Prairiebreeze’s Cannonball (Hit and) Run III – December 1-5, 2024

Prairiebreeze’s Cannonball (Hit and) Run III – December 1-5, 2024

Welcome to Prairiebreeze’s Cannonball (Hit and) Run III.

Cannonball Run III never actually had that title. It was originally Cannonball Fever, but if you google either of those titles, you discover that it ended up with the title Speed Rush.
If you thought Cannonball Run II was bad. The third edition was worse. If you look at the five reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (0%). Among the reviews:

“This is a movie that lasts 95 minutes and contains one (1) laugh. To save you the admission price, here is the joke: Dickie Smothers: “We’ve got to go to the Dulles airport.” Tommy Smothers: “What are we going to Fresno for?” Dickie: “What makes you think we’re going to Fresno?” Tommy: “Well, you said the dullest airport, didn’t you?”

“The third Cannonball Run film is a mind-numbingly abysmal, cheapo Canadian production starring John Candy and a bunch of C and D listers. Might make a good answer to a trivia question, but this little-known sequel is truly pathetic.”

Hey, I’m Canadian damnit!

Perhaps the most ironic part of this series is that I hate car racing. I really do. I think what F1 has done do LV each year is complete crap. Last year’s TR didn’t talk about it much, but F1 prep last year made getting up and down the strip a giant pain in the ass. Hence, we hit Vegas after F1 and the clown show clears out. If the trees are back at Bellagio, great. But there’s trees everywhere else on this planet. Only one Strip.

Another Trip, Another Dream. And this will NOT be that pathetic. I hope.

Agenda:
December 1 – travel day including a direct flight! LFG! Land at about 17:00, get a decent meal. Figure out where to jam in a short session. Bellagio & Horseshoe would be at/near the top of the list right now.
December 2 – Have a buddy arriving a few hours before MNF – Broncos/Browns. Blech. MGM Grand to start the day, then work our way north on the strip.
December 3 – Wynn/Encore - Event #1 at the WPT - $600 Limit O8 at 11am.
December 4 – Resorts World. Apparently Rodeo World 2024 rolls into town and starts on the 5th? Yee Haw! Bring me some fish riding in on those horses!
December 5 – we will see, travel home (flight out is at 13:00)

Starting Bankroll: $5,200

Home base for this trip: Flamingo (we pick the least expensive place that isn’t an unreasonable trek – but holy crap are hotel rates higher this year – I booked months ago and they’re still double what I paid to stay at Horseshoe last year.) Stop pricing people out of going, LV. Bitcoin ain't going up forever.

Main goals:
WPT: Play an event. Looks like the $600 Limit O8.
Eat better. Specifically, dinners – those were a huge failure last year. Packing more stuff for in between meals AND will have spots scoped even better than last time.
Register for cash games online where possible – and it looks more possible this year - welcome to the 21st century, poker rooms. Play bigger. Less 1/3, more 2/5. Get out of crappy games faster. Actually do some hitting and running. We didn’t get many hits last year.
Will we ever get to Freemont and visit Circa or the Nugget?
Will the Hero finally get himself a Hendon Mob entry? (this is +1200 right now, according to my "friend")
Will Hero's friend abduct him towards Spearmint Rhino? (he says this is +150 right now)
Will there be another knock on my door at 3am? (Oh, god please no. Refer to Cannonball Run I for that story.)

Many questions. Let’s get after it and find out the answers together!

FIRST!

Have fun and GOOD LUCK!!

Everyone says the games are great when the rodeo is in town.

If you see a guy in a cowboy hat, he didn't come here to fold.

Subbing. Hope to run into you in Vegas! Run good 😉

Maybe I'll make Dec. 4 my Resorts World day. OMG, and we are staying at the Hilton Grand behind the Flamingo!

GL my man, 5 dimes not a bad roll for 4-5 days trip. Hope you treat yourself with some good food/drinks, and hope you win some monies at the tables, lets go Praire.

Always in for a pb TR! Safe travels, looking forward to it.

Scored this footage of Prairie and his buddy checking into LV:

Orleans is also big on the rodeo thing. They might have some events in their arena.

Hendon Mob, easiest way to get an entry is to cash in a WSOP Daily Deepstack. Right behind is to cash in a Circuit event. There's a Circuit event at Horseshoe on Dec 2.

Get to the Rio, sign up for a players card, and run a hundo through a slot machine. You'll get 4 or 5 days comped. Probably.

