Trump 2nd term prediction thread
So, looks like Trump not only smashed the electoral college, but is looking on track to win the popular vote, which seems to be an unexpected turn of events, but a clear sign of the current temperature in the country and perhaps the wider world.
Would be interested to hear views on how his 2nd term will pan out from both sides of the aisle - major happenings, what he's going to get done, what he's not going to get done, the impact of his election on the current conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, whether his popularity will remain the same, wane, or increase, etc.
A bit of an anemic OP, I know, just interested to hear people's thoughts now that the election uncertainty is over.
Btw republicans are ALREADY FIGHTING among themselves about the senate majority election.
MAGA is ALREADY crazy about the idea that there will be a secret vote and that any senator is thinking of voting for someone who isn't the name Trump made (Scott).
Btw deportation aren't obviously inflationary, the pressure on housing easing is very deflationary
Tariffs are the only obviously inflationary part of his program but it isn't obvious all the rest combined will matter less than the tariffs.
My prediction: trump will cause inflation to spike, definitely by 1 year from now, and probably much sooner.
For the illiterate, I'll put it in caps for you:
THIS IS JUST MY PREDICTION AND I MIGHT BE WRONG
Don't worry, you can still say whatever you want about me since I have you blocked and don't care what you think.
clown
If trump is actually able to implement mass tariffs and deportations when unemployment is at 3%) I think there’s no doubt inflation will be high. But he was pretty incompetent at implement major things last time. Family separations was such a good policy for them last time because being incompetent made it more effective.
The mass deportations will hopefully became trumps wall of 2016 that never actually happens.
As unemployment continues to rise, and possible declines in output due to large scale tariffs, Trump may become keen on the idea of finding cheap labor to stay competitive. But I don't even think he's got that level of wherewithal now, if he ever.

We won & now have a once-in-a-century opportunity to radically downsize the size, scope, and mission of the federal government. And the top obstacle to our success won’t even be the Democrats.

Pretty clear fight for the soul of the republican party in the future, between the new entrants (And a few historically libertarian-leaning republicans) libertarian techbros, and the evangelic populist theocratic side of the party.
Hope is an extremely strict approach to illegal immigration will satisfy the theocrats at least for a while , and the techbros can start destroying the regulatory welfare state

Soaring share prices for private prison companies are always a sign of a healthy society. 🙄
Soaring share prices for private prison companies are always a sign of a healthy society. 🙄
Did they grow more than cryptos, banks and other regular stuff?
That’s how they work was watching Morning Joe and he was talking about the deficits and how Trump and Bush raised it but no mention of Biden or Obama
Same as Carr, in the federal communication commission, the guy who opposes retaliatory actions against Musk starlink, was nominated by democrats originally to the role (and re confirmed by republicans)
Share prices for the two largest private prison companies have increased by 80% in the last five days. Do you think that crypto or equity markets generally have increased by anything close to 80% in the last five days?
No but crypto specific companies that gain from better regulation did, like Coinbase.
Anyway I get what you mean but you are mistaken imho.
It would be baddish if private prisons were gaining under the assumption of jailing more citizens.
But given the rationale is that they are going to be contracted to help with the deportation effort, you should be elated because the alternative is hiring more federal employees to do the same.
And at least when/if democrats gain power you can simply refuse to keep the contract going with the private prison if you want to stop deporting illegals.
While if you have to fire a ton of federal employees it could be harder especially if democrats disagree with unitary theory
I think with his climate-change denying Trump will inspire a new type of eco-terrorism.
