Box Office Draft 2025 Thread

Box Office Draft 2025 Thread

Proposed rules:

- No January movies
-10 teams, 8 picks per team (no January and maybe still a reduced number of movies?)
-$325m cap on each pick (Maybe move this?)
-Standard snake draft of the ABABABAB variety (only 6 of us and there are 6 bangers, so no need for 6th to go first 2 rounds in a row)
-Most North American box office at the end of January 2026 wins

Note: If your movie gets (1) moved to 2026 or (2) does not get a theatrical release or (3) gets a simultaneous streaming/theatrical release (be wary of Netflix films!), you may pick a movie that went unpicked, but it must be at least two weeks from release.
For substitutions only: $250m cap if its a 1st round pick, $150m cap for a round 2 pick, $100m cap for round 3 & 4, $75m for round 5 & 6, $70m cap for round 7 & 8, and $50m cap for round 9 & 10.

Randed order:
Chuck
Nich
Zeus
D1
Aaron
Derwi

if it's too confusing we can go back to the old way

I just thought with fewer teams it made more sense for the end to not get 7/8/14 when 7 and 8 should have good shot at capping while 13 for 1st pick won't so 7/8 > 1/13 so 14 shouldn't go to 7/8...but maybe I'm wrong there anyway or maybe it's just too much churn to change it up

Not suggesting you did this on purpose, but I think if you wanted to change it from the way it's always been, you needed to open it up for discussion before randing it, since this does favour you more now.

Am I up? It's so confusing lol

Anyway, I'm not picking until morning, when I can get my spreadsheet.

Yeah I went to do the thread today since it is getting late and I copied in rules from last time and went through them and saw that and edited and then randed after

I think I mentioned last year that I didn’t love ABBA and this year with 6 teams it didn’t make sense to have #6/7 capping the same as #1 and them also to get #14 so I a changed it up due to less teams

But since we usually do it the other way and the sheet is the other way, we can just keep it ABBABAB…

This is just for fun and to get familiar with the next year of movies so doesn’t have to be fully fair anyway

You're up and then we go to normal snake so you'll have a double pick every time you're up after this one.

Michael

I was kinda hoping Zurvan would pick Fantastic Four so I can justify gambling on this one.

Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning

Thanks.

Sorry for joining late and slowing everything down.

Don't worry about it you're fine.

Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning

Btw I think this will end up being a bit of a steal and outgross several movies drafted before it, I was hoping you'd somehow leave it for me.

yeah I was thinking of MI, but the last one did 120M but then again it was during Barbenheimer so without that this time I expect this to outperform 120M; also the last one

The last one made 170m actually. I don't know if the ceiling is too high but to me it feels pretty safe for ~200m which I assume some of the previously drafted movies will miss out on.

yeah, around 200M seems reasonable with some upside
