NBA 2025-26 Season Thread: THE NY KNICKS ARE CHAMPIONS! BING BONG!
Lettuce NBA!
and lettuce lol @ James Harden
If you factor in the fact LeBron should have won DPOY in 2013, his impact on both sides of the ball was amazing. LeBron would literally play positions 1-5 on offense And defense each game.
Marc Gasol won DPOY that year, and he wasn’t even 1st team all defense LOL.
What defensive impact does Jokic provide other than rebounding?
Are we talking about MVP or DPOY?
In any case, does being top 3 in steals count? You may have heard this one already, but how about also being top 3 in points, rebounds, and assists?
What impact does Shai provide other than scoring?
Finally, if we're going to take the award at face value. Who is most valuable?
Spoiler
OKC is 14-13 over the last 3 seasons without Shai (5-1 this season)
DEN is 11-17 over the last 3 seasons without Jokic (4-8 this season)
Arguing over MVP between two worthy candidates is like arguing between prime Jessica Alba and prime Scarlett Johannson.
You’d still give your middle nut to **** either one.
1 day off after an intense overtime game in which your best two players were both dinged up to play a much younger team that you have historical beef with and has zero expectations cause their season was so bad they fired their coach with two weeks left doesn’t sound great.
Bottom line, it’s one game where you’re like an 65-35 favorite at most.
This.
Anyone saying it was a good loss for the Warriors haven't seen them the last week or so. Desperately needed the week off. Also makes OKC first round (or not making it at all) live.
0-3 all time in the play-in.
Anyone who thinks it was a good loss doesn't know how to do math. I don't think the extra time off matters that much. It's just one game. And if you wanted to say that GS's chances with less rest against Houston are better than its chances with extra rest against the Lakers, I wouldn't necessarily agree, but I wouldn't argue much.
But there is no way that the increased odds of beating Houston as opposed to LA (if any) are significant enough to offset the risk of losing a one-game play-in.
I consume a lot of NBA Media and I haven't heard any noise that the loss was good for the Warriors? Where is that idea coming from?
Seems everyone understands it was a big game and a bad loss
Harrison Barnes is a legend forever and always

I think it was clearly a good loss for GS, get houston rd 1 if they can win on tuesdayMinn has a lot of depth and Lakers have no center so maybe Minn can just bully ball them some but Luka, LeBron, AR for shot creation/playmaking vs basically Ant/Randle seems like a big gap but maybe Lakers defensive personnel is bad enough that Minn can have a great offensive series similar to

Ok, what is the math then?
Detail out the entire West road for me based on winning/losing vs the Clippers and your win probabilities for each round, should be educational
At the very least you're going to comeback with "yeah the loss didn't hurt them much" and not "it was a big game and bad loss"
I actually don't think the Warriors chances against the Lakers are much different to Houston tbh. Warriors struggle with size in the middle. Houston has a tonne of that. That's offset by their experience. Lakers allow the Warriors to play Draymond at the 5 which is what they want.
Any math that gets them eliminated 10% or so of the time and another 30% or so vs OKC only makes it worse.
I know lol regular season and all, but this only happened a week or so back.

I just don’t know how people can hold strong opinions on any of the West matchups, bar OKC v #8. Every other series (including tonight’s play in game) is arguable either way at a minimum. I salute those who find conviction out of these matchups.

What math is this?
Warriors are about 73% to win tonight per markets

I am not going to work through all the math because I don't think it is necessary.
Scenario A: GSW is the six seed. GSW has to beat the Lakers, then the winner of Houston/LAC, and then OKC (or whoever) to win the west.
Scenario B: GSW has won the play-in and is the 7 seed. GSW has to beat Houston, then the winner of Lakers/Minnesota, and then OKC (or whoever) to win the west.
I see little to no difference in the odds of running the table in Scenario A or Scenario B. The main difference in the real world is that, because of the loss to LAC, GSW will reach Scenario B only 73% of the time. That additional risk obviously doesn't exist in the scenario where the GSW beat LAC and got the 6 seed.
7 v 8 and 9 v 10 is dumb. It should be 7 v 10 and 8 v 9, with the 1 seed having its choice of the play-in winners in the first round.
Tuned into the HAWKS playin game just in time to see a listless end of the first half,
And Shaq singing Say Goodbye to Yesterday while performing CPR on a plush Harry the Hawk doll.
Okie dokie then.

lol you don't see the difference in odds of being 55% in rd 1 vs being 35% in rd 1?
you can have unique opinions on the teams if you want i guess but people actually assign these teams value and then people bet on it and all that stuff has the lakers >>>>> houston and then if you win rd 1 you could face minnesota, in theory the inferior team
if you wanna say you disagree with that it is fine, but it isn't #math

I didn't see lines for a Warriors/Rockets series as opposed to a Warriors/Lakers series, but even if you numbers you cited above are exactly accurate, they aren't enough to make the play-in plus 7 seed a mathematically easier path to winning the West.
Brilliant game from Jimmy so far.

GS -200 vs Hou
so about 66% rd 1 now actually
Officiating was quite poor in both directions all game imo.
This was not an encouraging win for GS. Yes, Jimmy was brilliant, and he makes a big difference, but no one on this team except for Steph and Jimmy has enough confidence to take shots in crunch time. (Draymond contributes offensively, but not as a scorer.) Podz, Moody, and Post contribute offensively when the team is up 10 in the first half, but not often enough when things get tight at the end of games. And that means Steph and Jimmy get swarmed and have to make incredibly tough shots down the stretch for the Warriors to win tight games.
It would have been nice if Kuminga were able to be on the floor as a third scorer because he is willing and able to score no matter the situation. But the Warriors never really figured out how to integrate Kuminga with Butler, and now Kuminga is completely out of the rotation.
