Trump 2nd term prediction thread
So, looks like Trump not only smashed the electoral college, but is looking on track to win the popular vote, which seems to be an unexpected turn of events, but a clear sign of the current temperature in the country and perhaps the wider world.
Would be interested to hear views on how his 2nd term will pan out from both sides of the aisle - major happenings, what he's going to get done, what he's not going to get done, the impact of his election on the current conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, whether his popularity will remain the same, wane, or increase, etc.
A bit of an anemic OP, I know, just interested to hear people's thoughts now that the election uncertainty is over.
Chez, there is no general closed form solution to the perimeter of an ellipse. It's an integral which belongs to a family creatively called "elliptic integrals". It can be converted to an infinite sum.
An ellipse where the foci coincide is sometimes called a "circle". Its perimeter is 2pi*r, where r is the semimajor axis and pi is a constant equaling approximately 3.14 in base 10.
You're a single issue voter. Your issue is "bananas should be outlawed."
Republicans have always been 100% pro banana and will never listen to you no matter what. Democrats are also pro banana, but there are some exceptions and an anti-banana moment among potential democratic voters.
The Democrats run a candidate who is 100% pro banana, just as much of as any Republican. A politician can't be any more pro-banana than this person.
It's pretty rational to withhold your vote. If you create a co
great post
No but as you ask. There was a question on finding the index (is that the right word) of a large (8*8) matrix. You do it with eigenthingies and iirc the answer was 6
Afterwards in the pub there was some postmortem dispute as to the answer. I took out some paper and just repeatedly multiplied the matrix by itself - fast and without any pauses. Proved it was 6
Turned round and they were all looking on in disbelief. I hadn't even realised it was odd.
Did I get some that night! (No)
You remind me of an ex I had. Everything with her had to have a reason. Why don't I like rice? I had to give specific reasons, as in, combinations of flavours that made me dislike it. If I couldn't articulate my reasoning, it was invalid. "Taste" had to be justified. I don't ****ing know, I just don't like the stuff.
She was also heavily into the Meyers-Briggs stuff. Like, she would come home from work and say "my new boss is INTP". Then 2 days later - "I've revised it, he is ENTP". And like this
ouch

Ah, the igon values. Gotcha.
Great except that almost no one is a single issue voter. To take an extreme hypothetical, let's say that you tell everyone that your one issue is I/P. You think that the U.S. should withdraw all support to Israel and actively threaten Israel if it does not agree to an immediate cease fire.
But the candidates from Party A and Party B pledge to continue supporting Israel. There is effectively no difference between the candidates on I/P. But the candidates do differ a lot on education. Party A's candidate more or less favors the status quo on education. Party B's candidate wants to abolish STEM instruction in schools. In fact, he wants to make it a criminal act to teach math or science to minor children. In short, Party B's candidate is truly insane when it comes to education.
Are you still a single-issue voter? Almost certainly not unless you also are insane. My point is that single-issue voters are single-issue voters until they are not. True single-issue voters are rare, rare birds.
In case anyone ever wondered why good lawyers make $500+ an hour. I fancy myself as a bit of a wordsmith, right? I could spin a yarn if needed. This is me making a point:
I mean, if we bring this back to the real world, this is kind of where you went wrong by having a mental age of 6. And I don't mean coz bananas. I mean coz every single "single issue voter" is a bit of a moron.
This is Rococo making the identical point:

I mean, it's not even a comparison. Not even close. If I were in court, I know whom I'd want delivering my closing, and it's not me.
Roc - still not sucking you off, stop PMing me please.
It was worth a try, but then I remembered you are on some sort of no-fly list. And I don't feel like buying an international plane ticket.
Wow man, George said our countries were "special friends" and now you're all like "international" like we didn't go steal some oil together or something.
trump: "inflation under biden/harris was bad, the WORST"
also trump: "my first order of business will be 35% tariffs on imports"
hard to see how his 2nd term will be any different from biff's reign of hill valley in the part II timeline. stay safe lorraine

It isn't always easy to tell the difference between and introvert vs an extrovert or whether someone is perceiving or judging. The inner two letters are a lot easier.

I used that as an example. It was actually the P and J she kept switching at the end. That's a lot more subtle. And there was also an "X" involved, increasing the number of possible combos. I changed the I to an E to make my point.
And to your point - no - the I to E or vice versa iss the most blatant one you can change.

i know quite a few people for whom palestine/israel was the only issue this election
But only because they were convinced the 2 parties are very similar on most other issues as well.
If say Trump had campaigned credibly to put the death penalty for every violent federal crime, or to fully abolish medicaid&medicare, they would have voted democrats.
If I was a big supporter of netanyahu then I would definitey vote trump (assuming i had a vote).
In any case, the idea that the candidates are the same because they both pledge support is bizarre

JFC, chez, did you really think that was the point of my hypothetical was to test the extent to which we can believe pledges by candidates? If it makes you feel better, replace pledge with whatever words or behavior eliminate doubt that the candidates are effectively identical re I/P.
It's unlikely such a thing exists in the view of a single issue voter
But sure there would then be other issues. It doesn't mean thise issues aren't totally dominated by the single issue.
If you're saying that d8ngle issue means having no view at all on anything else then have JFC back.

I suspect that a lot of people who claim to be single issue voters in fact are not single issue voters. Also, FWIW, I'm not sure that I ever have encountered a person in real life who claimed to be a single issue voter.

I did meet some older Americans who were single issue abortion voters, in the sense that they always looked first at that to vote (that was when both democrats and republicans had both pro choice and pro life options sometimes), above everything else all the times, at least according to them.
And they would not vote for a position if both candidates were pro choice and only look at the rest of the candidates were both pro life.

That's another issue. Maybe you take it too literally but there are definitely people in the uk who decided their vote just on Gaza. They still cared deeply about other issues, it's just that Gaza dominated everything else
Or their non-vote.
Not voting because of an issue counts. But many found a candidate
