Higher of Lower: Random Edition

Higher of Lower: Random Edition

I'll make a false statement and you guys guess higher or lower. Same deal as the other game basically, except these will be totally random and they won't correlate to the question number at all.

I don't have a set of q's to ask, so this will be mostly just be whatever happens to come to my mind at the time. Let's say if you get to 10 in a row, you win!

1. Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro have collaborated on 9 films together

(Note: they made a short film together in 2015 called The Audition, which I am not counting.)

Correct! There are 8 species. I think the only one unmentioned is the sloth bear. There's also 2 types of black bear - American and Asian.

Oh, and pandas are indeed bears.

2. South Park has aired 350 episodes, including specials

Hmm, I guess I have not reviewed panda taxonomy since before 1985.

I feel like South Park has been on since the mid 90's? Seems like it has to be over 350, but due to the nature of this game, I guess it's right around 350.

I wanna say later-90s (97/98), but yeah. It’s been around for a while. And I don’t remember any sort of hiatus, so can probably call it like 25 seasons minimum.

Most sitcoms run two 13-episode blocks in fall and spring for a 26-episode season, but there’s no way that’s true for South Park otherwise we’re talking 650 episodes.

I guess we just have to decide on when it actually premiered. >350 = 1997 or earlier (or 1996 if we’re considering this season is still running, so they haven’t hit a full 27 years yet).

I think it premiered in 96

South Park came out before Family Guy (1999)

No idea how many episodes per season though

South Park debuted in August of 1997. It was my freshmen year of college. Would bet my life on it. I do not know about specials or how many episodes per year, but I can clear up any uncertainty of its start date.

Im betting 13 eps in a standard season. Not sure how stuff like holiday specials work, whether they’re part of the 13 or in addition to. If they’re part of the 13, and we call it 27 full seasons, then it’s over (351 lol). If we call it 26.5 seasons and include specials in the standard count, it’s 345…

Knowing whether specials are extra would be most helpful, haha.

Good luck to us!

Mmmm no idea besides yea it's been around a while

IBD seems to know a lot I will auto defer

Do they have a new season every year? Or is it like Curb Your Enthusiasm, and they'll take a few years off and then return with new episodes?

I am no help here.

I don’t know for sure, but I think they run a new season every year, just like The Simpsons and Family Guy. I seem to remember hearing about their 25th season a while back, but I could be wrong. It’s possible a year was taken off at some point I guess, but it’s definitely not like Curb with multi-year hiatus.

The best I can do on this is guess.

But I did move to Denver a few years ago and I went to Casa Bonita a few months ago.

I think this is right. Assuming no breaks, season 25 would have started in the fall of 2021, and they would be on season 28 right now.

I stopped watching in the mid-to-late 2010s, so I can only confirm up until then. COVID might have messed things up.

If I absolutely had to guess, I'd guess 12 episodes per year. Like 6 in the fall and 6 more in the winter/spring? That seems ballpark correct from what I remember, but it could definitely be like 8 and 8.

Yeah, COVID and a writers’ strike here and there could really mess with the tally. This ends up just being another flip for me.

I guess I'd lean toward lower.

27.5 seasons * 12 epidodes/season = 330 episodes.

I don't know what "specials" are. They must be a recent thing, as I don't remember literally any in the first 16 or so seasons that I watched.

I just mean like the Christmas episodes and stuff. But if those aren’t standalone, then they roll into the regular season count.

The Christmas/Thanksgiving episodes were just regular episodes. So were the multi-parters like Imaginationland.

Whatever specials he's referring to have to be exclusively a post-2015-ish thing, and I don't think there can be that many of them.

I think this just comes down to whether or not the seasons have 13+ episodes or not. If yes, higher. If no, lower. My guess is the latter.

You know way more about SP than I do, so I’m fine with lower.

Lower's fine with me

Lower

Yep, there are 328 episodes. Season lengths are as high as 18 episodes, but they've been at 10 or fewer for a while now.

And yeah, the specials started after covid where they would just play a couple of longer episodes instead of a full season.

Nice work, eb 👍
