2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
It’s just like how lefties think M4A is super popular because it polls well. That doesn’t mean that it’s going to actually effect the elections.
And M4A only polls well until you explain that it means no more employer provided insurance. Brexit ended up winning only because it wasn't defined. Of course free money plus anything you like about being in the EU we'll still have polls okay. But that doesn't exist and a healthy majority now think leaving was a mistake.

Yes, exactly. It’s easy to misuse opinion polls, especially on policy issues.
I understand exactly what you are saying. its a bunch of bullshit.
m4a polls well therefore it is popular seems like a pretty obv sentiment. seems like the onus is on you to disprove it and flailing at election results or claiming that those polled just didnt understand is not very compelling to me.
but I am not really sure why popularity would matter to a Dem supporter. isnt the point of the party to work against its constituents?
This claim by Elon is wrong. About 3% of sports bettors are profitable. Most people who make bets have no clue what they are doing
You could bet on Trump to win/lose in 2020 after Trump had already lost (just a hint at the sophistication level of those betting on Trump)
Hope that helps
Yeah, was it 8 or 9 figures that people managed to lose on Trump after Biden already won lol?
Yeah, this is probably the polling I would trust the most on this. It's old, and I'm not certain responders won't change their mind after more thought because they don't really understand what they are answering. Basically Obamacare + public option is by far the most popular. And medicare for all is under water.

why is it if it’s so popular that candidates that support m4a are being primaried or failing their attempts to primary centrist candidates? Why have justice dems actually contracted rather than expanded?

which is essentially my way of fixing it as well. not sure why progressives are married to single payer when plenty of countries like France and Germany have multipayer systems.

well now you are changing the subject. I dont think the m4a is moving the party so far to the right that they are no interchangeable with Bush/Cheney Repubs from 2004. but you might be right!

I think M4A is just a slogan more than anything. I don't see why Bernie Sanders would object to UHC with some people on a private plan. If the public option is cheaper or better, everyone will just use it anyway. Really the main goals are getting increasing healthcare access and not having ridiculous situations where you've been paying into an employer provided healthcare plan for years, get too sick to work and become in danger of losing care.

no leftist ever has any responsibility to change anyone’s mind. if they are failing politically it can’t be because their positions are unpopular it’s because the (((elite))) control the (((media))) and the (((party)))
Two things:
1) left is a relative term so on the general spectrum of american politics I’m left or center left. on certain issues I’d be considered far left even. but when talking to victor he probably considers anyone to the right of a communist right wing, so I would just use the term leftist to mean anticapitalist.
2) none of what I just criticized precludes me from being a lefty. I can be a lefty and say that leftists are too conspiratorial and populist
these markets are generally driven by whales, who are usually profitable bettors
i have low 5 figures tied up in the election - i drive the market more than 1000 rando losing bettors who each put $20 on it, and i in turn move it far less than someone like domer who has 7 figures tied up in the markets
but yes, elon alone could manipulate those markets if he wanted to, so long as he put enough buy pressure on it, someone like him could move trump very high before it reached an equilibrium point whe
Outside of one whale relentlessly driving up the Donald Yes price with like 2x anyone elses position size the most overloaded bet is Trump No

The idea that left is a relative term is propaganda from the right.
Feel there was concern from people in thread about Vance doing such a thing.
Yes, there are often posts from people that don't understand how the US government works in this thread. In fact, there has even been legislation passed since 2020 making it even more certain that the VP cannot do what was suggested for Pence to do.
what does that even mean? the left absolutely is relative, definitionally so. left and right are in reference to a center point, which is not the same at all times and all places.
this is true even on purity ideologies like Marxism. They hold that capitalism at its inception was to the left of feudalism because it was a revolution against feudal structures, but now it is to the right of socialism because all the structures to be revolted against are capitalist.
left and right are meaningless terms without an event state to graph them on.
