2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
You think that most people who are voting for Trump are doing so because they think Biden gave too much of a green light to Netanyahu? I know that is your motivation. But you are representative of only a tiny sliver of Trump voters.
I don't think we have any reason to believe Trump would have given less maneuvering space to Bibi tbh.
Trump very clearly treated ukraine and Israel differently, The "victors" consider both situations as something where american intervention is causing excess deaths.
Trump kinda agrees with them (or anyway, is very willing to act in a way that will end the war, leaving Putin with more land than he should have), while he absolutely doesn't for Israel.
But what if it's stochastically orthogonal?
Fwiw I just voted in an American election for the first time.
No, I've voted in Canada many times.
I understand that Biden's immigration policy will remove 100s of thousands of legal immigrants from the country. I also understand that Democratic sycophants dont care at all about these people and only use them to attack Trump while supporting the exact evil **** that Trump does. in this case you know, kicking people out of the country for no real reason.
They’re not being deported yet they’re being put on notice to find other programs.

WASHINGTON, Oct 4 (Reuters) - The Biden administration will not renew a temporary humanitarian entry program for hundreds of thousands of migrants with U.S. sponsors who arrived in recent years, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said on Friday.
Some 530,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela have entered the U.S. by air since October 2022 and received two-year grants under the "parole" program that will begin to expire in coming weeks.
However, many of those migrants could remain in the country under other programs.
The parole program allows migrants with existing U.S. sponsors to enter the country for humanitarian reasons or if their entry is deemed a significant public benefit. It will continue to accept new applications from those abroad.
U.S. President Joe Biden's administration launched the parole program as a way to provide migrants avenues to enter legally and decrease illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border. Record numbers of migrants were caught crossing illegally during Biden's presidency but crossings have plummeted in recent months as Biden rolled out new border restrictions.
Immigration is a top voter issue in the Nov. 5 election that will pit Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris against Republican Donald Trump, who has criticized the parole program.
The decision not to renew the parole program for the four nationalities follows the plan outlined by DHS when the program was launched, spokesperson Naree Ketudat said in a statement.
Migrants without permission to remain in U.S. "will need to depart the United States prior to the expiration of their authorized parole period or may be placed in removal proceedings," Ketudat said.
Other parole programs for Ukrainians and Afghans have been extended.
Most of the four nationalities allowed entry under the so-called CHNV parole program have avenues to stay in the U.S.
Many Cubans are eligible for permanent residence and eventual citizenship under the 1966 Cuban Adjustment Act.
Most Haitians and Venezuelans in the U.S. are eligible for Temporary Protected Status, which grants them deportation relief and work permits.
But brown people getting deported in the US gets you excited because it gives you a chance to circlejerk with other lefties about how much more leftist you are than people voting for democrat. Like other Trump supporters you are a low information voter.
Can any native english speaker tell me if this expression is normal, is it an american expression only, or does it sound like a 5 year old would talk?
This sound really weird to me but I might be off here.
It's a little grandiose. Something like "the most powerful country ever" probably a bit more normal but it's still fine. Compare:
The best ice cream ever
The best ice cream in the history of the world
For countries, yes, because they are the only one in the history of the world (for now) that can claim that...
No country has ever being more powerful than the USA currently are, ever. In gdp terms, in military terms, in soft culture influence terms, in any term you can decide to use to gauge power worldwide.
British people might have used some similar expressions before losing their colonies in the past.
This gave me a good chuckle. Seems about right to me.
No, I didn't realize that. Are they close enough genetically that you care about them? (what's your cutoff for that?) Do they care if Haitians are deported?
yes my dad is an American citizen.
my borderline cutoff is second cousin.
I don't care what my dad thinks is best, I have my opinion on that.

So you care about whether Haitians are deported in the USA because your dad is an American citizen, but you don't care how he feels about it? If he wants citizenship for all Haitian asylum seekers in the USA, you want them deported...because your dad is an American citizen? Is that right?
I don’t like either party right now.
My Republicans have forgotten the beauty of the
free market, driven up deficits, and rejected election results.
rejecting the results of an election is as un-American as it gets.
To someone like me who talks to people all over the world and still knows America is the
shining city on a hill, calling America a trash can for the world is so unpatriotic, it makes me furious.
And I will always be an American before I am a Republican.
That’s why, this week, I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
Because if you don't care what your dad thinks, it seems likely that it's irrelevant that you have family living in the USA (though you are avoiding saying that...maybe your US Citizen dad doesn't live here).
So you care about whether Haitians are deported in the USA because your dad is an American citizen, but you don't care how he feels about it? If he wants citizenship for all Haitian asylum seekers in the USA, you want them deported...because your dad is an American citizen? Is that right?
not only Haitians. all temporary unfiltered immigrants.
i care about the general idea that the most important country culturally in the west stops taking in people without a quality filter.
both because that's better for the USA, and also because when the USA sneezes we get the cold so literally everything you do has direct repercussions on what the EU does 5-10-20 years from now.
anything that signals the west isn't open to unfiltered immigration anymore is a massive improvement for European countries

Maybe it'll mean more immigration into Europe if USA closes off or expels people. I sure hope so.
