New fast food discussion/review thread

OK OOT, it's been a while since we had a devoted fast food thread around here and I think it's time we had a new one.

Oy, E-coli hitting Mickey's in the west near where I live. So far it seems to be limited to QPC's, which I haven't had in weeks.

It was my first time ordering and I was at a Kiosk and I was under some pressure OK!?!?

Next time I'll be sure to ace the Cane's Test.

lol, practice makes perfect!

We finally got a Popeyes! Opened within the last few days.

Tried the LTO brisket at Chipotle yesterday. It was very sweet, which wasn't what I was expecting - almost like a mole taste and texture, but sweeter than that. But, it worked pretty well against the hot salsa, cheese, guac and sour cream in the bowl. It was ~$2 more expensive than the regular steak option at ~$13.25, plus $2.65 for guac, plus tax, plus a buck for tip came out to $19 and change for lunch. But - a) it was a ton of food - I was surprised how heavy the bag was when they handed it to me, and that was with requesting light rice. I immediately said "I should eat half of this and save half", then proceeded to eat the whole thing 'cause I'm a fatso, but it would be enough for two lunches, or at least a lunch and a snack, for many people. And b) I am continually confused by people who claim chipotle is bland, I like spicy food and have always found that the hot salsa adds a lot of flavor and a little bit of heat, which works great with their proteins. To each their own of course but I think Chipotle is well into the upper half of flavorful bites in the fast food/quick serve arena.

Quick serve burrito tangent: I've discovered a little airport tip I'm enjoying. The last two morning trips I've hit the Qdoba in Seattle airport. For lunch, Qdoba is priced similarly to other airport options (I think base price for a bowl/burrito is around $14?). But for breakfast, they offer a egg, potato and steak-or-chorizo burrito for $9.95 for a regular, or $6.95 for a small. All of the other coffee shops have breakfast burritos for like $13+, and the sit-down places are probably pushing $20. At the qdoba the burrito is put together fresh when you order it (vs. sitting and re-heated from the coffee shops), and you have all the veggie/salsa/sauce options to customize it. And, despite being a fatso as mentioned previously, I've found the small is plenty of food for breakfast (not wanting to eat a lumberjack breakfast minutes before climbing on a plane for 5 hours). It's not the greatest bite of food I've ever had, but both times I've found it very tasty and filling, and then been quite please with myself when I see the other breakfast burrito options for 2X the price around the other places in the airport. This may be only relevant to Seattle/Tacoma residents and visitors, but if you have a Qdoba in your airport may be worth seeing if there's a similar offering.

thanks for the SEA qdoba tip
one thing i appreciate about PDX is they negotiate contracts with their vendors to sell food at the same price as they do at their 'typical' restaurants and not charge airport tax

The Bell is bringing back some old faves as LTOs: Tostada, Meximelt, green sauce burrito and gordita supreme are back 10/31, the caramel apple empanada on 11/21.

A hot empanada was always a top tier FF dessert.

can't wait to see how much they try to charge for a tostada

I think the recommended price was $2.19, with all of these items being under $3.

In your neck of the woods, that probably means a Tostada will be $5.

Great TR first off. But man, Chipotle started as a great 9.95 burrito/bowl. Look what we've become.

Next stop $24.95, and it's comin', baby. I exit.

I want the smothered burrito.

I'm heading to FL next week for a bros blowout weekend and plan on getting some FF. What do I need to get that I can't get up north? In Ponce Inlet region.

better be on the value menu right next to the cheesy bean and rice.

Holy ****, I haven't thought about those in years but you are 100% right, those were the most delicious deep fried sugar bombs.

ugh, I hope like $20+

the last time they brought back a "classic" - mexican pizza - the first few weeks after that I had to sit thru like 78,000 orders of this (like 30 minutes+ wait) before I got my order.

- Publix deli - anything
- the only decent Burger King I have ever been to since the 1990s was in Florida earlier this year
- Wawa altho I'm not sure if they are on the Atlantic side of FL or not....

also, as a fellow FL tourist, some unasked for tips...Flagler Beach and St. Augustine have great beaches without the massive crowds if important...also the old Spanish fort in St. Augustine is a must visit if u r in the area.

Pollo Tropical is pretty good FF Caribbean-type chicken. Their site shows a location in Daytona, just east of the speedway.

I wonder if McDs will offer aggressive offers for QPCs soon

The fact that they haven’t immediately offered extra deals for any menu items is wack as hell.

Their prices have gone up a ton and their portions/food quality have gone way down. it's super hit or miss these days.

This elite quote is from 2009:

I like guacamole. Now, I don’t really love it. They [Chipotle] changed their guacamole from $1.50 to $1.80. I mean, $1.50 is already pretty high.

So they changed it to $1.80, and I’ll never get guac. It’s not about the guac itself, I just didn’t want them to win. -Zack Greinke

Now to be fair at the time he was only making 4 million dollars a year.

It might be time to stay away from fast food onions for a while. Following the emergence of a Escherichia coli outbreak tied to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders and the onions commonly served on them, Burger King, KFC and other chains have pulled onions from their products in select locations. The supplier of McDonalds’ likely tainted onions has also stepped forward and issued a recall of several of its products.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are few things I like as much as a BK cheeburger add onions. I might actually have to go to the friggin' store, buy my own friggin' onions, and friggin' cut them up.

Sin Cebolla FTW!

The stores near the affected areas pulled the QPC off the menu entirely.

I'm not going to FF places now for a WHILE. it's a massive negative freeroll with Ecoli outbreak.

McMuffin gonna use his Air Fryer more now.
