2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
She didn't do well in the primaries but that's not the ame as saying Dems don't like her. Gore, HW Bush, Biden all did poorly in the primaries; that's why they became VPs in the first place. They would have run for president if they didn't.
Gore, HW Bush and Biden still won presidential primaries though. Gore lost (close), HW served one term after beating Dukakis, and Biden isn't that popular. Do you think she'd have won a race against multiple candidates in 2024? I don't.
To be fair , trump had gotten worst too since 2020 ( incredible isn’t ?) …and been convicted .
Well, the issue was more about how likeable Harris is, and even though Trump is awful, he's immensely popular and appeals to a lot of voters. Clinton and Obama both had the "it" factor. Newsom appears to have it as well. Kamala doesn't.

Running against multiple candidates isn't always bad. Trump won the GOP nomination in 2016 precisely because he was running against a bunch of candidates, all of whom resembled each other more than they resembled Trump.
(I obviously understand that Kamala wouldn't have benefitted from the same phenomenon. I'm just making an observation.)
I think the problem with this discussion is that it would have been absolute chaos trying to have a contested primary and certainly would have made it a lot harder to win. I still think Kamala would have done better with different tactics, especially right now. I don’t think she’s stupid like Trump says, I just think she overthinks a lot.
It’s a very tough position to be in that she has a great economy but gets no credit for it because people just assess the economy on vibes.
Another record high in stocks today fyi…
That's what I mean. As bad as things are people are still finding the need to organize against FEMA...must be really bad.
Luckily, I've never had to deal with FEMA, but I knew quite a few people who did after Katrina. There were absolutely no warm and fuzzy feelings. And that was without some loudmouth trying to stir dissent for his own personal political gain.

.
If Biden stepped down she would have been a solid favorite in the primary.
Maybe. She would have had name recognition and that might be helpful since most candidates are usually people the general public isn't familiar with, but there's no way of knowing how things would have played out over months of media coverage and multiple debates, against an unspecified field.

No. He has the charisma of a can of tomato soup and is not a good public speaker. And his handlers know it, which is why he almost never does press conferences or public engagements where he would be expected to speak extemporaneously.
I live in his state and follow local politics casually, and I cant recall him ever saying or doing anything memorable. It is all behind the scenes stuff.

Now that we have a sample size of 2 campaigns, I think it is pretty safe to say she just isn't very good at campaigning; which is why her first campaign for president went nowhere and this one seems to be underperforming. It is a skill she just doesn't seem to possess.

Well trump didn’t had pay 700 millions for diffamation by holding his own discourse …
I’m sure foxnews would be less « weak » if trump would give them half the fine they had to pay for his lies !
But his so cheap .
we saw how trump react too when he got stuck pay couple millions .

Yes like trump doing 0 debates as well to be the nominee?
It’s not like it’s only Kamala lol .
Lol. No. Any "form of lying" has to involve saying things that aren't true. That is a definitive feature of lying that you seem to fail to comprehend no matter how many times it's been explained to you like you're 5.
FYI (for the hundredth time), that is also why people are perpetually perplexed when you refer to things as "lying" that clearly aren't. Things "lying" doesn't mean: saying stuff you don't like, disagreeing with you, trolling you, pointing out that you have more fingers than IQ point
That isn't true
It's a traditional feature but I use this which is far mpore reflective of the nature of lying
.5.1 Conditions Are Not Necessary
Against the statement condition of L1 it has been objected that the making of a statement is not necessary for lying. Lying to others may be defined as “any form of behavior the function of which is to provide others with false information or to deprive them of true information” (Smith 2004, 14), or as “a successful or unsuccessful deliberate attempt, without forewarning, to create in another a belief which the communicator considers to be untrue” (Vrij 2000, 6). Importantly, this entails that lying can consist of simply withholding information with the intent to deceive, without making any statement at all (Ekman 1985, 28; Scott 2006, 4). Those who make this objection would make lying the same as intentionally deceiving (Ekman 1985, 26).
Against the untruthfulness condition of L1 it has been objected that an untruthful statement is not necessary for lying. This objection comes in a variety of forms. There are those who argue any statement made with an intention to deceive is a lie, including a truthful statement that is made with an intention to deceive ...

This nuance is irrelevant for present purposes. I have not made any untruthful statements to Victor, nor have I made truthful statements or withheld information with the intention of deceiving him. Nor does it make his usage of "lying" any less absurd.
Just thought you would like to know. It is a politics thread and politicians love lying without stating untruths. Especially the lawyers among them.
I wasn't opining on your opinions of other people.
Jessica Tarlov, calling out her co-hosts on Fox News.
Vance is a snake.
Vance is heartless has no shame no Integrity or principles... just like Donnie.
Shady Vance will be the one serving Trump the heart attack inducer?
So Trump and Vance want to deport immigrants that are here legally and use the military/national guard against the "radical left" and people are still planning to vote for this trash?
lol
The Ave Maria town hall thing was weird af and really shows his cognitive decline.
IF he were to win, it will be funny watching all his tech toadies almost instantly turn heel on him and 25th his ass to make way for their boy Vance.
Yep. Dont know how it will play but Vance is Peter Theils not trumps.
Is the consensus this was just another sundowning? His people had to interrupt him mid ramble to pull him off of some podcast the other day, too. Just completely incoherent, slurring words, rambling incessantly. Why is this not getting as much coverage as Biden did? It's worse.
Because Trump gets a pass on literally everything. I will never understand it.
