I can only say I am a victim of the Bavarian grammar school system, I was even in a math-science branch, but nevertheless we were mostly busy analyzing every brainfart of the ancient Germaniacs Goethe and Schiller along with some almost ancient ones like Max Frisch, while almost completely ignoring all non-Germaniac literature. Exceptions were MacBeth and 1984. I guess that's why we Germans tend to like techno so much, cos everyone just shuts up and nobody says a word, or at most very few.
