In other news
In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.
I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.
Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.
are the names and personal details of the crew of the helicopter public yet?
Wait, are you thinking that training in this case means practice?
When asked if he was going to visit the crash site he said,
"What site? The water? You want me to go swimming?"
Because there are leftwing tweets with 100k+ likes claiming that they were all "cis straight white people", to answer Trump unsubstantiated claims about DEI being related to the accident

And because on the other side there are rightwing tweets by some really radical accounts claiming one of the helicopter pilot was trans , enraged with Trump recent EO that excluded trans from the military, to the point they think suicide might be the reason for the event

So, i think it's quite relevant to settle the issue with actual data about the helicopter crew, which i didn't manage to find.
Well I found it for you.
What do you say about those "leftwing tweets" now?
wait searching the names you gave me many sources list those 2 + the Jo ellis trans person discussed by the radical in the above linked tweet, apparently as co-pilot. And that person was the one being trained (again; all apparentlly, just searching those names, can't vet the sources).
I read in this thread it is the co-pilot who talked with traffic control, did i get it wrong?
Guess i'll wait for a primary trustable news source like WSJ or FT or the like to come up with the actual details.
I haven't seen that confirmed. Have you?

It was just a matter of time before woke policies got people killed.

I'm glad they got these evil doers.

Trump was only speaking about the FAA, not the pilots or anyone else. Trump said people should be hired for their skill and ability to do the job no matter what their race or sexual preferences are.
They were required bv the last administration to hire more transgender, people mentally or physically handicapped, more blacks and hispanics, and less white people.
In the prior administration people were hired based on their sexual preferences over their qualifications because they put diversity over our own safety.
This is the guy they tried to head the FAA. He couldn't even answer any easy basic questions about aviation or airspace whatsoever. This is the equivalent of running out on the street, grabbing someone, and asking them if they'd like to head the FAA...
Broken YouTube LinkThese two have some further insights into some of the things that contributed to the crash
Broken YouTube LinkLet's assume DEI pilots vs normal pilots are equally skilled.
If an organization uses $100m budget for DEI purposes rather than training purposes, that's going to lower the ability of the pilots.
It's not an attack on the pilots themselves (although unfortunately in this situation it very much does seem pilot error), its an attack on the program. Money should be used for training and beneficial purposes, not superfluous initiatives.
I think it was pretty horrible at best that when the tower asked the Blackhawk if they have the CRJ and he responded "Traffic in sight request visual separation". To translate this into english, he's basically saying "I see him, now leave us alone we got this". It seems like he didn't wanna talk to anyone but for unknown reasons. Maybe he didn't want his callsign read out over the air, who knows but that wasn't a bright move with all that traffic around them.
That lady was 100% right, he never called out the traffic properly nor advise him of the CRJ's altitude and position from them. I think this is why the controller was so timid, thinking "I know these military guys don't wanna talk to me, but they're getting close to the CRJ let me ask them quick if they still have him in sight". He still should of gave more info to them to avoid them, at this point he was getting collision alerts on his screen.

Program under Trump.
Moreover, the FAA under Trump in 2019 launched a program to hire controllers using the very criteria he decried at his news conference.
“FAA Provides Aviation Careers to People with Disabilities,” the agency announced on April 11, 2019. The pilot program, the announcement said, would “identify specific opportunities for people with targeted disabilities, empower them and facilitate their entry into a more diverse and inclusive workforce.”
The link under “targeted disabilities” is now dead, but the Wayback Machine retains links from June 2017 and January 2021 that show the page was unchanged during Trump’s tenure. The list included:
- Hearing (total deafness in both ears)
- Vision (Blind)
- Missing Extremities
- Partial Paralysis
- Complete Paralysis, Epilepsy
- Severe intellectual disability
- Psychiatric disability
- Dwarfism

Was this guy not aware there would be questions at his hearing?
Thank goodness Trump is back. Common sense is back.

Idk if it was more funny or more sad when he was asked what the limitations are on a basic level medical certificate and he said "high blood pressure". It's based on limitations of a/c you can fly and number of passengers lol.
It seems they were only looking for 20 people for a temp position
The FAA will enroll up to 20 people in the Aviation Development Program. They will train for up to one year at 10 Air Route Traffic Control Centers throughout the U.S. The following facilities will participate in the pilot: Minneapolis, Minn., Cleveland, Ohio, Boston, Mass., Denver, Colo., Fort Worth, Texas, Jacksonville, Fla., Seattle, Wash., Memphis, Tenn., Kansas City, Kan., and Salt Lake City, Utah.
The candidates in this program will receive the same rigorous consideration in terms of aptitude, medical and security qualifications as those individuals considered for a standard public opening for air traffic controller jobs. Participants in the program will receive up to one year of experience in an Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) with the potential to be appointed to a temporary ATCS position at the FAA Academy.
