Diesel is winning at the game of life. A dollar saved is a dollar in net income earned cause it's all about the net income on the year. A dollar earned but not saved adds nothing to your net income like those idiots that make 100k/year but save none of it.

In Rice's scorebook the only thing that matters is how much you save in the year. Money spent on actually living an enjoyable comfortable life doesn't count towards his scoring system whatsoever.
This is the only way he can rationalize it in his mind so that someone like himself is ahead of someone who hypothetically earns half a million but spends it all on house repayments, family vacations, regular meals at nice restaurants, new car, good quality food and clothing and medical etc

Yes Rice says how proud he was of himself for staying cool and never for a second believing that they had won the bad beat jackpot.
But then again, I don't think there's anything he does or says that he's not proud of himself for. Rice has always been a notoriously easy marker when it comes to impressing himself, and quite the opposite when it involves anyone else.

Where I'm from this is actually a thing, it's called weekend detention. The convict is free to live and work in society during the week but they must report to jail for the weekends.

ELD gives advice to treat the un sliced cheese pizza as a quesadilla. Notwithstanding that this violates the meaning of a pizza thus meant to be eaten in one layer only.

Rice is an interesting cat. Goes back to his law school to visit a few professors, despite being an utter failure (in the legal profession and, objectively, as a functional adult). What would that conversation look like? And why would a normal put themselves through that certain awkwardness?

I’ve always viewed this as an urban legend of the poker community. The story usually involves an older wealthy woman who is getting berated by a young, cocky kid. She then shows the kid her losing bad beat hand before shoving it deep into the muck.

It's funny you mention this guy; he popped into my timeline on a Las Vegas food challenge and ever since I watched it, he pops daily in my timeline, and I watch 1 or 2 of his challenges a day. He is a machine! lol

If I went to law school and didn't take the bar and wasn't a lawyer after graduating (he did right?) and all I have done for years was barely make minimum wage from poker to survive with some help from Mommy and Daddy, the last thing I would want to do is visit my old law professors on campus and have them ask me what I am doing now.

To the contrary he is proud of the choices he made and the life he lives. He looks down on people who have to work for a living while he is beating the system. That he has to live like a homeless tramp in order to survive doesn't bother him a bit, he just sees that as a credit to himself.
