SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread
In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.
Sign up with /in below if you want to play.
In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).
2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.
The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).
We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"
Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.
The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.
Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.
Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words
We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)
I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

Well if you don't know any other Warners, there's not really much point prolonging this.
Wanna just guess film studio and move onto the next clue?
Sure.
film studio
Close
Just need to go b7 to get them in right domain and we can salvage this
Yea in terms of far or close this is actually a guess that I think is fair to label "close" or "not too far" or like "75%+ish"
I still haven't figured out the B word but I think they can get there, they'd probably get there if just offered a 2nd guess with our comments imo
B7 is a lock imo
B9 is good but not in this scenario
B9 also hits another word HARD
Just go with it, Nich
Burbank
It's probably Hollywood?
But honestly, saying WB is a shafowfax is one of the most wtf things I've seen in this thread.
I like Hollywood. A7 could be Anaheim. V4 could be Vine. I'm concerned that I can't come up with O6 or B9.
Hi there hello, room for one more next game?
Will give me plenty of time to read the rules etc cos the past few pages are just gibberish to me 😃
Eh, just gonna move this along.
Hollywood
Correctamundo
I have no idea if the w6 Nich and DZ were thinking of was Warner, but I agree that it’s not a shadowfax at all.
Kinda annoying because if that shadowfax convo never happened, I'm sure we could've got that. I didn't even try to figure out the confirmers because I was so sure it couldn't be WB. Also think it was kinda undersold how good of a clue Oscars was.
And if Solomon was clued last turn, you could've clued Tinstletown this turn, and both these rounds would've been over in about 5 seconds lol.
B7 is okay, I kind of like B9 more if we can prime it well enough with confirmers.
O6 —> B9 is the way imo
O6 and a7 are not close to being the same level of clue. O6 is way better.
V4 is fine and the type of confirmer I think makes B9 a winner over B7.
I tried!
1. I would never think Warner is a shadowfax or that non-Americans wouldn't know Warner Brothers
2. I would never go Warner over WB
3. I would never say this about Warner: "W6 is the one shot chance BUT if they don't know it then we will take 3 turns to get this"
d. My W6 was Wilcox, who built and founded Hollywood; that's why I said I wasn't sure that y'all would know it; Wilcox is pretty esoteric AFAIK but is a 1-shot if you know it
Ya'll got the others; act/acting/actor/actress, oscars, boulevard, Vine
but Boulevard hits Sunset Boulevard after WB/film studio clue, while Burbank gets you to a city, so Hollywood
also considered Bowl for Hollywood Bowl, but didn't see a reason for that
I thought B7 was Beverly. Completely forgot Burbank existed.
Oscars was also my line to take, but everyone knowing Wilcox (I thought) made me think maybe we should go for the 1-shot...but it was Warner all along lol
funny thing is Burbank is actually where Warner Brothers studio lot is, not Hollywood
I lived in Burbank for 1.5 years and it's right next door to Hollywood so of course it was on my mind
And if Solomon was clued last turn, you could've clued Tinstletown this turn, and both these rounds would've been over in about 5 seconds lol.
I know s9 and don’t love it for this reason. Tho we’ve discussed enough solid clues and confirmers that maybe it’d be fine. On its own, it’s not nearly as good a clue as something like S7.
I tried!
Wilcox is def a shadowfax, and I never would've got that.
I really didn't think you would think WB was a shadowfax for non-Americans, but ervin kinda confirmed that it was and he gave the clue, so shrug.
