A few clarifications:
- For the genre categories, IMDB will be the decider if a show is a valid pick. Use common sense, though
- For "Gone Too Soon", we're looking for shows that were not intended to be a limited series, and that have been cancelled after a maximum of 2 seasons.
- A lot of shows are eligible in multiple categories. Declare the category you are picking in with the pick. You cannot change later
- I will not be organizing a vote to pick a winner, but I welcome someone else doing so if you're so motivated
- Once a show has been picked, it's off the board, as are any reboots. Spinoffs are still good.
Here is a spreadsheet for all the picks.
Nich is on the clock
resisting the urge to pick my favorite show with the #1 slot because it's in too deep of a category
Looking at the categories, all of them are deep except for one for me.
I'm going to be disappointed that I couldn't draft lots of options during this draft, but I think I'll be most disappointed by the difference between my first choice and what I would have to go with in the Medical Procedural category, as it's by far the shallowest for me personally and my favorite show in this category is one of my favorite shows overall, so I can't pass it up, even though I had two other options I seriously considered here. Those 2 have much better options as backups for me.
House, MD stars Hugh Laurie, the British Comedian from Black Adder (where he is super silly) who does an amazing American accent as a sarcastic, pain-killer addicted genius doctor. He has a research team and they basically take on all of the hardest, most 1-outer cases that seem to be attracted to their hospital.
Over 8 seasons, there is drama and arcs with the team members like any drama show, and there are a good number of good supporting characters that come and go, but the star and focus is House and his differential diagnoses. I admittedly haven't watched many medical procedurals, but that's because most aren't this good, afaik.
Great show. If you hadn't taken it, I might have just for the lulz
house gotta be the number 1 medical show
I'm not going to overthink my first pick:
The Wire
as a Police Procedural.
Not ashamed to say I haven't seen an episode of House.
Also not gonna overthink this and just grab the true GOAT show.
For series that premiered pre-2000, I'll take The Sopranos.
I don't even remember Olivia Wilde being in House. Was she in that from the beginning?
Her name was Thirteen and she came in like season 3 or 4 I think; it’s been awhile so not sure exact time range but yeah not seasons 1-2
game of thrones - fantasy
the only tv show that was a global phenomenon. sure the ending sucked ass, but the first 7 seasons captivated the world.
easy number one over all pick imo
1. Nich
2. ak56
3. D1abolical
4. Filthy
5. Xander
6. Zurvan
7. Dr Zeus
8. bolt2112
GoT awesome; don’t care if ending wasn’t good
It is the obvious number 1 pick though
Oh I missed that
Yeah, obv not the only global phenomenon
you'll have to point them out to me when they're drafted, cuz I cant think of another show that was standard water cooler talk at work in China, Iran, USA, Germany, India, Russia, etc
sorry! I didn't pm Xander til just now :(
I'm going It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia for 10 plus seasons category.
It's an amazing show that hasn't had anywhere near the decline that other shows going more than 10 seasons have had.
If you look at the top 10 rated episodes they come from Seasons 10, 4, 12, 11, 12, 5, 6, 2, 3 and 9 respectively. Any other show with this many seasons would have all the top episodes front loaded with a obviously decline.
Not IASIP though. They keep churning out the good stuff after all these years. Great show.
Obviously, with the entire history of TV there's a lot to choose from, and all of these categories have enough depth that we will all get something good. I do, however, think there's one category with an extremely short list of top quality shows, and two of those are clear standouts above the rest. This is a tough choice for me between the two. In the end, the final decision comes down to the one that got an ending in the run of the show.
I will select Freaks and Geeks in Gone Too Soon. This is a series that lasted only one season, but launched the careers of a phenomenal number of young actors and creators. Paul Feig, Jason Segel, Seth Rogen, James Franco and others.
both great picks. first round is strong

Sniped! If this hadn’t been a first rounder, I would’ve petitioned to join the draft.
