Box Office Draft 2025 Thread

Box Office Draft 2025 Thread

Proposed rules:

- No January movies
-10 teams, 8 picks per team (no January and maybe still a reduced number of movies?)
-$325m cap on each pick (Maybe move this?)
-Standard snake draft of the ABABABAB variety (only 6 of us and there are 6 bangers, so no need for 6th to go first 2 rounds in a row)
-Most North American box office at the end of January 2026 wins

Note: If your movie gets (1) moved to 2026 or (2) does not get a theatrical release or (3) gets a simultaneous streaming/theatrical release (be wary of Netflix films!), you may pick a movie that went unpicked, but it must be at least two weeks from release.
For substitutions only: $250m cap if its a 1st round pick, $150m cap for a round 2 pick, $100m cap for round 3 & 4, $75m for round 5 & 6, $70m cap for round 7 & 8, and $50m cap for round 9 & 10.

Randed order:

Also quick note that back then there were a lot more takes about how movies would perform and it's actually kinda fun to see how wrong some of them turned out to be.

Yeah, the drafts were a lot more fun back then. Not sure when or why we stopped with the hot takes.

Dog Man
The Accountant 2

Dog Man comes out in January.

I think back then we ran this earlier and so weren’t as rushed and had more discussion

Also post-pandemic and with streaming sooner, box office has lost some of its luster

I’m less certain of how movies will do than I was back then

Oh was thinking if it wasn't released it was fine. Nevermind. I don't know

Final Destination: Bloodlines

Now You See Me 3

Now You See Me 3

I loved one and two hoping this ones as good

Gunna go super left field with Nobody 2 and hope that revenge porn still has power

I'll take The Battle of Baktan Cross.

PTA is box office poison, but maybe Leo and a big budget will offset that a little?

The Smurfs Movie

Animal Friends

The Smurfs Movie

This was my other choice when I took Spongebob, interesting that it fell so far just to get sniped right before my turn.

I'll go with

Saw XI
The Bride!

Horror is always reliable

The Housemaid

Regretting You

Smurfs has been making less and less with each movie. Last one only did $40m, so it's hard to imagine it's gonna make big bucks just based on that.

Marty Supreme

I debated taking that, but was put off by the release date.

I think that's in it's favour actually. I don't expect huge numbers, but Chalamet Christmas releases have been a recipe for success in recent years!

That is the flip side lol.

I totally forgot that Lost Village exists.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

I don't think that's releasing in US theatres.

Yeah releasing on Peacock in the US according to wikipedia.