Spearmint Rhino? Peppermint Hippo puts it to shame. That's what I heard anyway.

A $250 Circuit Turbo you say? I was unaware... maybe we (almost) max late reg that bad boy and see if we can't spin it up. Interesting...

Whoa! I stand corrected. All this Hendon Mob talk got me to thinking about my spot in their database, so I took a look. My entries are very unimpressive, so I don't spend a lot of time looking at it. But just now I saw an entry for the Wynn event I cashed in a couple months ago. That was just a $200 daily, so apparently Hendon Mob has lowered their standards.

Trust me, I'm a crappy player. I sure as hell don't play 2/5 cash. So you probably just need some luck, not Rampage level luck, and you have a good shot at making it.

GOGOGO OP! GL!

I believe South Point, Aria, Wynn, and Resorts World all post their daily tournament results to Hendon Mob.

Anything you cash at the Venetian will also show up there. They run a $200 bounty most nights, which can be a fun one to play.

That being said, Wynn WPT events will be great to play in their big convention space, and a more unique experience than a standard daily.

Enjoy the trip!

I didn't know what Hendon Mob was, but I am listed 😉 Not very impressive stats, but at least I'm there.

yeah I have a few Henson Mob hits for even the $60 daily at South Point

Mine was a cash WSOP PLO circuit event at Cherokee. I hope to add to it!

Last time I looked, my Hendon Mob entry was for an unimpressive, single cash at an Aria daily quite a few years ago.

Hendon Mob is fun to look at, but will never be an 100% representation of someone's results. Here in Europe, I strongly doubt that any casino is posting daily tournament results on there. While in the US you can get an entry for cashing dailes in Vegas and other places.

Edit: Some casinos in UK might be posting results, as I have one score from Manchester, England for $160 USD on my Hendon Mob many years ago.

Anyway, I digress. Good luck in the chase for a Hendon Mob score to OP!

My first entry was a Circuit event in Tahoe. And I also apparently cashed this past spring at the Horseshoe Circuit. It was so unimpressive I forgot about it.

i was in vegas F1 weekend but not for F1. wife's work friend wanted to celebrate her bday so her and her husband, me and my wife and another couple all met up there. i was granted 1 night to go play cards that was designated "girls night".

I gotta say poker in vegas was less fun than i had hoped. i started at a 1/3 table that played like a 1/2 but i was on vacation, and i was craving something THICKER. Somethin with a lil more preflop 3betting. Some ch/raising on the river as a pure bluff. i wanted a ****ing challenge so i moved up to where they respect my raises so i could, in classic 2p2 parlance: take maney, the f do.

quick note: stayed at the luxor. the luxor is ****ing awful. the wifi didnt work. the tv projected an image that looked worse than some old CRT screen circa 1991 and we had booked a King but instead got 2 queens and a shrug emoji about where teh **** our reserved king size room was. luckily though, it was free except for the resort fee cuz of credit card points.

But enough poker and such - I came in here to talk about what a ****ing punch in the dick getting around vegas was that weekend. jesus christ. every uber ride was $40 dollars+, every restauraunt had a 2hr wait. all i wanted was some gdamn buffet and bad beat - i didnt get none at all.

however PRO TIP: fogo de chao was/is runnin a special $40 all you can eat from select items which included the best cut of meat (picanha) and that runs maybe til the end of the year? google search "best of brazil fogo" easily the best value dinner i had. and they have a sort of buffet so maybe not such a bad beat after all.

if you like steak and a good deal see if Fogo still running that special.

re: hendon mob - i'm 112,657th on the USA all time money list. hurrah.

The Orleans Winter Open series is also going on. They also report results to Hendon Mob.

Run good, prairiebreeze and javanewt.

Well we’ve had some fun getting to this point.

It took two trips on 2 separate days to withdraw the roll for this trip LMAO.

We had 3” of snow last night bringing the total so far this fall to just under 20”. Most snow we’ve had on December 1 in the 15 years I’ve been living here.

So we had to bust out the snow blower. Cue the run bad.

While out snow blowing, I lost my footing and fell onto the blower handle, banging my elbow and my ribs on the right side.

We are in pain. Forearm which hit the bar has a nice little lump in it just below the elbow but the rib cage is VERY tender and certain breaths and certain postures are very uncomfortable.

But we are Canadian damnit so we get the driveway done and get after it. Got packed, got dropped off at the airport and clear security.

Watching football on the iPad while we wait. Photos to come. Let’s get this.

And as soon as I hit send on the above post

Ugh.
