2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
Based on what I read I believe the basis for those 4 countries is that things are so bad it would be considered inhumane to send them back.
TPS went into effect in January 2024 and immigration is down severely in recent months so I'd dare say that TPS has literally nothing to do with a negative veiw of Kamala's work
TPS is a tool not to deport people who would have otherwise been deported.
it's a temporary "stay" sort of thing which doesn't allow for any permanent residency path (unless you had that available regardless of TPS) but basically let's you stay in until it elapses, even if the USA would have you deported otherwise, because your poor home country is bad.
but you had to enter before it kicked in for your country.
so it's about illegals entering violating all rules in 2022-23 and been protected from deportation because "reasons".
the reasons being "democrats find all possible ways to keep as many unskilled random people they can in the USA". hoping they have a kid soon, which will be a citizen, and so they won't be deported even later on to "defend the right of the American kid".
it's an extremely toxic way to push for a change in population.
and Kamala was theoretically in charge of the topic for central America. and what she decided was "let them stay in even if they are illegals"
Dems could explain why immigration (even illegal) is good and how its our secret sauce for GDP growth and how first generation children of immigrants graduate from college at higher rates and earn more than their white counterparts.
Its too complicated. You are a smart guy and I've explained it in this thread 4 or 5 times now and you still can't wrap your head around it
I've even pointed out that Trump realizes this and has talked about incentivizing citizens to have more kids. His anti-immigration fear mongering is literally the only reason having more kids would even be necessary

I don't really read this thread so I haven't seen your posts on the topic.
Immigration is good. Trump even agrees with bringing in educated people.
Illegal immigration, or simply having an open border where anyone can flow in, is probably not the best way to go about it.

Its exactly how we've been going about it for 40+ years. Works great. We are literally the worlds global super power

second generation immigrants from central America do not earn higher income than American white natives.
you guys keep using immigrant stats inflated by exceptional Asians to justify central American immigration, it's truly a scam
Well when Republicans had a chance to hire more border patrol and asylum judges they killed the bill so they could campaign on a broken immigration system.
Also, title 42 was killing our immigration system. We saw that towards the end of Trump’s presidency, a huge spike right before he left the office. When Biden reinstituted title 8 deportations they have been able to get it back in control.
Unlike formal deportations under Title 8, expulsions under Title 42 did not impose immigration or criminal consequences on migrants, meaning those expelled to Mexico could repeatedly try to cross the border. Under Title 8, migrants who are deported are banned from entering the U.S. for at least five years.

Trump destroyed our immigration system and he blocked attempts to fix it.
Now Republicans want to run on “Democrats created a hurricane to attack right-wingers”. Let’s hope these maniacs never get the presidency again.

you don't need more asylum judges, you can automatically refuse to hear the cases of everyone who enters illegally and only accept as many cases per year as you can deal with the current amount of judges.
more judges is a way to take in more refugees, which is not something you should be looking forward to.
and purple area republicans didn't want to give a win to democrats either , it's them who denied the bill not trump who is powerless to control congress.
and they are right: first and foremost your duty is to get re.elected to keep enemies out of power, that's by far the most important thing about every decision you vote for as a politician, in a bipartisan system, especially in the Senate where the controlling party controls the most important appointments: judges. literally everything legal you can do to increase your chances of re election is the best thing you can do for your constituents by definition.
which is why tens of billions to Ukraine passed even with trump complete opposition
if they are born in the USA they are natives (literally), otherwise they are immigrant.
if they are born from naturalized citizens they are both natives and second generation immigrants for the purpose of the argument above.
claim by coordie is "second generation immigrants earn more than American whites".
my counter is "that's not true for central American immigrants".
not sure what your objection is, I just wanted to keep the few (but super-high-earners) white immigrants out of the computation

Well even if we do that, we still have a huge backlog of cases, and the longer we let them stay the harder it will be to deport them. Biden has instituted a number of steps to deter false asylum seeking.
more judges is a way to take in more refugees, which is not something you should be looking forward to.
More judges could also mean more deportations. You don't know that letting them sit backlogged for 5+ years reduces the numbers of asylum seekers. The longer they have to wait to hear their case the less likely they are to be deported and the more likely they are to commit a crime if they are criminals.

Lies but ok.

That's stupid.

K.
Just interested in the difference in perception.
I’m first generation American but I never take personal offense at the Republican talking points about immigrants and their children because I know they aren’t talking about me. Children of European immigrants are never placed under similar scrutiny.
