Reading Marcus Aurelius this morning and he is cautioning me against "becoming obsessed with quail-fighting" a pasttime that had passed me by but with which I now am misfortunately obsessed. Apparently, it's a big money sport in Pakistan & Afghanistan.

Male quail are fundamentally pugnacious but can be harnessed by spraying them with a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar to, I guess disguise their pheromones? I'm new to quail biology.

And I can't find my snowshovel. I own one. It's somewhere. I'm having to dig out with flat spade. How can a person lose a snowshovel.

Fried quail is delicious. Also stuffed quail. Ooo Quail eggs! Ok, I’m useless here.

I changed jobs in January.

It's only been 3 days so far but so far so good.

Same money, workload greatly reduced for a better work life balance.

I have the job I have because the work/life balance is amazing.

I work from home 95% of the time, other people handle the datacenter hardware.

I just post up in my lair and cast spells over the VPN.

But yeah, I'm not making FAANG money.

That's about all I know. He's the most involved, at least publicly, of the 2 new owners and seems to also be very involved in the coding of the new version of the site. I think he was the creator of hand2note. Seems like a good guy from limited interaction. Very open to suggestions and criticism.

does anyone remember the day we all logged in and there was wood paneling everywhere? I think maybe Mat had pressed the wood paneling button for some reason.

Yeah, the new site is news to me as well. I vaguely remember one time signing in and some things were different that people were complaining about, but can't recall that it had something to do with wood panelling. 2+2 Woody edition sounds kinda dope tho

just went outside to get soup and it's crazy AF out there. really smoky in downtown LA, soot all over. I had to wear an N95 mask just to walk a few blocks

Monday is the worst with chicken noodle and tomato bisque.... I actually love chicken noodle and tomato bisque, but this place doesn't make them good

I live right by phillipe French dip, and they make decent split pea and corn chowder, and cream of broccoli.

it's kind of a famous old LA spot. the food is pretty bad though

There is a new fire in the Hollywood Hills that is like 7 miles away from that french dip place I am seriously starting to get concerned.

I was rather surprised that they played the UCLA-Michigan game last night, Westwood isn't all THAT far from Pacific Palisades/Santa Monica.

when I first moved to LA in 2017 I lived right by the new fire in Hollywood.

I haven't moved yet. I'm currently paying rent on both places lol fml.... I'm part way moved in. my new place is by the palisades fire!!!! as of right now it's yards away from the edge of the evacuation warning... so it's a sick sweat.

the fire is 0% contained, so good chance my place will be under evacuation order by tomorrow. or at least evacuation warning

I used to buy weed in the Hollywood fire area from literally this guy. He taught me about doing dabs! He recently became a televangelist, completing the cycle.
