NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

NCAA FOOTBALL 2024 MEGA THREAD - WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFF ERA

Just 8 days until Florida State plays Georgia Tech!

A lot happened while you were away:

Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC

The Pac-12 went out in a blaze of glory:
Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA are headed to the B1G
Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are headed to the B12
Cal and Stanford along with SMU are somehow headed to the ACC
Poor old Wazzu and Oregon State are now aligned with the MWC in some sort of in-flux relationship

The conferences are huge now, and the schedules are wildly imbalanced. Florida might have the hardest schedule in the history of the sport, while Missouri's playing a sun-belt slate.

FSU and Clemson play each other, but then play ZERO common ACC opponents

Utah/Baylor and Arizona/Kansas State play non-conference games against conference opponents

LSU and USC play in Vegas!

Boise goes to Oregon, a team they've never lost to!

Texas at Michigan!

Alabama at Wisconsin!

Notre Dame at ATM!

Clemson vs Georgia!

And there are some incredibly juicy new conference matchups:

Texas @ ATM is back!

Texas vs Georgia

Oregon vs Ohio State

USC @ Michigan

USC vs Penn State

And then the bizarre:

UCLA @ Rutgers is now a conference game

Syracuse plays home and away against Cal and Stanford for some reason

Half the teams have new coaches, transferred quarterbacks, or both!

Let's get it on!

It seemed like a B Kelly gameplan. Not just the special teams foibles but we abandoned trying to run our best RB who had carried the team. The pass coverage was an obvious flop as well.

It was a side to side hit about 30 years before there was a blind side block rule (if it applies). ND was not contending for a national title that year, only to keep Colorado from sharing one.

The good thing to come out of today could be Day's 10 year extension.

Yeah I thought they’d need to at least *try* to get Love going, ever.

Side hits do not result in a guy flying forward and landing flat on his face like Superman. However, if we’ve moved beyond “there was no questionable block at all” I do appreciate it.

Clearly the guy was just trying to block him legally, but the CU guy ran past him so that became physically impossible. “Oops” doesn’t cancel a penalty (except pi, probably).

That line is ridiculous. Ohio State is losing a ton of talent. They currently don't have a viable QB on their roster. They're considering starting some midget white guy. Michigan is at home. We're gonna have one of the best defenses in the country again. Let's not forget our backup defenders punched Bama's starters in the mouth ALL GAME. And Michigan now has a QB with more talent than Jayden Daniels. Ohio State is totally ****ed. Honestly all of college football is ****ed. Michigan will crush the reigning 4th place B1G finishers on 11/29. I promise you that.

When you are looking right at it and drive right into it. Hmm.

Day might turn out a bit like Tom Osborne. Great win % from get go, but can't win big one and owned by biggest rival ... takes all kind of abuse and almost run out of town. Then puts up a dynasty on top of the sick win %. And all the critics are like, "Whoops."

Or he might be John Cooper and put up a sick win % while also shitting the bed so often against Michigan that he takes all kind of abuse and is actually run out of town despite national recognition.

The sick thing is he actually IS John Cooper but it doesn't matter anymore. It's a new era, new format. It's all about making the playoffs now, getting to final 4s, and occasionally winning national championships. The Game is just a game now. They'll still hype it up but it's hollow.

If Ryan Day coached in the 90s he would've been fired. And if they had a 12 team playoff in the 90s Cooper probably would've won 2 national titles between 93-98 and been a legend. Those are the breaks.

What was Hairball's record against Ohio?

Well I'm showing Cooper 45-22-4 his first six years with OSU and Day 70-10. Osborne 55-16 with 1-5 against mega rival and abused mercilessly for it. I'll stick with the Osborne comparison, especially because he's set up to maybe win multiple titles after the loser label. Agree he would have been fired this year if not for the new format. But it's the best program in the country right now, isn't it? Bama done. Texas close but that coach has demons. I guess you can't really say they have passed Georgia yet, but on the field and in the boosters it looked like it.

by Lawnmower Man k

3-5 which is pretty damn good when you consider the fact that Ohio State always had super loaded rosters from illegally paying players. And Harbaugh only had a real QB 2 out of those 8 years (because great QBs cost money). It would've been very interesting going forward had Harbaugh stayed. Now that paying players is legal the talent gap between Ohio State and Michigan should at least be a lot closer.

You're correct. Running forward continues his forward motion when hit from the side. Pay attention to where the block began, not where the defender ended up.

by FellaGaga-52 k

But it's the best program in the country right now, isn't it?

We'll find out next year. Nobody's talking about it but they lose a lot of veteran players (who never beat Michigan, lol). There is a ton of talent as always and they may buy some guys in the spring portal but it's not a run-it-back year like this year was.

SC paid a million dollars to hire ND's GM. In other news, college football programs now have general managers.
