SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

I can think of 2 f6's. Are you talking about the less obvious but more direct one?

This helped a lot

I doubt it's anything about baseball. That would be a weirdly specific shadowfax.

"feller" means nothing to me. It sounds like something cowboys would say to each other in 1950s/60s westerns.

Feller to me is just another way of saying fellow.

Lumberjack seems decent.

Great job!

Thanks! I'm pretty sure I get all the credit on this one.

Nice work, bolt!

Nice job

H7 hatchet

Hatchet!

Round 3:

Cards used: 2
Guessers: ibd/zeus

The Board:

IH | RG | C | S | A | T | DL

The target word:
I've pmed the word to ervin, bolt, d1

So L5 and the variations, L3 a solid troll confirmer perhaps

G5 is great if we get there

d4, t5 are confirmers if they think of the word

Yea I'm actually having trouble figuring out how to land on our target

H7 is more of a confirmer and G5 is the target. But H7 might work nonetheless.

L4 is solid with all of the confirmers we have. Only problem is it doesn't open the G tile if they miss it.

No clue what L4 is but I think you should go ahead and bold it and let them use confirmers

I know what it is and could be dangerous...then again it doesn't go with much and hopefully with confirmers it gets them there

Eh go for it imo

There's also a d3(we would clue d6) that really narrows them down to a couple words but then it's a question of if they pick the right one

I'll reiterate that G5 is the key. L3 isn't a troll confirmer in my opinion but is a shadowfax worth thinking about.

lava

Hmm

Gonna need to chew on this. Not sure why they went with L instead of H since they all insist that G is the key.

L4 wasnt obvious apparently

lava

Chocolate lava cake
Lava = firey molten rock spew from volcano

Anything we're missing?

Its a metamorphic rock

Thing is its mildly hard to think of a single word that connects back to lava where you wouldnt clue something else more obvious OR where lava isnt an obvious answerr

E.g. if its volcano they snap l4

Yeah I mean, this isn’t going to be volcano or magma or eruption or something.

Any thoughts on what g5 or l3 could be? The only l3 coming to mind at the moment that could relate to lava is lei, which takes me to the Hawaiian islands (which are volcanic).

I guess there’s also lox, which is smoked salmon and “lava” is a common type of sushi roll, but this seems like waaaaay too much of a stretch. H7 hamachi works tho, but now I’m just forcing ****. And still have nfi what g5 could be. Too bad we won’t be clued g5 next turn!

Hmmm do they do place names? Ive no idea

Ive not heard of lava sushi

Honolulu for anything hawaiian (or island if its lava = volacinc island)

Maybe go sushi roll to keep moving it?

Cant think of any g's

Yeah it’s not Hawaii because of no Honolulu, luau, etc. L3 could be Loa, but again there's not a chance this could be volcano because Nich didn’t even know what l4 was.

Sushi is a terrible guess and not one I’m making. I’ll keep thinking today and if nothing additional comes to us we can bold something more in the volcanic realm.

G5 is bothering me.
