Miniarchist, rightwing leaning libertarians want that power to be diffused though. They dislike uber-powerful federal armed forces. Ron Paul is in favor of cutting defense budget by half for example.Police is a local matter, and in an actually real federal system, police and state national guards are a counterveiling force to federal armed forces in case of a crazy evil dictato

I understand the theory and yeah, local forces like the national guard during the French revolution can theoretically oppose the national military, but that's not the way things work in the current USA and Trump and Elon are expanding federal control dramatically over state and local governments - trying to anyway.

But, again, that's theory. In real life and Ron Paul notwithstanding, most people who call themselves libertarians are the first to fund and deploy the stormtroopers.

Because of the technicalities involved with the validity of the decisions during that interim period.

Which, note well, is also why many/most (?) of the lawsuits have been dropped (by either the plaintiffs or by the judges' decisions) after the properly nominated heads re-affirmed many of the decisions.

Any thoughts on the absolutely insane TRO issued just now ordering agencies to rehire probationary employees after Gov submitted a sworn affidavit saying OPM never told agencies to fire the employees, then later withdrew the affidavit and refused to produce the author for testimony?

I didn't follow that i guess, but i wonder, why can't agencies just fire probationary employees at will without having to justify it full stop? they can't even do that?

Just because they can do it doesn't mean it's not horrifically stupid and would have foreseeable bad consequences that force these idiots to try to rehire the people they just fired.

This is quality work.

If they can do it, judges should have no say on that, given we are talking a judge ordered re-hiring probationary fed employees (that's what gto mentioned), I am asking how that is even possible no matter the merits

If you’re actually asking - no, you can’t just do that. There is specific legislation on the books explicitly saying you cannot. They have less protections and rights, but it’s not zero. So far, the Gov has agreed this is correct, which is what resulted in their “suspicious” behavior re: whether OPM forces the agencies to make the layoffs. Otherwise they would have just argued - we can do whatever the F we want like in the USAID payment thing.

They COULD have fired all the same people legally. For example, as you pointed out they could have waited a few months for the confirmed heads to come on board and make agency specific findings, make rules as to who would get let go, and then apply them in an orderly and documented fashion.

OR they could have actually had a performance review of each individual person, found they sucked, and let them go.

Probably would have cost fractionally more in time and money. But you know, chainsaw man gotta chainsaw.

I think it's more drama whore gotta drama

The non-profit I work for obtains the majority of its funding from federal grants we have a vested interest in this chaos.

The main director of our largest single federal grant is set to retire on 3/31 so his replacement was hired last July to get up to speed. Well, guess who was let go and now after 3/31 there won't be anyone in charge of the grant.

There are ways for DOGE to effect cuts that are productive and there are ways that aren't. Elon's method is solidly in the latter.

Elon Mush

Wow this is wild. So basically Elon is saying that public sector workers are worse than Hitler? Is that right?

Yes. An effective way of making MAGAts and Musk-fans support his alleged downsizing of government is to make them hate the programs that get cut, services that get shut down and people that get fired.

Of course, he is also promoting the falsehood that Hitler, Stalin and Mao did not murder millions of people. They were well aware of what they were doing and the orders they gave.

To promote this falsehood is likely the true purpose of the post.

The comment also lets volunteers and supporters of the hook. While soldiers, police, secret police and bureaucrats certainly played a role, much of the killings and terrors done was simply carried out by parties, groups and individuals who supported the ideas and people behind them. In the case of the Holocaust, it also lets collaborators and anti-Semites in other countries off the hook. The genocide of Jews and other Holocaust targets in Europe was often eagerly carried out by local collaborators who cooperated with Nazi occupiers.

He won't like this from a retired NASA astronaut very much lol

Guy who definitely didn't do a nazi salute twice also definitely did not post Hitler sympathetic bs on twitter.

Union rages after Elon Musk shares X post that ‘Hitler didn’t murder millions, public sector workers did’

‘Our nurses, teachers, firefighters, librarians ... are not, as the world’s richest man implies, genocidal murderers,’ fires back angry union president

Elon is an edgelord who would be a virgin incel living in his parents' basement if they hadn't been rich enough to allow him to gamble with their money (and happen to get lucky).

I guess that means he should Nazi salute them even harder than he did Trump.

lol that's pretty funny
