The "LOLCANADA" thread...again
So what's new?
I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet...i'd be shocked if they lost the election now.
Just shows just how incompetent Conservatives are.
it's very easy: if leftist types tell you a word or expression is no longer allowed to be used they way it was in the past, use it as much as you can and when asked why you do this, explicitly clarify you do it to piss off the rotten apples in society who think they can tell others how to speak.
they are the worst people around is and they deserve every hit of nuisance we can create for them.
remember those people are the people who tried to push "Latinx" as the only proper way to address people of south American origins living in the usa.
Which is unexcusable and unforgettable.
they also keep telling you men can get pregnant

And tampons in Men's washrooms and think its OK for a grown man to change in a women's locker room .
Sorry not in my world
I’m not talking about the words native, Indians I’m fine using Indigenous . It’s a no brainer for me . It’s like the word ****** or the N word I just don’t use them . I don’t say that’s so gay either .
But please don’t ask me to use they/them or men can get pregnant.
Ok. We were talking about language to describe indigenous people when you did your little "radical left" song and dance routine. Instead what you are apparently talking about (and no one else?) is your transphobic refusal to use a trans person's pronouns? Ok, well that's unfortunately transphobic, but maybe take it to a different thread if that's something you want to cry about?
lozen unless you refer to someone as zirix in the third person when he asks you to, you are somethingphobic according to Justin Trudeau team.
will you sleep tonight knowing this?
I've always found it strange the reactions some people have when learning that the language they use is not really up to date.
It certainly can be.
lol 😀
And no it’s not inconvenient to me , it’s that I trust I’m not using words in bad faith .
And I mean what I say and sometimes a reality check, even if it can hurt, is a good thing .
Failure hurts but it is damn good way to get better and go further .
Sure. I mean, that's all we can do, especially as older people who aren't as immersed in our changing times. We're going to **** up sometimes, someone will tell us, and we can learn and move on. For the most part, people are good with that. Sure, social media is full of people who want to take offense and castigate people for anything and everything they say (and you might come across an extremely small number in person), but I don't spend any time worrying about them. And I find that the groups we're talking about, for the most part, are very forgiving and understanding. As part of my work, I've heard many speakers and sat on numerous committees with different groups and I can't recall having heard someone getting angry over the use of an incorrect term. I'm not saying it never happens, but in my experience it's pretty rare. Of course that doesn't stop people like the troll who has "reentered the chat" from making it out like some big ordeal so we have to go out of our way to offend people because how dare they let us know they find something we say offensive - we have rights to be as offensive as we want!!11!!1!!1!! (Troll's not entirely accurate, because I'm sure he believes what he says, but it's not inaccurate either when he spends his time popping into threads as soon as he sees one of his pet topics discussed so he can derail the thread off into what he finds objectionable about the "radical left".)
It can also be tricky when we're right in the middle of the change. It's not like re****ed was fine to use one day and then verboten the next - the change took time. A good example right now is aboriginal vs. indigenous. There are some people who find aboriginal quite problematic, and others who think it is fine. In our school district, we have an aboriginal education department, and indigenous groups have been fine with keeping it that way, even though in conversation we typically use indigenous. I think there may be discussions in the coming year about a change, but in other districts, indigenous groups wanted go there years ago. So as a non-indigenous person, it can be complicated, but for that reason, I've not heard any direct criticism of people using the term aboriginal.
Oh FFS dude, why do you need to go there, if you believe this:
I’m not talking about the words native, Indians I’m fine using Indigenous . It’s a no brainer for me . It’s like the word ****** or the N word I just don’t use them . I don’t say that’s so gay either .
Great, so there's really not a need for carrying about it being illegal to offend someone, is there?
Sounds like a topic for another thread.
"grandpa we arbitrarily decided you can't say that anymore as we do every 10-20 years to keep the population on its toes and if you disagree you are a monster, and if you insist there are legal consequences to that".
I used to use the phrase "the natives are restless" until I realized how gross and racist it is.
Probably because I’m not a English speaking « native » (oops again sorry even tho I apply it even to me ) but I have no idea what this means or what it’s referring too ?
Fwiw when a term might have some bad connotation for w.e reason but it doesn’t everywhere in the world I dunno , I just go with the global term not being offensive shrug .
Now should a little part of Canada have control on all over the word we can and cannot use because some people might get offended for no reason at all or close when it’s being use with no bad conotation at all ?
I say no but I guess it’s a just line that differe for each individual —> the personal freedom always at the hinge of another person personal freedom .
Well never to old to learn but it just mesmerizing to me how neutral words have been able to have so much negativity in them in today society based on probably little implication of anything ….
Maybe someday will be able just to talk in numbers instead of words and even then will ban numbers because of some Other reasons even those numbers represented the correct value …..

