Political differences should sometime inflame, even if some weirdos think that's too polarising.

Being inflamed doesn't imply or defend bullying and badgering

but people complaining about all the bullying etc when they think that's the good approach to political discussion is amusing

That's mod privilege I guess.

Why are you constantly such a miserable bitch?

"I have to be this way now because Wookie made me mad a decade ago" isn't a particularly compelling argument to me.

coordi seems to be doing well, and unless I'm mistaken he doesn't seem too stressed out.

Rococo is mostly right that I don’t really care that much and that’s why thus far it’s been less stressful for me than others, probably. I can only assume how others feel and why.

I have found myself caring about post volume. I want the exchange of ideas to flourish as mod, but I don’t really care about people complaining.

I personally didn't find it be stressful at all. Nothing is at stake. I just found it to be annoying and not enjoyable.

Wookie was defo a bit drunk with power. You should have seen him over at UP. Trying to get rid of mod term limits and ****. IIRC there needed to be a poll on whether to have a meeting to set up an RFC to discuss having a vote to get rid of him or some such. Democracy at work!

by microbet m

Obviously this kind of thing is more true for some mods than others. For some though I think it's more like Shooting an Elephant.

I mean it's like

As always, the most amusing/ironic part of this discussion is that most of the posters complaining the mods aren't heavy handed enough here are members of spin off forums that are completely dead exactly because the mods are so heavy handed.

Wtf are you talking about? Which posters and what forums do you think they're members of?

by Rococo m

Every time a mod quits, it's a real chore to find someone take over. And each time someone agrees to be mod, that person usually regrets it within a few weeks. It must be the adrenaline overload. It's really too much to handle.

What a ****ing joke.

Something that happens sometimes is a person imagines that there are just a few people who are the problem and if only they were banned everything would be fine. And they imagine this problem is obvious to 95% of the posters and all those posters agree on who the few problem people are. And then when they become a mod it turns out what they were primarily wrong about was that there's nothing like agreement about who the problem posters are. Most people want banning and punishment, they just don't agree on who to punish.

by d2_e4 m

Lmao, my dude, you're the biggest perp of that here! Honestly surprised one of them hasn't snapped and powed you right in the kisser yet.

I guess Trolly thinks it's always ok to complain that mods don't ban enough people. Maybe he thinks it's reassuring. Cops probably like it when they hear someone say cops don't shoot enough people.

A couple of strange mod statements considering how positive I've been about the latest mod.

Talking of wookie, CN is very much from the wookie school of everything I have done has been correct except I should've been even harsher on certain people.

Some people never learn. They could look at the low number of bans since they stopped modding, and maybe take something from that, but nope of course not.

I hope your poker reads aren’t this shitty

I literally just drove by a bus stop where two cops had their weapons drawn and a perp liquidated on the ground. It's not in the news yet but if you don't believe me google police shooting on Scottsdale and Shea in Scottsdale AZ tomorrow.

?

Political differences should sometime inflame, even if some weirdos think that's too polarising.

polarization ebullied because for decades the thought police of gatekeepers made it basically impossible for actual controversial (to purported consensus view) ideas to be platformed.

ofc they kept existing in local niches and underground and that's where they got strength because they actually answered to some deep seated actual really important value differences among people.

now we are a bit on the other side of the pendulum with ******ed takes being platformed a tad too much by either party , but that's far healthier than functional censorship imho.

people with completely absurd takes like actual abolish the police (or prisons), or total denial of all vaccines efficacy and so on exist

You have a genetic need to drink wine?

as with the totality of all human (and animal) behaviors, there is a genetic propensity to alcohol consumption and more in general to appreciate psychotropic substances more or less yes.

alcohol digestion itself is very different for genetical reasons, as well as the management of the negative side effects at the same quantity consumed.

so basically yes for genetical reasons some people can draw much more benefits from alcohol (and nicotine and so on) than others.

same reason why you should be much more careful about your alcohol consumption if one or more of your grandparents died of alcohol related diseases early rather than if they all drank and reached old age and died of that.

I searched but couldn't find this.
**** the Scottsdale police also.
And the Tempe police.
Mesa police are ok.

Trolly mostly.

I haven't really kept up with all the spin off forums in the last year plus. I don't even remember all their names or who posts in them at this point, if anyone. If I am mistaken and they are high traffic with a lot of great discussion then consider my comment outdated.

None of that suggests a need to drink alcohol.

My question was more about which people. I thought about adding of you meant Trolly, because he's the only person you could have been talking about. The other people from little splinter forums who are posting here are against more moderation.

He's unsurprisingly made some weird posts about alcohol. They have been about how he has to drink a lot and you can't trust people who don't.

nobody said there is a "need", but life is pretty miserable without social drinking if you can handle it properly

In the 20 plus years I have been posting in these forums these are the only two who have given me bans. Two of the least popular MOD's.

BTW...Where is that Wookie guy at these days?

I don't think it is miserable but it is definitely better. If I wasn't serious about poker I would drink and would have a ton more fun.
