2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
I see, so you're only interested in complaining when Democrats ignore the will of the people. Got it.
I am complaining because people claim to vote for democrats because they are pro democracy, and people here are smart enough to understand this is just false.
I am complaining about the inane "Trump and republicans are a threat to democracy" lines.
The will of the masses is regularly oppressed and disregarded when it's not aligned with the will of the top 5-10%, and that won't change with Harris or with Trump

You've done nothing to demonstrate how not requiring proof of citizenship is a threat to democracy. You have been told of your conflation of Representative Democracy and Direct Democracy yet refuse to accept that reality and continue arguing a straw man. At the same time, you ignore an actual threat to democracy, ie the corruption of politics from campaign finance. In other words, your argument is completely fallacious.
What did Democrats do to harm freedom of speech? Trump was the one that wanted to get rid of free speech protections for internet platforms. All Democrats did was set up a few investigations into misinformation, which has nothing to do with the first amendment.
Did you follow what the government did during COVID with social media? Specificallt with regard to asking them to censor American citizens on their platforms, threatening the platforms in the process of they didn't comply?
Did you follow what Kerry (ex candidate for POTUS of the democratic party and one of the elders of the party) recently said about the first amendment in a very relevant international forum?
Did you follow the whole "cancel culture" phenomenon?

It is a threat to democracy as defined as not doing what super majorities of the population want.
If democracy doesn't mean having processes that make it so that what the people want with huge majorities , and is constitutional, happens, what does it mean? Define it please, and define how that is threatened by Trump
CNN: Chinese hackers targeted Trump and Vance’s phone data
Source:
China is barking up the wrong tree with Trump. There's absolutely nothing they can find on his phone that will dissuade his supporters for voting for him. Like Trump said, he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue in NYC and not lose any voters.
What do the two have to do with each other? And Trump is for eliminating the electoral college as well.
I'm just saying I've heard left-wingers take two opposing sides of the same principle depending on what they're arguing for. "We're not a democracy, we're a republic" when the popular vote favors their opponents and "we're a democracy" when it doesn't.
Trump is wrong about a lot of things, he'd be wrong about that too.
Nah, they're looking for the pics of classified documents he took to show off on the golf course.
Interesting that major newspapers like LA Times and WAPO are no longer officially endorsing candidates. Apparently this started happening a couple years ago (Alden Global Capital).
Still funny reading that people at LAT and WAPO are having hissy fits and quitting over this.
agreed brother

Exactly. If the will of the masses and the elite align, great. But as soon as someone it spouting rhetoric designed to tickle the emotions of (half) of the will of the masses, he must be eliminated using any means necessary. That's the real reason the powers that be are against Trumpian populism--it's the only legitimate threat to their stranglehold on power. Hence why you have vacant psychopathic Machiavellians like the Cheneys endorsing Harris. You'd think this would prick up the ears of astute Democrats but nope!
That said, Trump is a buffoon and just another puppet for a different cadre of elites, so the claim by some that he actually represents the will of disenfranchised Republicans is ludicrous. Just look at his four years in office. He accomplished almost nothing towards their grievances and has rapidly evolved into just another campaigner, and they still love him. Half the country falls for one parlor trick and the other half falls for another, and the show goes on.

In the USA, officials are elected by citizens to make decisions on their behalf. That's what a representative democracy is. If those officials make unpopular decisions then they're voted out of office. Both citizens and elected officials are operating within the confines described in the US Constitution, which defines our Democracy, so claiming it's anti-democratic demonstrates you don't understand how our country works.
Trump said he wanted to terminate the rules in the Constitution after he lost the 2020 election. That's a threat to our Democracy.
Republicans: "Calling tRump a Fascist is inciting violence against him!!!!!!!!!1"
Also Republicans: "DEMOCRATS ARE COMMIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
lol, you guys are so far into the cult that there is absolutely no hope for you....and you will be treated as such.

In reality, officials are selected by "the money" based on their liklihood of winning any particular election, and those officials then pass bills and policy designed to profit their donors and expansion of power. For decades, people naively thought that replacing those officials with other cherry-picked officials would mean an interruption of this distortion, and then they caught on, and then Republicans started to swing towards populism with Ron Paul and it became fully manifested with Trump. When the Democrats stop fretting about tiny, oppressed minorities (a planted distraction) for long enough to actually look around, they will go populist too. They began to do this with Bernie, and we all saw how that went. My overall point is that when populism becomes the only alternative to elitism, democracy of any stripe is already dead and buried.
Are you familiar with what roe v wade's framework was? In this new environment many conservatives list what it basically was as what they support though many don't seem to know it lol That so much of the political landscape has been eaten up with wanting to "change" it--to essentially the same damn thing--for so many years is insane.

Like they are for freedom but only when it applies for them …

i think it's pretty clear that the owners of these institutions are scared of reprisals from Trump. none of the readers are wondering who to vote for. anyone that reads real news is already massively pro democratic(people that read newspapers are something like 70+ points more democratic leaning) so there is no business reason for doing this other than they think Trump will try to take revenge on them if he wins.
but freezepeach right!
Yep. As an aside, complaints about the "spread of disinformation" are nothing but a thinly veiled attack on free speech as well, and with the one exception of "Israel," are almost universally a Dem or left-leaning talking point ("stop killing trans people!"). Anyone with an IQ above double digits knows there is very little information that isn't open to interpretation.
We saw this **** during Covid where you weren't allowed to question one iota of the government response to the pandemic or be at
There is a distinction between a government talking point based on science with COVID and when it’s just a plainly government talking point about a left or right wing policies .
Disinformation is usually against science or facts .

no, the owners of those "institutions" very clearly support trump but don't want to say it

Yes it was free abortion no questions asked up to 22-24 weeks, over that states could regulate.
For reference the fetus weights on avg approx 500 grams at 22 weeks vs 50 at 12 weeks so an order of magnitude of difference.
Any attempt to frame roe as even vaguely similar to a 12 weeks ban is obscene

We have too long a lost of ridiculous candidates losing easy seats because the primary process selected weird people to claim they are surgically picked by money to win. Especially among republicans nowadays, democrats improved their primary game massively recently.

Commies were allies of the USA, fascists were the enemy, so what's exactly your point?
