2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
Yes it was free abortion no questions asked up to 22-24 weeks, over that states could regulate.
For reference the fetus weights on avg approx 500 grams at 22 weeks vs 50 at 12 weeks so an order of magnitude of difference.
Any attempt to frame roe as even vaguely similar to a 12 weeks ban is obscene
It was broken into trimesters(~13wks fwiw not 22-24). Second, states could regulate based on mother's health. Third, states could regulate/ban except when mother's life was at risk.
A hell of a lot of people, including many conservatives, agree with those general guidelines.
personally, I dont think allying with fascists is the gotcha that you think it is
What's gray about giving money to registered voters that sign a pro 1a-2a declaration?
Please be specific about the statute being broken
You can't pay people to register to vote. That's a clear violation of U.S. law. If you could prove that this whole petition thing was a scheme to induce people to register to vote in exchange for cash, it arguably would be a violation of law.
Now I'll ask you a few questions. If we were to dig into Elon's electronic communications, how confident are you that we wouldn't find evidence indicating that his true objective was to pay people to register to vote, with the petition in the middle as a fig leaf? And if you are confident that we wouldn't find such communications, is that because you believe his true objective was to get people to sign a petition, or is it because you don't believe he would have been reckless enough to put his true intentions in writing?
Franco in Spain was an ally. Also what the hell are you talking about have you heard of the Cold War? Might be your most insane statement yet
Spain was not part of the Allies in WWII. Spain was nominally neutral, but definitely favored the Axis powers. That's why Spain wasn't allowed into the UN in the period immediately following the war. You are correct that relations were friendlier by the mid- to late-1950s.
Politico: Freedom Caucus leader endorses radical proposal for North Carolina to hand its electoral votes to Trump
The chair of the conservative House Freedom Caucus says the North Carolina Legislature should consider allocating the state’s presidential electors to Donald Trump even before votes are counted in the swing state.
Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) said Thursday that such a step by North Carolina’s Republican-controlled Legislature “makes a lot of sense” given the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene in the western part of the state. Counties in that region are expected to vote heavily for Trump.
Potential difficulties with voting in the hurricane-damaged area would be a basis for the state Legislature to declare in advance that Trump should win the state’s 16 electoral votes, Harris said at a Republican Party dinner in Maryland’s Talbot County.
“You statistically can go and say, ‘Look, you got disenfranchised in 25 counties. You know what that vote probably would have been,’” Harris said during an exchange with a speaker at the dinner. “Which would be — if I were in the Legislature — enough to go, ‘Yeah, we have to convene the Legislature. We can’t disenfranchise the voters.’”

So just in case the usual Republican strategy of suppressing the vote doesn't work they're proposing just handing Trump the electoral votes without even bothering to count the ballots.

It’s the last part I’m interested in, yes. Luciom is trying to say calling someone a Nazi is more inflammatory than calling someone a communist. But by the definitions of how those terms are used in American politics that’s just not clear to me.

Obviously Nazi has a worse connotation than communist.
yeah, i'm sure he meant that republicans are just tossing out compliments when they call democrats commies.
can we get back to bombing italy now?
lol, where did the nazi's come in to play here? i said that republicans call democrats commies and then lil mussolini said 'yeah but commie are your friends..'
...and then yeah...you guys did predictable things and here we are...

I'd probably agree that Nazi is a worse label for U.S. politics than communist, but it doesn't really matter. If either labels sticks, you are politically non-viable.
I mean ffs the entire Canadian parliament gave a standing ovation to a Nazi like a year ago.

Thinking ideological similarities are responsible for alliances of convenience is the insane thing. We armed Saddam Hussein before invading him, we armed and funded Osama Bin Laden and then he attacked us, we allied with the Soviet Union before the Cold War, and the Bushes funded Hitler and IBM helped in the holocaust. Currently, we're throwing away hundreds of billions so Ukrainians and Russians can die while China (our 3rd biggest trading partner) gets stronger by the day. You can't talk about this **** unless you can think like a criminal, and you better start because you're governed by them.
So this election is over. A new golden age will began with Trump and his super star team.
