btw Walz was very well prepared with the Finland thing, it was quite a smart bait which Vance couldn't have anticipated, but Vance showed extreme restraint and avoided saying the truth which doesn't play well politically.

What was the Finland thing?

Walz claimed it was because of regulations while the truth is known (and discussed a lot in the rightwing IDW) yet can be misconstrued as racism so Vance had to bite his tongue and move on

Vance said it was weird lol. I think that's just what he says when he doesn't know what to say.

Vance attempted to insert the "weird" word everywhere to counter the "republicans are weird" Walz thing.

Vance said he was a leader in the democratic party. He's not. Vance was lying.

Vance seemed much better prepared than Waltz. He was put in some tricky spots, ie when they asked him about certifying the election. He can’t say they lost or trump and the base hates him and he can’t say they won or he comes across as an extremist. Yet he was able to smoothly maneuver his way out of that predicament. Overall he came across as relaxed and confident.

Walz on the other hand struggled with questions and lines of attack he should have been prepared for. Both inflation and why have you solved x issue yet since the Harris administration is in power? are two examples. Both points were brought up repeatedly in the presidential debate but he still had no strong answered prepared. Even issues that are strong for him like abortion he didn’t really come across as well as he could have.

It wasn't bait. He just said weird as a filler when he didn't know what else to say.

There is a reason why Vance has such a low favorability rating. I think Tucker Carlson is a much bigger threat.

Yes over the last 8+ years there’s been dozens of debates including primaries. They’ve all been as civil as yesterdays unless Trump was participating. BuT BoTHZ sIDeZzz

hard disagree with that because he absolutely bungled it by opening with "it's not just guns, look at finland which doesn't have this problem"

and then the next time he spoke it was "it's all about the guns" totally contradicting his earlier statement

feels like he had finland prepared, then got flustered by vance's response and just went back to an old talking point

Switzerland has 4 legally recognized languages and a lot of guns but almost no violence

It is hard to see what is impressive about a vice presidential candidate that refuses to acknowledge election outcomes. It would seem to be the absolute minimum you should expect from someone holding or running for public office. If he did not do it because he believes the lies, then he is dangerously ignorant. If he did not do it out of political ambition, then he has no integrity. Either alternative is bad.

If he at a later hypothetical time refuses to perform his duties as a vice president or perhaps even president after an election, it could be a catalyst for catastrophic events. Considering what happened in 2021, this is not an alarmist observation.

The other side of that is nobody closely associated with the trump presidency is seen favorably even by republicans. Vance is trying to walk a tight line.

It's his attempt to claim that gun violence wouldn't be an issue for a white-only nation. While it's true the rate of gun violence in blacks vs whites is significantly higher, in absolute terms the number of homicides from guns is still 3x higher in whites than blacks, owing to whites being the majority of the USA population. In other words, he's wrong that gun violence wouldn't be an issue if the rate for blacks was the same as it is for white people.

What would he say? He doesn’t know anything about Finland gun laws ownership rates etc and just moved on. Why would anybody have done anything differently?

I didn't claim that, and btw there aren't only blacks and whites and not all "blacks" nor all "whites" are the same (this is a general consideration and not related to guns exclusively).

France has a lot of blacks but very low gun violence.

The countries with the highest gun violence in continental Europe are balkanic countries
