First I'll limit my choices to underrated/forgotten ones from the 60s and 70s:
Barnaby Jones

As I opened this thread I wasn't expecting anyone to remember this classic.

Also diebitter posted some great ones too.

But there's also this...

UH OH, Chango!

I had a disturbing childhood...

Real, pure Yacht Rock.

I was waiting for this one.

Not TV, but the theme of the late, great John Peel radio show.

Like this. 1984 was one hell of a December.

I must have missed Dragnet somewhere upthread.

Based on the entries in this thread, I can only draw one of two conclusions.

1) They don't write good theme songs any more
2) We're all old

Notice those are not mutually exclusive.

How can anyone argue the point when you have people like Schifrin and Badalamenti being discussed.

This intro is literally two and a half minutes long... week in and week out. NO WAY modern sensibility would allow that these days.

I don't think anyone has posted this one, but, c'mon, the great Frankie Laine.

Even better:

The GOAT???????

Alan Thicke wrote the themes for The Facts of Life and Diff'rent Strokes. However, he did not write the Growing Pains theme.

Broken YouTube Link

The Monkeys definitely deserves careful consideration... that was my next post.
