The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet...i'd be shocked if they lost the election now.

Just shows just how incompetent Conservatives are.

Pretty much id like one policy to benefit me . Though I did buy a bag of Dorito's that I did not have to pay the GST on

That will be a milestone for sure to hit

I remember you saying as a family you spend $700 a month on groceries after seeing my yearly spend I am baffled on how you do that or your wife

I saved 2-4$ on all you can eat sushi! Surely helping the lowest classes. that's about it certainly going to be under 20 bucks but I doubt I'm the norm. single minimalist ftw. Were gonna pay for it later anyway and its disproportionately saving money for big spenders.

I need the paycheck to paycheck people more broke so I can buy their properties and rent it back to them! noooO! j/k they are still equally broke just have more useless garbage

I called on him to resign.

You fail to read or comprehend the post I made was that Justin Trudeau pledged to lower grocery prices and threatened the large grocery retailers if they did not than he would take action against them. I asked how that was going and if that was a lie ?

Which, as you know now, it isn't, unless you're certain that was his intent all along. And of course the other piece would be - did he actually promise that? I thought it was something more along the lines of that he would ask them to stabilize prices. But since I always thought it was a dumb thing for JT make a public spectacle of, I honestly didn't keep a close eye on precisely what he said, nor what he did or how successful it was.

by lozen k

it still does not change the fact he did nothing

I hope that's true, because I don't think it's government's role to do a whole lot in that regard. Investigating whether there's unfair business practices going on, actual price gouging, etc. seems fine; broad pronouncements about grocery prices being too high and that the stores must do something seems more like performative nonsense. But if he promised to do something and then didn't follow through, certainly you're right to call him out on it even if it was a silly promise.

So Kevin O'Leary is using his social media following to represent what Canadians are thinking, and wants to negotiate some kind of US-Canada merger/sovereignty agreement based on that. Great, thanks for sharing? O'Leary seems as useful as ever. 🙄

As for the weird video AI summary of the Trudeau grocery thing, sounds pretty much in line with what I remember. Vague statements about stabilizing prices and how government might take unknown actions possibly including taxation measures if they don't do something. Doesn't seem like anything I could even call a promise, let alone lying. That said, still seems like performative nonsense, so I'm not going to defend it - I just think it's silly to call it a lie.

Do your disagree with anything he said or just mad he's using X? Or should we do like Uke wants and buckle down and fight the 25% tariffs or we can just besnarky and use eye roll emojis and hope it works out.

Lmao that useful idiot thinks half of Canadians support merging with the US and shifty with all his cognitive enhancing nootropics can’t figure out why people might disagree.

Half probably do. Record number of Canadians are already leaving for work in the US. What do you disagree with? Neither of you have said yet....

That "useful idiot" has accomplished a lot. Including a recently accounced 70 Billion $ privately funded data center in Canada. Just because he's been openly critical of the Trudeau regime doesn't make him an idiot.

lol no. You still struggling to realize I disagree with Canada joining the Us? That needed to be spelled out to you?

Try adjusting your nootropic regimen imo.

Yeah when he said that a few days ago I was skeptical on 50 % though in this video he talks about a more strong economic union and maybe something like European Union but for Canada and the USA

Though I chatted with a few friends and was shocked a few said yeah join the USA but as two states . Quebec would go on its own before ever joining the USA heck almost 1/2 don't want to be part of Canada 😀

No way! A poll from a local newspaper......it's settled then, let's buckle up and fight!!

Hey I upgraded from lozen and his two maga buddies, that’s as much effort as I’m going to lift on this nonsense. Now if you want to kick back some nootropics and deep dive on whether Canada should join the us well that’s on you, I’m just going to be here laughing.

Doesn’t say at all lowering grocery prices when he says « stabilizing prices » , lowering profits margins , etc ….

FWIW the Europe union is a disaster economically.
Pretty sure Luciom would agree to that …

I have no idea what social media he uses, nor do I care. I'm not mad about anything. And are these my only choices?

I think it's pretty silly if O'Leary believes the feedback he receives on whatever social media he's using gives him any special insight into what all, or the majority of, Canadians want. And I have pretty strong doubts that O'Leary going to see Trump about this is going to be helpful.

As for the tariffs and what we should do, I'd expect some negotiations will get underway once Trump is sworn in. If Trump decides to follow through and just throw up tariffs immediately, of course we'll have to battle back with some measures of our own, like we have many times in the past against other duties and tariffs, and undoubtedly will again in the future (and the US of course has done the same, as have many nations). But in the end when all the sabre rattling is done, there will be a negotiation of some kind of deal, likely between Poilievre and Trump. And in principle I'd not be against some kind of stronger ties to bring something about that is akin to the EU, if it could be done in a way that makes sense. I have my doubts that such an arrangement could be made under a Trump presidency, but that likely won't be relevant as I'd think such a negotiation would extend past his present term.

ya I think if there was a solid plan close to half of Canada would want to merge with the states if we don't count Quebec. ever been to Alberta? I kinda don't see the downside personally but its never gonna happen without a lot of bad **** happening

Well some people should love to have their own country and be « boss » in their own backward ….
Especially from the right .

What exactly there is to gain from the U.S. ?
Unaffordable health care
Unaffordable education
Mass murdering guns
Religious zealots
Crazy policemen /law men
I think Canadian as a whole are smarter then Americans .

Nah not for me .
I be Quebec independence ( a big majority in Quebec too) way before joining the U.S. ….

Joining US?
The art of our voices being buried by Americans on our auto determination about our laws of the land, monetary ,etc ….
No thx.

Defending the artic which we are losing to Russia horribly and is the future of this country . Its like 1 ice breaker vs 40 right now . This is also the main reason the US would want this too
power in general
health care could probably stay were talking a economic union not a merger

definitely worth a 0.000000--1% increase chance of getting shot at school or by a policemen. I personally wanna move there if the Ontario poker gravy train drys up

Well, you sorta need to make up your mind on what you're talking about:

If you actually mean merge, of course there are lots of downsides. How we each handle education, health care, income disparity, social services, I could go on and on. Not everyone will agree that those are all downsides, and some may argue that the benefits would outweigh the costs, but there certainly are downsides.

If you mean an economic union instead, then that certainly could cut the downside substantially.

im down for either(at the end of trumps term **** that) but they/kevin o Leary were talking about a union not a merge. Denmark Russia and America are way ahead of us on making artic claims. Its pitiful really considering half our country is the artic 100% of are military budget should be put into that. With Americas military backing us up we have endless resources forever.

For the pro climate folks its also the best outcome. Canada can't do anything for climate change but america sure can. America adding 40 million left wing voters would help climate change alot more then Canada ever will
