***Blocktober: stopping ChatGPT from naming the chat thread***
It's not the ChatGPT thread.
Yeah some people's main pet peeve in life is waiting for elevators.
I'm of the philosophy that I don't mind wasting 45 seconds now as I'm just going to waste the 45 seconds later anyway.
when trying to clear my mind at night right before a deep slumber
pretty sure the last thing that comes to mind is some encounter involving
hand waiving to confirm the intentions of a random person when presented with an elevator door
fundamentally it either goes up or down
no reason to think that hard about it
I didn't spend nine formative years watching Seinfeld just to go on to not think about the little things.

or see how long the stairs take
Caught a couple of octogenarians down Tucson ways last night. 5th row center, pretty great show. If you don't know Jorma, you don't know Jack.[/IMG]
they played in eugene a coupla weeks ago, how'd they sound?
pretty sure there's a ticket stub around here somewhere from Hot Tuna at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, early 90s.
Sound was pretty great. Mostly quiet, appreciative audience. We were close enough to really see the interaction between the two during the songs. Jorma was on fire, very technically proficient, lots of blues. He can really bend a note. And Jack is an awesome bass-player and it was obvious that they play off each other quite a bit. Trading licks, almost, if a bass and acoustic guitar can "trade licks". You think maybe they've played 1000+ shows together, Jefferson Airplane -> Hot F#ck!n Tuna?
Can I talk about a website I built? I realize this probably violates the rule. However, let me be clear, there is zero commercial application here. There are no ads. There is no tracking. I do not even employ any analytics. I have no idea if anyone has ever been to my site nor will I know if you check it out unless you talk about it here. If mods disagree, please delete but don't ban me.
One day, as a Bob Dylan nerd, I was wondering how many times Dylan had opened with a particular song. This information is available in many resources but is not really easy to narrow it down that specifically. I desired something ultra-clean and fast.
I started out building my own database in excel out of curiosity. This became an issue and I discovered mysql. This made my life miserable for a bunch of different reasons that are not worth talking about.
I decided to build a web application to perform searches. My problem is I didn't have any idea how to do that. I had to learn PHP and how to write proper queries. That wasn't all that hard but I quickly found out I was not anywhere near careful enough with how I entered data into mysql. I essentially had to rebuild the damn thing to get some data integrity.
Let me make this shorter, out of pure boredom, I had to learn mysql, php, python and javascript in the end to make it as clean as I have. No cheating, it was all done one line at a time. Test that line, debug and figure out how to do it right.
I initially had like five search forms doing different things but that made me mad. I wanted a single search form. I eventually learned how to parse what terms were being searched and execute based on that.
I realize there are like 6 people on the planet that would enjoy something like this and I am one of them
Anyway, I'm curious what you think of my implementation. I realize this is probably a trivial thing for web developers but starting from zero, I had a steep learning curve and I am admittedly a little proud of this. As ridiculous as it is.
I'm still thinking of things to try but is has been a long road to get here.

Nice work Az. I found the two Dylan shows I've been to (I think)
Does this list include Dylan/Petty tour from mid-80's? I think 86, but could have been as early as 84? A very early concert in my career.

It includes the Dylan portion. 1986. I have data for other artists that he was on tour with including Petty. But I don't include the other band's setlist in searches for now because I haven't thought of a good way to display it. Plus, I don't care that much about it. However, if they performed together, I list those songs. So, Petty and Dylan did songs together and those are retrieved.
And btw, it includes every live performance by Dylan from 1960 to 10/8/2024.
Awesome stuff!
I've only toyed around with it for a couple of minutes, but I'll probably be back around later--maybe during the football game.
I'm wondering if there isn't some commercial possibility for something like this with other performers? Every singer, band, songwriter, etc seems to have a hard-core following that would probably be interested. I know that wouldn't be a labor of love for you--but just a thought ...
poked around a little bit
will explore more later
and tom out here talking about a set list conglomeration website
where do i sign up?
dylan was the worst live concert i've been to
Really? You like Ashley Simpson better?
GmusthavehadthebackingtracksynchedupbetterthatdayG
also had a poor Dylan experience
i was at this one, Eugene 1998
lived two blocks away at the time
big fan of the Van portion but Bob dialed it in on a rotary phone
no matter 'cause Lucinda was amazing
this is her two months later
Yeah, it's all I can do not to give pokeraz **** every time he posts about Dylan. I was wondering if he was going to put a filter on that website for shows where you can understand a word he says vs shows where he's singing in some unintelligible foreign language. Then I realized you don't really need the filter, they're all in the latter category.
pokeraz you let me know if you want all this SLANDER deleted buddy.
Lucinda really sings to me. Thanks for posting that Red.
At least he’s not obsessed with The Beatles.
I will maintain that Dylan as a songwriter is far superior to Dylan as a performer. How awesome are all of the Dylan covers out there? Goddamn that guy can write songs.
First concert was when Lemonheads came and played at my high school - was a big event where two other schools came over - this was when they were somewhat popular
Best concert was seeing nine inch nails play outdoors in Beijing
Really wanted to see petty, tool, Pink Floyd & r.e.m. but seems like tool is only reasonable option remaining
Worst concert ever was Bob Dylan (didn't sing most of the songs and hid in the back corner behind a piano you couldn't even tell he was there and I thought I knew Dy
