Rightwing intellectuals all know Finland has the second highest gun ownership among first world countries, (measured in households with a gun or more as a % of the population) it was NOT a random example.

Vance is not a right wing intellectual. He’s a right wing populist like some of the right wing tech bros. He doesn’t really believe in the culture war crap beyond exploiting it. That’s why he’s flip flopped so hard on Trumps record, Trumps racism etc. he’s not a cukture war zealot. Anyone that knew him in law school could tell you that.

No it’s just funny what you think restraint is. Vance is awful, but not be t from a typical rural household and attacking him for that would be insane for any politician.
Restraint was shown by Vance, when Finland was mentioned as a country with a lot of guns but low gun violence, not to counter with what we on the right know are the reasons for the different amount of gun violence.

You think writing a popular level book snd never doing any academic work makes you an intellectual? I wouldn’t call Michelle Obama a left wing intellectual and she has the same resume as Vance.

This is likely true as a general statement, but it isn't an iron rule. There are a lot of exceptions, depending on how you define homogeneity. To that point, the statement is also overly facile because it ignores the question of which factors you are identifying as most important for the purpose of ranking by homogeneity. It also elides the question of whether the relationship is mostly correlative or mostly causal. (People like Luciom just assume the relationship is mostly causal.)
Finally, and this should be blindingly obvious, complex phenomena like rates of violence in a country always are multi-causal. That is an iron rule.

Finally,
I don't see even the general statement being obvious at all, countries in south america have been at time at the top of the chart of violence worldwide, and it happened to countries with no linguistical, religious, ethnical meaningful fractures inside society. El Salvador recently, Colombia before.
Some of the most deadly civil wars erupted with no ethnical, religious or linguistical separation barrier
