Survivor: GENERAL THREAD

Survivor: GENERAL THREAD

I wanted to post something Survivor related but realized there's no general thread about Survivor. Each thread is about a particular season or votes for hottest, best, etc.

Given that who knows when/if the show will come back, here's a general thread to post all things Survivor.

I won't ruin the OP with my content post, so it will come next.

Enjoy and come on in guys!

Teeny has been to two tribal councils and;

Tribal council 1) Flipped on both Aysha and Sol who saw Teeny as part of their core four alliance
Tribal council 2) Completely on board with Kishans plan to immaditely flip on their new core four

I saw an earlier comment saying Rome is unpredictable. However in reality he has (so far) only shown himself to be extremely loyal and forthcoming to his allies whereas Teeny and Kishan have been ones playing unprecictably

I think Teeny is a go along with the flow type of player rather than someone who wants to drive the bus. I wouldn't worry about her manufacturing plans to stab me in the back. My read on that first vote was that she was concerned about Rome's advantages and felt going with Rome was the safest course for now even though she didn't prefer him. She wanted to keep Aysha, but when Aysha refused to move in what Teeny felt was the safest direction, she let her go. When Kishan came up with a plan that allowed Teeny to go with her heart and realign with the people she wanted to be with, she was so relieved and jumped at the chance to realign with the people she favored. In neither scenario, was Teeny the driving force behind any plan. I see her as a tool.

Rome hustles for advantages and schemes to get things done. In addition, he's brash and threatening and rubs people the wrong way. I see him as an agent of chaos. Regardless of Rome's ultimate loyalty or lack thereof, if you get in a big enough group of people who find him annoying and want to take him out and you are seen as being tight with him, it doesn't seem like a good place to be. That's my take.

Kishan was sneaky as hell. He'd bear watching. But ultimately he came up with a scheme to remove an agent of chaos who held extra advantages. His plan, if executed, would have tended to stabilize the tribe rather than fracture it. He didn't bring up Genevieve's name because he wanted to target her, he was reaching for a believable narrative to present to Sol and Rome.

Sometimes a tribe being a $#!%show going into a merge can work to your advantage, but I wouldn't want to be the person married to Rome come a tribe shuffle. To each his own.

BTW...over/under on how long until someone on the show points out it's been four straight POC voted out?

This is well within statistical norm since most on show are POC

Surprised Probst negotiated for 18 eggs. Thought it would be more like 3. Definitely a CBS narrative to not kill chickens.

Was hoping Sierra was going to pull the trigger on Sam. Their power couple vibe is going to kill them. Diamond handing the idol was a big move just to maintain trust with Andy. Guess he can use the idol going forward as a fake.

Was really hoping he'd play it for Andy and then get blindsided himself. I don't mind Sam, but still feel that would've been the most fun as a viewer.

Funny you say that. The editors actually fooled me two episodes in a row as both times I thought they were setting up to a surprise Sierra boot with Sam cutting her to lower his threat level into the merge.

Sierra is pretty and smiles at Andy

From a theoretical perspective, Probst has often negotiated with tribes who were in a desperate state and been very tough because he's punishing them for being bad at Survivor.

In this case, the tribe was good at Survivor and had won a reward; that reward was not paying off in the usual way for whatever reason, and they asked to swap it out for a different reward of equivalent value. If you recall, the original challenge was 6 eggs for second place. 18 for first seems like a reasonable upgrade.

His goal was to blindside Anika by making himself seem like a clueless goat (not a difficult role for him to portray, admittedly). It at least showed some self awareness - they all think I'm an idiot, so I'll play into that by doing some pathetic scrambling that just makes Anika more sure of herself so no SITD gets played or Anika doesn't try to get a new plan going.

Also, unlike most people, he played it all the way through tribal.

Anika tears were delicious.

One of my growing inane pet peeves on the show is how other tribes gasp and act shocked at the reward/immunity challenge after someone on another tribe is voted out. Like, yeah, someone had to get sent home.

One of the greatest blindsides in that she never even entertained the idea of being voted out.

Any activity after the vote is welcome as i’ve said before. The Jeff Probst interview portion should be after the vote out

I was thinking about this last ep.
They are always mouth agape and ooooooohhhhhhh.

They generally don't even know that tribe at all or have any idea of their dynamics, so the omg face always seems forced and exaggerated.

I always assumed they were encouraged to act that way by production, which would explain why it comes off as forced and exaggerated.

Jeff desires a response to his get a look at the new tribe comment.

Anika's expression and the fact she broke down in tears told me everything I needed to know about her. Yeah, you got played but you're too immature or arrogant to just chalk it up to the fact you lost. REALLY glad she isn't on jury and we don't have to hear anything at FTC from her - about her.

Usually with the chickens second place gets smaller equivalent. 6 eggs = 1 chicken, so 3 chickens = 18 eggs. But I doubt if we'll see chickens again, I think there's been far too many times the tribe hasn't eaten them. I also wondered since they can't cook them for at least a couple of days, how long do those eggs stay okay in the hot weather? Would they take them away and refrigerate them? And then if merge is happening, would they share them with the others once merge happens?

Rome is just...wow. Did you not think that Sol and Genevieve and Teeny were going to talk at some point? He keeps shooting himself in the foot and making enemies and doesn't even realize it.

I definitely thought we were done with chickens.

I'm always amazed when people re-watch any season.

I would only re-watch any if I was going to be a contestant.

Anika had an epic exit .... shock, disbelief, accusation, crying +++ she must have though she had a good chance of winning.

Based on the exit, if Anika lasted a few weeks longer she was going to evolve into Venus.

Sorry if this has been discussed already and I'm too lazy to search it, but I saw something on Twitter asking people which season they re watched the most and I saw a bunch of answers that surprised me.

Which season have you re-watched the most?

Only ever re-watched Heroes vs Villains, and not since ~2 years after it aired.

Have occasionally rewatched a few single episodes… Dead Grandma & the Cagayan finale come to mind.

I've only rewatched Borneo and Australia, the latter's post merge was so boring on a rewatch that its put me off rewatching anything else for a good while.

However i've listened to all the Survivor historians podcasts (they've done up to s22) which I really enjoy along with whenever RHAP do a historical podcast series.

There's also enough good youtube content out there (Peridium, Idoled out etc) to remind me of all time great moments without having to go back and sit through full 14 episode seasons

How good is this season so far?

I skipped last season because multiple people said it sucked

All new era seasons suck.

The show is different now, and not in a good way.

I still watch because I'm a sheep.

Hoping we get a merge boost.

how can they do a schoolyard pick and not show us how they picked

lame

That was super lame.

At least Rome got to play Jeff before he left. I feel bad for the guy. He doesn’t seem like a bad person or big **** hole. But he’s just so damn annoying lol. And he doesn’t see it.

..five

the schoolyard pick is on the cbs survivor page as an extra clip

let’s just say that if anyone thought Andy had a chance to win (lol) then the lack of inclusion of this clip in the main broadcast should disavow them of that notion 😃

I guess an extra 3-4 minutes of airtime dunking on Rome on his way out was more entertaining anyway

Also interesting to watch, when there are people desperate to win, 'yay diversity' takes a back seat.

Can only assume these guys at home scream "hire more woman, hire more woman". But if we are picking for self survival... uhhh "We pick the men please" . Which makes it lol Andy even more