I'm being facetious. Let's say you are at a football game and in the first quarter your team isn't doing well. There will be a murmur in the crowd. The announcers will typically say that the natives are growing restless.
Anyone that thinks "natives" is gross or racist is probably always offended.

Yes, they also live in a gigantic bubble.
So the deficit would have been a whopping $78B instead of the $60B if CRA doesn't take into account the increased in capital gains taxes. Which has not been passed into law and most likely will not be, but they are looking to collect these taxes anyway. How the hell do you collect taxes on policy that hasn't been written into law yet and laws that most likely won't pass?
This last 12 months has probably been the absolute worst Canadian governance I have ever seen in my entire life.
Spend like a drunken sailor during a non recession / non pandemic time to buy votes while cratering in the polls, accrue gigantic deficits, announce policy to raise taxes to help bridge those deficits, resign / prorogue and put Canada in a limbo mess with 20% support nationally.
We should nominate Doug Ford as temporary Canadian leader just so that he can continue giving the middle finger every time Trump talks about Canada.

I saw that on the news and said WTF you are implementing a policy that hasn’t passed into law . Though with revenue Canada it’s the only place your guilty till proven innocent

Ah ok I see ! 😀
Kinda agree too .
Now that the DS puppet is stepping aside, it's time to MCGA!
Stop stop stop. Don't let Uke re-write history in front of your face.
Trudeau's election was end of 2021.
The trucker protest was 2022.
You don't know how many votes Trudeau "lost" because the election had already happened.
i just ment future votes... he didn't make the election tho. also native. as a native its only offensive if used offensively but im also ok bringing back some gamer words lol. A lot of offensive words like Negroid are still used in everyday science because thats where they are from. Native is just short for Native American not sure how that one became even slightly offensive. I think these words are only offensive when used offensively.
I can see "the natives are restless" being offensive but when its used its not usually even talking about native americans. Just the local "natives" of whatever place your in.
Growing up getting called native did make me uncomfortable sometimes. I think there was just a lack of acceptable offensive words to call Indigenous people as indian was already phased out (and also stupid) so native was used as both offensive and normal. Eventually every term will become the new insult as people make it the new slight word in this path and thats stupid it has to stop at some point. At some point you gotta own a name
that probably came off a bit bad all I'm saying is in 5 years Native american will be offensive. In 15 Indigenous. I think aboriginal already is

Are we in the US? Notice how in Canada we typically call groups First Nations, Inuit, Metis, etc? Not Native Americans.

Just making stuff up now?

Hmmmm
Negroid (less commonly called Congoid) is an obsolete racial grouping of various people indigenous to Africa south of the area which stretched from the southern Sahara desert in the west to the African Great Lakes in the southeast,[1] but also to isolated parts of South and Southeast Asia (Negritos).[2] The term is derived from now-disproven conceptions of race as a biological category.[3]
The concept of dividing humans into three races called Caucasoid, Mongoloid, and Negroid (originally named "Ethiopian") was introduced in the 1780s by members of the Göttingen school of history and further developed by Western scholars in the context of "racist ideologies" during the age of colonialism.[4]
wtf is this a real post from trump???
I'm scrolling news about canada panama greenland claims and this is the first time I'm legit worried by this idiot Trump.
He's so dumb he might actually do something really atrocious here.
I'm curious how MAGA and the right (yes lucia) are seeing this.
I was assured Trump was anti war , anti expansion etc...

I love it when you quote a movie and it's clear the character is your hero (1st 15min) and yet you are completely self owning yourself.
That Pierre Poilievre guy looks like he'll be a disaster...I hope I'm wrong but I would not be surprised at all if he a one termer.
At least Trudeau didn't go off the rails until the last couple years

Problem is he is inheriting Justin’s disaster I’m not sure 4 years is enough to fix everything he has done and the things we still do not know about . I’m sure Justin will be shredding non stop the next few months
Look at him stepping down the right thing to do was implement a temporary PM someone not running .
Will see if all these cabinet ministers running resign their positions
So the winner of the leadership race will be the next PM . It will the first time that non Canadians will determine the PM
