these motivations you’re assigning sound mutually exclusive to me. I think there is truth about him being corrupt but it’s hard to be extremely corrupt and a true believer at the same time.

There are tens of thousands of people who licked trump ass and hundreds of jobs to fill, you want to troll here but even if the number one reason for trump to appoint someone was that (and in different wording IE "complete loyalty" it probably is) that still wouldn't justify the pick even within a model of trump mind.
It's absolutely reasonable for Trump to exclusively pick people who showed unfettered loyalty to him.

This is a long-term conflict. Having the Dems think they can be pro-Israel with impunity, which would assuredly be the case if they had won, is vastly worse for the Palestinian cause than having Huckabee over whoever Biden's ambassador is.
