NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

Just 8 days until Florida State plays Georgia Tech!

A lot happened while you were away:

Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC

The Pac-12 went out in a blaze of glory:
Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA are headed to the B1G
Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are headed to the B12
Cal and Stanford along with SMU are somehow headed to the ACC
Poor old Wazzu and Oregon State are now aligned with the MWC in some sort of in-flux relationship

The conferences are huge now, and the schedules are wildly imbalanced. Florida might have the hardest schedule in the history of the sport, while Missouri's playing a sun-belt slate.

FSU and Clemson play each other, but then play ZERO common ACC opponents

Utah/Baylor and Arizona/Kansas State play non-conference games against conference opponents

LSU and USC play in Vegas!

Boise goes to Oregon, a team they've never lost to!

Texas at Michigan!

Alabama at Wisconsin!

Notre Dame at ATM!

Clemson vs Georgia!

And there are some incredibly juicy new conference matchups:

Texas @ ATM is back!

Texas vs Georgia

Oregon vs Ohio State

USC @ Michigan

USC vs Penn State

And then the bizarre:

UCLA @ Rutgers is now a conference game

Syracuse plays home and away against Cal and Stanford for some reason

Half the teams have new coaches, transferred quarterbacks, or both!

Let's get it on!

I'm not a college watcher but did they ever play a real team on NBC? Seems like it was always a joke or whenever they promoted it on other sports broadcasts it was always something like ND vs. Central Michigan

Word on the street is they played and lost to the greatest college football program of all time on NBC in 94, 06, & 10,

Caron Beck is transferring to Miami. Shocker

Had seen projections of ND +6 to +7.5 vs tOSU and +2.5 to +3 vs TX (which is definitely weird given tonight's 6 point spread).

I don't bet college much but I will be very surprised if ND/TEX closes higher than ND +2.5. Same with ND/OSU higher than +6.5.

I got projected totals ND/TEX 46, and ND/OSU 56.

I'm definitely one of the haters but **** the haters. 2012 and the other years they made the playoffs were still super special years. And no matter what happens at this point, this year is ND's best year since they won the national title in 93*.

Spoiler
Show

*: I don't care what the history books say. I saw them beat FSU with my own two eyes. They will always be national champions to me.

ILP….i know you still have about 12 years of natty goodwill built up for Wolverines one year ago, but….

Can it get worse than potential tOSU vs ND for a title from a Michigan fan perspective? I know ND hasn’t been much recently, but still some history there. I was selling tshirts outside big house in 92 or 93 during that game. Had $1 pitchers at little brown jug I believe.

I've looked at all the square and mush money and have decided Texas +6.5 at even money is the play.

Ryan day is a loser secondary thesis.

I could see them closing at +3 or +7 with a decisive win tonight and Love being seen wearing an even bigger knee brace in practice (for some reason) or rumors their flus have turned into pneumonia. Usually you can rely on ND fans to bet the line down but it hasn't happened in the playoffs (I think only Georgia didn't move against them). Sad, scared is a terrible way to experience a successful playoff run.

I'm coming up with 47 and 51, but it'll probably be "over or tease the under" either way. I'm just so tired of rooting against Overtime. Last night's teaser did work out quite well with PSU +7.5 and u52, but OT would almost certainly have killed it as it always does.

and all the years of having to watch shitty teams on NBC every ****ing weekend, no matter how bad they were

So much this!

And I don't think it was restricted to NBC if you go back to the days when not each of the three networks were showing college games on Saturday. I'm not sure how we survived back then.

That's what I'm hearing in the Wolverine circles I frequent (Mgoblog, Reddit), that tOSU vs ND is the worst nightmare matchup for Michigan fans. It's not a consensus but it does seem like a majority at least on the internet. Personally I just don't feel it. I have no visceral hate towards ND. I mean sure any chance I can be a hater and make fun of them I'll do it, but their success has never bothered me. Idk so much of my college football nostalgia comes from ND. I love their fight song, love the uniforms, and my favorite game in my formative years was always ND vs Michigan. God I loved that matchup. Absolute magic to me.

Ohio State is a different story. Will always have an immense amount of hate for them. Primal, visceral hate. Once Tressel came in, in the early 2000s and they decided to sell their soul as a program and become a fully operational SEC empire within the Big Ten, illegally paying players, stacking rosters and thus taking over the conference, I have wanted nothing but bad things to happen to them. If ND beats Ohio state in the national title game, if anyone stops them from winning it all, I will be ecstatic. My joy will almost be as intense as if Michigan won it all again.

Yep the 93 game was in Ann Arbor. I had high hopes for that 93 Michigan team. Figured ND was gonna be an easy win since Rick Mirer had graduated to the pros. Still have nightmares of this relatively unknown super-entity McDougal running all over the place crushing all of Michigan's dreams week 1.

Posts like this is why I was so happy for ILP and the UM faithful after title-ing last year.

So many classics in ND/UM. This one stands out:

Was also happy for a late Army friend Ian Fishback who got his PhD from UM. Tutored the team, and absolutely LOVED Michigan football. I remember giving him crap about Jadeveon Clowney absolutely murdering the one UM player in the Outback Bowl.

Anyway, he sadly lost a tragic battle with mental illness and PTSD. Was also known for exposing US torture of Iraqis during the war. Here’s his NYT Obituary:

That 89 Michigan team had national title talent but Bo had to keep kicking to the greatest kick returner in the history of the game. Sigh. And back then you lose one game and you're likely out of it. Anyone who hates on a 12 team playoff has no clue what real college football pain is. If they did they would never be against it. An entire season shouldn't be ruined from two historical kickoff returns. Goddamn man. One of the worst loses in Michigan history.

Just read his letter to McCain on wikipedia:

Dude is real American hero. The way his life spiraled to an end sounds like the worst kind of horror story. And then he literally dies at the worst possible time of his fandom. Eight days before Michigan slays the demon and begins one of their best runs in program history. ****ing tragic man. I might live twice as long as this guy but I'll never be half the man he was.

NDs coach is extremely likeable while Ryan day is an absolute douche so that alone makes ND the choice to root for. Don't want Texas to win cause lol sec slappies

So fired up right now. Plz Texas. I don't care about my money.

tOSU -5.5 and waited out o51

I have a ND ticket and I'd like them against TX, so even if I lose I win.

I hate chick sideline reporters...so much.

Here we go

Hook 'em!

Go?

What a shame

Sigh

I usually zone out during commercials, but somehow this ****ing High Tide commercial grabs my attention. I hate the commercial, and I hate that they figured out how to snare my brain.

Game over
