UnitedHealth CEO Assassinated
The murder of UnitedHealthcare's CEO is a strange story. On the one hand, the killer obviously was taking steps to avoid getting caught. He was wearing a hoodie. He used a silencer. He clearly had an escape plan.
On the other hand, he was wearing a distinctive backpack. He may have left a food wrapper and a water bottle at the scene. And there was writing on each of the three shell casings (the words "deny," "defend," and "depose").
Because you're the one who refuted my hypothesis by saying there are plenty of cases. Why would you not want to share those cases?
I said there were plenty of cass of non professional hitmen hired. I meant in general. You're the one who narrowed te field and added specifics. I haven't refused anything and for the actual third time i don'tsubscribetothetheorythatthewife hired a hitman.
So I reckon you've inferred wrongly.
I may well have missed this bit of info, but are there any clues as to how the shooter knew (or seemed to know) that the target would be leaving his hotel alone early in the morning to go to Starbucks?

Yeah, I’m sure some suburban housewife has really great connections to underworld hit men from her decades of riding in those circles.
So she just rides around low-income areas looking for a hitman, rather than discreet and vague probing in her elite circles?
Seems like you're further proving that the wife was very unlikely involved.

You can't speak in generalities when you're talking about a narrow class of people. Can you think of any problems that would occur with a person in that class hiring some scrub to kill her husband?

lol discretely probing elite circles. “Hey Bunty you mentioned your El Salvadorian stable boy, you think he knows someone that does wet work?”
I don’t think it’s likely she was involved. But not because I’d expect her to be better at setting up a hit.

Yeah, and when she buys cocaine, she's getting the same stuff stepped on with fentanyl in Skid Row.
Pretty tough to hire a hitman without getting jackpotted. Quite a few people in prison for it. Add in a lot of wealth and it's a recipe for endless blackmail.
That's very true, I think that's partly why she ended up with a knucklehead hitman. If you really want to kill a guy like that, making it look like it was a disgruntled patient or patient's family member seems like a thought process most people would follow. But who knows, nothing would surprise me here.

It's far more likely, with that much cash on the line, that she would pass on a hitman altogether if she couldn't find a suitable one than hire a knucklehead.
They said that backpack costs new around $300 (used on eBay It was $190)-- and so taking it with the intention of leaving it behind is really intriguing when you could go to Walmart and buy a $20 Jansport*. It's possible of course that he got it for free and doesn't know the value of it, but between that and the $2000 pistol it's saying something about the killer.
*Plus if you're anything like a normal middle class anglo american in their 20s you probably have multiple backpacks laying around (I have about 7) so why use what is presumably your nicest?
The wife theory is dumb. Whomever did this wanted it to be a spectacle. It being in midtown Manhattan, writing deny, defend, depose on the shell casings, and leaving Monopoly money in a book bag.
It's not going to be the Occam's razor explanation but if you remove him being a healthcare CEO, and remove the writing on the bullets and Monopoly money and replace him with some generic CEO involved in a separation, then the wife is always going to be someone who is looked at. So it's not really "dumb" to suggest it but most of the people who are probably aren't really serious about it but more like "wouldn't it be funny if it turns out to be the wife all along..."
Since they have the backpack and probably 100+ people will recognize him from the photos we should have an answer soon. I still think the wife is the most likely scenario.

And if you remove a surgeon's medical license and training, it's just some scammer slicing people open for cash.

Sure you can when others make assumptions that hitmen are always professional. You can validly point out that this isn't alway so, even if you don't personally buy into a hired gun in this specific case at present.

ItÂ’s either some kind of activist/terrorist group who wanted to shine a line on the insurance industry or part of the hacking group that blackmailed United Healthcare for its data breach. I believe they paid out $700 million to them. Maybe there was an additional payment that wasnÂ’t made.
If Danny Ocean killed people instead of stealing from the rich, this is exactly the type of misdirection he would employ..
I highly doubt the wife ordered a hitman. Much more likely the shooter had connections that gave him info to his routes or he had them or found them out on his own. Its easy to overthink this stuff.
You guys have way too much respect for well off suburbanites if you think it’s expected they could get away with murder without getting caught in 24 hrs.

You don't use one of your regular backpacks! Those things are packed with your DNA to the nines!
