I would definitely watch a movie from Australia about a kangaroo who wore a stolen letterman jacket... yeah I would watch that!

oner more thing about Better Man...there's an incredible sequence where the boy band Take That does a a musical number in the streets of London it's like a time-montage, where they start out unknown and end up being huge and famous with lots of girls chasing them and stuff.

And it's all in one shot.

There are costume changes, dance numbers, synchronous pogo-bouncing (lol), and more.

It was pretty incredible.

Little history...

The Cohen Brothers originally shot The Man who wasn't there in color and desaturated it for release in gray scale...

A clever man can source the original color version of the film... but it is exceedingly rare.

I am clever...

I didn't make the half hour mark, and I don't quit movies very often.
In fact, I've only walked out of one movie. The Aviator. Something about the Kate Hepburn and Leo scenes were just too much

I made it to roughly the 45 minute mark of Coppola's movie as it was truly horrendous... miscast, horrid writing, fracture storytelling, visually unimpressive, art direct was amateurish... and on and on.

I ALSO walked out of the Aviator.

Ive walked out on MANY more movies...

I wouldn't have watched Emilia Perez otherwise, but it is a Best Picture nominee so it was necessary. I've only seen Dune 2 and The Substance so far, so I'm way behind on my watching.

Your post is exactly what I felt. I don't know whether I liked it or not, but I think I did. I was really puzzled upon finishing it.

At least I liked it more than The Substance, which I thought was pretty bad.

I just watched The Aviator for the first time a few weeks back. Funny timing. I've never walked out of a theatre and I'd say I can't even remember the last time I didn't finish a film at home. The Aviator wouldn't have made me quit, but it was not very good.

I was scrolling through movies a few months ago and came across The Aviator. Didn't know that Scorsese directed it, so I was excited to see it after finding that out. That lasted for about 30 minutes, roughly the same amount of the time it took me to turn off The Great Gatsby.

Do you like the color better?

No... it is just different.
The presentation is slightly uneven and resembles a working copy of the film even though the film is complete, but I DO find it interesting to watch.

I have also seen Alexander Paynes Nebraska in color... and I feel that film did have an enhanced quality to it over the black and white theatrical release... I wish AP would authorize it's release, but he has said he would never allow it to see the light of day in the west.

Ok, I watched Better Man based on Dom's review. I actually do know Robbie Williams fairly well and like several of his songs, so I did have some interest in a biopic of his life, but the the trailer definitely made me nope out of it.

Really glad I watched it! Agreed that the chimp conceit took almost no time to accept, and all the musical numbers were great and perfectly timed. The Rock DJ scene especially was pretty epic. I generally hate musicals too, so this was a pleasant surprise.

Absolutely nothing on last night, came across The Beekeeper. Never seen a Jason Statham movie, I'll give it a try.

Even though it was about 15 minutes in, I was able to pick up the plot. 😉 Just what you'd expect, super-duper badass has someone get wronged, and wreaks revenge on those responsible.

Then, All The President's Men came on TCM, so watched some of that before bed. Even though we all know the outcome, still tense, great movie.

I watched ATPM also... and I doing so, I was taking aback by how bad the reporting actually was and how much hearsay they relied on to make their perconceived conclusions.

I remember going to see King Creole with all my 5th grade chums, and when the movie started they all yelled, **** it's in black and white, and I yelled Great it's in black and white! This is when I had my first inkling that my career as a movie critic was going to be, um... ... let's say, divergent.

I'm not in favor of capital punishment simply because I don't trust the government to implement it even handedly, but when the colorized version of Yankee Doodle Dandy hit TBS, I said, Yeah let's go ahead and fry somebody.

I am not a fan of colorized films either... I've never experienced one where it improved the IP.

But when the IP was originally made in color by the original creative team, I have to try and seek that out as a curiosity and as an edification to my cinematic experience.

Even in these modern times we have examples of this with both Godzilla: Minus One and Mad Max: Fury Road being offered up in Black and White and in Color.

Nothing Compares, a 2022 documentary of Sinead O'Connor, made before her death.

This was fantastic. Beautiful, emotional, and intimate look at O'Connor's life of trauma and her career. Narrated by O'Connor. Some really wonderful filmmaking here. Watching so many photos and video of O'Connor in one place leads me to come to the conclusion that young Sinead might have been the most photogenic person who has ever lived.

She was an extraordinarily beautiful creature.

Both The Monkey & Becoming Led Zeppelin were exactly what I was in the mood for:

A completely ludicrous over the top gorefest;

And a treasure trove of priceless, painstakingly restored archival footage, much of it never seen before, never mind the not known to have existed Bonham interview tapes. Jonesy was something of the star of the present day interviews imo and Page & Plant seemed happy to let him shine.

Odd thought I had near the end—even at their zenith Zep was still a bit of a cult band, in a way their four big contemporaries never were. Obviously they were widely hated (and envied) by the entire music industry for at least the first half of their run, though much of what they did is SOP today for the Taylors of the world.

RIP Gene.

I've never been a huge martial arts movie fan, but if you like John Wick, Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen type of stuff, this channel is a lot of fun....it's a stuntman channel!

this one has legendary B-movie action star, stuntman, and fight choreographer Scott Adkins. Good stuff. And I now have a huge man crush on him.
