2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
the claim, again, is that teachers skewed dramatically left.
you might opine that's fine, good for you.
I don't, but it doesn't matter.
still true that teachers skew dramatically to the left compared to their customers (parents)
I’m not speaking to you cuz I know you don’t care and I’m most assuredly not down for your ‘intellectual’ gotchas today but a general point to make:
I voted yes on 6 cuz it seems obvious but california is absolutely turning on anything that favors anything lax on criminals for reasons I can’t fault
Voted yes on prop 36 which completely undid the prop passed less than 20 years ago that made what are now felonies petty crimes. London Breed got tossed, Gascon got tossed, eventually you have enough smash and grabs that no amount of aggressively progressive standpoints on crime are going to go unpunished. I myself have had my house broken into with a laptop, my credit cards and a reasonable amount of cash stolen and my car broken into with my work laptop (hidden from sight) stolen, both times by transients that populate the city and both times having the police tell me to my face ‘ya we won’t be able to do anything about this for you’ even though I had ring footage of exactly who did it in both instances
Which, of course, is in part what led to trumpism in the first place. An overcorrection of what happens when you’re inundated with hyperwoke bullshit that is fine if you believe it but resented if you make that your singular message and ultimately rejected it you try to cram it down everyone’s throats
The morning after the election I got a news alert that for the first time 2 black women will be in the senate and all I can think is WELL THIS WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT THEN WASNT IT
I mean personally if I got sent to jail, living in the governor’s mansion in exchange for work would probably be a dream gig.
Btw I’m pretty sure the bad part of slavery was being considered property and having no rights, not being forced to work. If being forced to work is slavery then we’re all slaves in some respect.

That true of tech, medicine, law pretty much every business.

that's actually what the communist think.
but we aren't all forced to work for long, if you are good and/or lucky and/or live with modest expenses you can retire early

I don't know about K-12, but it's certainly true for college and university professors. Not even disputable.

not quite, wage slavery is an extension of a theory of value that states all value comes from labor. which is wrong because value actually probably is just a subjective attribution (what one is willing to pay). and profit comes from taking risks, not from underpaying your workers. your workers pay in a vacuum is a function of whatever you think the job is worth and whatever they think is worth working for.
of course then we have to consider that “work or starve” aspect of it and apportion worker protections based off of that stipulation. and it’s the “work or starve” aspect I’m concerned with, not the surplus value aspect of it.
Man I totally forgot about that movie. Now we have a million rebels with podcasts that can reach the entire country and the only discernable influence coming out of all of it is conservative, Joe Rogan Ben Shapiro et al. What a sad commentary on the Left.
It pains me that no one ever bothers to correct the routine conflation of fascism with authoritarianism. They are not one and the same.
I usually just call trump a wannabe authoritarian myself. I may have said he has fascistic tendencies as well.
That quoted comment I was being facetious though.

The psychology and dynamics of social media changed everything. Kids can't stumble across something and form an emotional connection without everyone else's opinion being thrown in their face.
So if you believe the 2020 vote counts how do you account for the large number of people who mysteriously just disappeared between 2020 and 2024.
Very strange.
Anybody re-watch this video recently and anything else Bill Maher posted -
Why wasn't Maher given more airtime on the view?
Shame they didn't ask you or Rogan to be expert witnesses in the 62 cases they lost, Brian. Would have been slam-dunks!
Maybe try and get yourself involved in the new 100+ ones they filed pre-election? Not much noise about them now though...weird

Very strange.
So, in 2020 about 155,000,000 votes were cast. In 2020, so far about 144,000,000 votes have been counted
There are still about 10-15,000,000 votes to count.
Which is about how many listens this Joe Rogan guy gets per episode to say absolutely ******ed **** and never correct himself
I dunno. I just see more and more evidence that Republicans wont be beating the allegations of generally being bigoted racist uninformed Neanderthals
Seems even Negraneu wanted to play both sides leading up to the election then literally blamed Trans people for Dems losing

Couldn’t just be Biden voters who were disenchanted with the Dems but wouldn’t vote for Trump…
That’s much more reasonable explanation than the Dems rigged it in 2020 and not now, when they had even greater reason to.
We don't have to speculate. ~59% of California is in meaning there will be another 8 million votes or so just there.
