Nice podcast Limon, loved it! I agree with a lot of your sentiments and love seeing you do an interview

I have to say I’m disappointed you have nothing but negative things to say about poker and the direction it’s gone. When tools became available for people to study the game, heaps of old school regs doubled down and learned from those tools and developed a deeper understanding of the game than was possible to before. Sure the games have gotten harder, but just because you chose not to try to be competitive in a tougher environment doesn’t mean that you should spend so much time exaggerating about how dead it all is and how impossible it is to make money just because the way you prefer it doesn’t exist anymore, and what you are describing just isn’t true, there is plenty of money to be made in poker.

There are thousands of guys making 6 figures+ playing poker, the edges are just smaller and it’s harder than it used to be. If you spent 2 months learning solvers you’d be making a better hourly online than you make in that live game, you just care not to! You come across as bitter towards the game that gave you and a lot of other people so much.

I wish you’d hold yourself to a different standard and see things from all perspectives regarding poker like you do a lot of other things.

Vegas has a way of constantly reinventing itself. Every time Vegas is “done” it comes back stronger. I’d never bet against Vegas even though I almost never go there anymore.

Every decision still goes through Warren. I think it will probably gap up compared to broad market until at least a year after buffet dies maybe more. The ship is too big to get off path.

Once buffet is long gone the new mgmt will start spending down that money and you will see Berkshire jump up and headlines like "Berkshire has finally unlocked trillion in value with bold moves". That's when you sell.

limon I'm moving up to the bay area after being an LA poker head for ~15 years.
where do I find good action in the bay? know you're an LA player too but thought you might be in the know.
preferably PLO or NLHE/PLO mix or something like Big O or PLO hi/low but pure NLHE is ok too.

I haven’t played there in a decade so not much help. You’re gonna go to bay 101 and lucky chances for sure so when you’re at those places ask the regs and they’ll tell you when/where the plo is.

Thoughts on Vegas Matt and his crew? I see lots of comments from gamblers saying that watching his videos scratches their itch to gamble, and ends up keeping them out of the casinos.

Bay Area is pretty much all NLHE all the time. PokerAtlas says that Lucky Chances (in Colma, just south of San Francisco) has a 5-10 PLO that runs once per week and an "occasional" 5-5 PLO game. Graton, a tribal casino just outside of Santa Rosa, has weekly 1-3 and 5-5 PLO games.

Good places to play NLHE: Bay 101 in San Jose, Lucky Chances in Colma, and the Oaks Card Club in Emeryville (effectively West Oakland) have good games. LC and Bay are the only places that spread NLHE at stakes higher than 2-3-5.

What was your job in finance, and for how long did you do it?

well it was several jobs, i worked my way up from auditor to director of credit and collections, to VP of finance building and implementing subprime credit models (like the ones that crashed the economy) lololol.

Man was out there building subprime bombs by day and check-raising fish by night.

Honestly respect the hustle.

I'm in kind of a midlife crisis. Do the **** you have done or - do my own thing. Although I don't know yet what my own thing really is.

For sure: Playing poker comes easy to me, and I had a freelancer job, but going back to a 9-5 job is so ****ing hard. I can't imagine.
Besides: I come from a family full of "entrepreneurs" - be it the successsful one who retired after 10 years of work, or be it the unsuccessful one who had 20 patents on his name but never made
a buck out of them.
I'm kind of: Why the ****k am I still accepting jobs I don't care about?

And it's also a "career" thing: if I accept jobs I don't care about and then quit - why would anyone hire me?

I think I am just not made for the 9-5.

But it's also a life thing: Do I really wanna do 9-5 the rest of my ****ing life?

So.... playing poker is actually kind of a liberation from the conventional wisdom that 9-5 is all there is. (That's in Europe. In the States it might be different. That's why I love them apart from all the other ****.)

Don't be too impressed. Banks are notorious for inflating their titles. Like half of their employees are VP level, lol.

I guess is anything major going to change on the front end, like what games are going to stream or the marketing or video production/editing or branding, etc or is it mostly back end stuff?
