People will vote for a candidate who eats babies if they think it'll be good for the economy.

some people yes, maybe Americans more than others.

it's not like it was ever a secret that "it's the economy!"

by jalfrezi k

People just wanted to be unburdened from what has been.

well guess those happy people will have a major surprise with trump if they think it was bad under biden with inflation lol.
the bonds are getting clubber this premarket yikes ....

The 60% tariff on China imports and 100% on cars made in Mexico should solve inflation.

by pocket_zeros k

Agreed. "Immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country" is a much better joke.

Did he say exactly that, or did he say "they are poisoning the blood of our country"?

Use this in the following days to monitor inflation expectations from market data

Then we'll see what the opinion is about Trump/republicans and in aggregate their effect on inflation.

Well, this is all a shower of ****.

We're already living with the inflation from the previous tariffs that Trump passed and Biden kept. I'm sure passing more tariffs will fix that.

The standard biological definition of sex is males are designed to produce small, mobile gametes (sperm) and females to produce large immobile gametes (Ova).

Hence why sex is binary.

Honestly if the left stopped trying to argue against basic science, they find it much easier to win elections.

I wont argue the semantics with you as long as you're committed to your definition

i.e if one day (I expect witin the next generation or so) we have a womb transplant leading to a pregnancy you agree that it would be a pregnant man.

And how much do you think CPI would have been without those bipartisan tariffs?

It's a shower of love akshually

USA#1 might not be dead after all, Trump will probably keep the US's boot on Europe's neck but at least the party of hipocrisy suffered a convincing beatdown. 👍

Hard to say with precision. Chinese imports are credited with reducing CPI by 100+ bps in the decade prior to our new protectionist policies.

Erm, you know, the whole Trump winning thing.

Ok and 200-220 billions collected in Trump-Biden tariffs over 8 years amount to what, 0.1% of CPI per year? maybe less?

How much did inflation increase because of Obama and Biden EPA admin regulations? Would you agree that even if immoral, ending the Ukraine war allowing Putin to keep land is deflationary?

As for tariffs IF Trump uses that as a credible threat toward foreign countries to make them bend their knee to american interest, and so puts them into place then strongarms China and others into doing stuff that is good for american interests (as defined by republican priorities ofc), and then removes them, would you guys admit it was a genius strategy?

The biggest contributor to inflation from tariffs is not always the direct cost on the targeted imports but instead their effect on prices from domestic competitors to those imports.

Inhibiting competition never works.

Having an empire does work to improve the quality of life of citizens living in the dominant part of the empire though

Durably-dominant economies are built on productivity gains, not artificial restraints to competition.

I wish that was true but wholesale theft and wage slavery are pretty effective too.

Durably-dominant economies are built on productivity gains, not artificial restraints to competition.

The restraints to competition would be used to achieve other targets that's the idea (and a big if).

Example, you force China to do x y z that benefits the american economy with the threat of tariffs.

What could x y z be? pay more for trade routes to be secure. Stop trading with Russia and our other enemies. Many things are possible. We could even find a deal with China to , say, take control of the middle east togheter.

I do agree broadly with the idea that tariffs in place are bad, like war is bad in a vacuum, but like war, tariffs as a weapon to achieve geopolitics interests that materially benefit the population can work.

Very dubious about Trump implementation of that ofc, that's why i capitalized the IF

The only benefit from the tariffs was to coerce American companies to move their overseas production from China to other Asian countries. That will weaken China, which is good for the USA from a geopolitical perspective. But it does nothing to help our economy.

It increases resilience which decreases the magnitude of shocks to the supply chain , that's a material benefit to the economy.
