummed not to see the $7 meal but then very happily surprised to see it just listed on the menu board at that price. This resulted in the menu board looking something like this IIRC:

Beef n Cheddar
Regular: $5.39 sandwich/ $9.59 meal
Double: $6.99 sandwich/ $7.00 meal
1/2 Pound: $8.19 sandwich/ 12.59 meal

Not a terribly tough decision.

My wife and I both opted for the regular RB instead of BnC - I used to be a die hard BnC guy but have switched to regular RB in the last 5 years; at first I thought it was just me getting older but I've decided it's because they dropped the Red Sauce condiment they used to put on the BnC's (and BnC's only). We both got potato cakes, which have been nice to be back for a limited time (although I'm noting they've been 'back for a limited time' for at least 3 or 4 months). I did notice they seemed a tad smaller than they were before they left the menu a couple of years ago, and even compared to what I remember when I got some 2 or 3 months back. Hopefully just an anomaly but I'm guessing the shrinkflation man cometh. (It is so GD frustrating that some director of COGS at Arby's corporate probably got a $25K bonus by figuring out that if he cuts 9% out of the potato cake size, Arby's will save 2 and a quarter cents per unit, which translates to $1.2MM annual savings, and who cares that it makes their product just a little bit shittier, can't be any downside to that, right?)

I tacked on a buffalo slider and a jalapeno roast beef slider for my meal (ignoring the passive aggressive comment from my wife 😡 ). Both of those taste pretty darn good, better than the regular RB and the potatoes. Arby's buffalo sauce is pretty tasty (if not very spicy), and the jalapenos and melted (jack?) cheese really work nicely on the jalapeno beef slider.

My 11yo son insisted he get the bacon burger meal for $12 instead of the RB sandwich meal for $7 (I'm rapidly starting to miss the days he'd happily order off a kids menu). It did mean I got a bite of his burger and a few crinkle fries. I've had the burger before but not in a year or two. Very solid for a fast food burger even though it's not grilled on site (I think I remember that they cook elsewhere then sous vide it (read: boil it in a bag) on premises); it eats very substantial/meaty. A solid addition to the full time menu, that upon reflection really is kind of stacked with great choices. Relative to other national chains, they have a lot of sandwiches that make a pretty tasty lunch. I'm quite happy eating a classic RB, beef n cheddar, gyro, rueben, market turkey and ranch, french dip, chicken cordon bleu (which I'm not positive they still sell), buffalo chicken, and now, burger. That compares to 2-3 items I'd consider for a main course at McDs or BK. Wendy's has good salads I'll occasionally zag with that probably take them to 4 or 5. But I think for breadth of viable choices, Arby's is probably top of the game? They truly do have the meats.

In all I got out for < $35 for the three of us which is sadly probably in the 90th percentile for cheapest meal. And given it was dinner before a concert, with several orders of $25 cocktails, $15 french fries/popcorn and $10 sodas, a little relief on dinner was well appreciated.

They truly do have the meats.

Great TR!

Agree! And also concur that Arby's has the widest breadth of lunch/dinner entrees that are acceptable+.

this is a new thing at TB:

at first glance looks like another fast food emoji drumming up short term sales

I'm out.

Me too.

Wanna head to that soft seat at Wendy's? That's a FF game we know we can both crush for FAT VALUE.
