Yeah I'd agree that's exactly how it should be. Wasn't talking damages from a civil suit. Where I'm from (Australia) the guy who throws that punch is almost certainly up for criminal assault charges by the police. They don't even need the "victim" to press charges if they have enough evidence.

Trooper not being a high stakes crusher or even a mid stakes player probably makes some people want to support him even more.
I think there is an appeal to some people to support a regular guy in the Main and hope he makes a deep run.

I'm fine with people saying they don't mind gambling on this bumkin even if it's -ev.
But when he has people buying action who think he's a pro when his results are pathetic then he's scamming them. When he says crap like "nobody tried harder than me" while putting in zero work to improve his game ever, turning down free coaching etc. then he's scamming them. Frankly I think most people who sell action are pretty dishonest. They should at least be giving their results for the last 5-10 years to people interested in buying. But they like to take advantage of the ignorance of their investors.

I think his supporters just want to bet on him to be a part of the event and the excitement, and hopefully he runs deep and they get a small return on their money. They feel like they know him, so it's like supporting a friend. They don't care that he's not a successful poker pro. They know it's a gamble.

He doesn't have any clue about tournament poker. No idea of ranges, stack size, etc. He doesn't work on his game, doesn't use any feedback. He knows it all and can't break even at 1/2. Yet people will send him their money? It's crazy. He sat in 10/20 and had no idea what to do.
