In other news
In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.
I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.
Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.
Lmao, that is brilliant.
Wasn't the panda thing out months ago?
yep
The Georgia State Board of Elections has just ruled that all ballots must be hand counted in the 2024 Presidential Election or the election will not be certified.
Matt Gaetz, new federal court filing, participating in sex crimes against teenage girls
St. John the Apostle Catholic School in Virginia Beach suspended a 11-year-old 6th grader
who reported that a classmate had brought a bullet to school — but not quickly enough
waiting two hours for the opportunity to make the report anonymously,
they said, was unacceptable and warranted punishment
the boy who reported that his classmate had brought a bullet to school was given the
same punishment — a 1-1/2 day suspension — as the boy who brought the contraband.
To punish the boy who alerted school officials to a possible danger is by itself indefensible,
but to give the other boy the same punishment renders their actions equivalent
it sends students the message that they’d be “better off not saying anything,”
he wanted to make the report about the bullet quietly, “because one of the things
he didn’t want was to be bullied and didn’t want to be labeled a ‘snitch,’”
but because he and the other kid disappeared from their classroom at the same time
and they served their suspensions simultaneously, his peers quickly figured it out
we don’t want them to be made out as villains if they
try to keep their school safe but don’t do it quickly enough
Didn’t know where else to put this so let’s stick it here lol
I posted a bunch of mypillow emails I got a few years back. Absolutely no idea how I got on their list lol.
With time I start feeling sad for the guy .
I guess that is what’s difference me with haters .
1488 lol these guys are total clowns.
These are the experts who told you to stay at home, double mask and under whose advice we destroyed economies
yes it is a real article
In June 2021, around the time that he attended the dance party with hundreds of others, Varma wrote an article for The Atlantic about the tricky calculus behind vaccine mandates and related COVID policies. “Many academic public-health experts favor more stringent restrictions than public-sector practitioners, including me, believe are realistic,” he wrote. He argued instead for what he called “a more targeted approach—one that neither requires universal sacrifice nor relieves everyone of all inconvenience.”
I mean he’s one of the people on your side, no?
Also hilarious how they went through that his sex parties followed covid protocol lol
Guy sounds like an absolute G tbh
Edit: wait looking at your response did you even read the article or just the headline?
Great choice by Newsom to veto the insane anti-tech bill (SB1047), a show of maturity and wisdom, very good. There is hope even in California

He does not oppose most of the far left culture war stuff, but generally Newsom has resisted far left attempts to destroy the CA/US economy and economic growth.
Fidelity cut the value of it's X holding by 80%, which would mean, if the valuation is appropriate, musk and friends lost 35 billions in the acquisition of Twitter
The schadenfreude boys can rejoice

When he took over and everyone had a hissy fit and said they were leaving and/or he'd ruin the site, I thought it was total BS. Man was I wrong.

When he bought it my understanding was most people in the know thought the offer price was way too high. Maybe there was some optimism by Cult of Musk disciples he would do some financial magic and make it a +EV investment, but it looks like the people saying this were right. Of course, who knows what was offered to his investment partners (such as the Saudi's) behind the scenes. So maybe if we knew all these details it would make more sense.
And obviously if Trump wins the election and pushes some deregulation and reigns in the lawfazre being waged against his companies, then you would probably argue it was definitely worth is.

Hindsight is 20/20. If only we knew then that basing your offer on which numbers juveniles find amusing because of their connections to drugs or sexual acts was an unreliable way of valuing a multibillion dollar company.

most users didn't leave so that prediction was wrong (for now?).
what left were many (most?) of the big regular advertisers because they decided to support the democratic party by boycotting Twitter, that's something Musk didn't anticipate.

Lol what? That's some hardcore revisionism. They left because of all the antisemitic, racist and other alt right bullshit. Or is "not supporting Nazism" synonymous with "supporting the democratic party" in your mind?

the exact stock price was a joke but the ballpark was there, in the "oops I might be overpaying" phase in 2022, musk anyway tried to offer 31 , then 39 billions (instead of the first promised, and then fulfilled, 44) so that was approx what it would have needed to pay to take it anyway even with no joking

they have no problems currently advertising where people can mourn the death of terrorist antisemitic leaders as martyrs so we know for a fact it wasn't about that.
