The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

Oh I thought that it may have an effect on the cars we drive and folks going to more economical vehicles but folks did not If you need a truck for work you can’t make that change at all . As well you can turn down the thermostat a degree or two but you have to heat your house Inflation has raised the price of food as well but you need to feed your family ok maybe you don’t get

Thx !
So u agree it tight climate changes then -> by changing behaviour , go.

But did it made massive changes , no !
Vast majority of people didn’t felt a thing because it was for the majority till neutral cost , like how many times Joe died on the hill trying to explain it to you ….

The cost wasn’t significant and long enough for to see massive changes despite but he would have eventually if it would stay on .

So please stop saying tax of any kind are useless …

I said the consumer carbon tax had little to no effect on changing folks behavior and it was more of a income redistribution program .

Ok. Is progressive taxation bad?

Yes I believe in a flat tax .

by lozen

Yes I believe in a flat tax .

Isn't progressive taxation consistent with the ideologies of a Social Democracy, which seems to be where Canada lies on the continuum?

Lol. Ok let's see how far this dissent into madness goes. Do you believe society should support disabled children?

The rich

still aren’t wealthy enough and dont extract enough value from the economy compared to the majority of society , let’s give them even more .
Let’s make even bigger deficits.
Let’s double down with trickle down economy , one of the biggest failure in economic theory .

Flat tax ftw ….

flat tax regimes can be progressive, if they have a meaningful tax-exempt threshold.

Example, 30% flat tax over 30k/year.

You pay 0 from 0 to 29.999 per year.

You pay 15% at 60k per year.

You pay 20% at 90k per year.

You pay 27% at 300k per year.

You pay "very very close" to 30% at 1M per year (or more).

See? very progressive.

Well I don’t see much of a flat tax in your description but a basic progressive taxation model ?

Back onto Canadian crude and where it is going.. Diversifying our exports seems like the way to go. Now if only we could get a pipeline west to east..

Of course and disabled Adults that require it as well. I have no clue how individuals survive on AISH ( Alberta Program) I also support assistance for single parents and daycare and the NDP's dental care program .

I believe in a hand up not a hand out

That will never happen under the current Quebec leadership

Guess you are wrong again, and again , and again ….

https://www.ctvnews.ca/montreal/article/...

Quebec Premier François Legault remains open to pipeline projects in response to the tariff war led by Donald Trump, arguing he senses growing openness among Quebecers.

He even mentioned a potential project that would pass through the northern part of the province and end at the port of Sept-Îles.

LMAO I haven’t seen the anarcho-capitalists on this forum in a loooong time.

isn’t this all redistributing wealth from the haves to the have nots?

by uke_master

isn’t this all redistributing wealth from the haves to the have nots?

Well yes by the form of a personal tax . We don’t collect a forest fire tax and than rebate it to disabled children

We need to always help out the less fortunate but also weed out the abuse .

by lozen

Well yes by the form of a personal tax .

So you want a “personal” tax that redistributes wealth from the haves to the have nots. Is this not EXACTLY what progressive income tax does?

Why do you think Canada would be better if the rich were taxed less and the poor taxed more?

Because the rich knows how to treat the poor better then the government of course.
We all know how corruption and self interest is almost non existent with them….

Remember before the existent of governments how well kings and nobles were taking such good care to the rest of the population ……

Weird I remember a few pundits saying the carbon tax did not contribute to inflation

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/in...

And again were did I come up with this crazy idea EV sales are dropping or slowing down

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/money/topstori...

Mark Carney had a better idea than budgets balance themselves to just do not have a budget . He changed his tune on that one quick

Lol lozen gets totally confused - again.

Ya bud when the carbon tax contributes about 0.1% to inflation YoY but does that consistently since 2019 taking those years of prices off in one swoop contributes an anemic 0.6% one time effect. This is absolutely consistent with what the researchers like Trevor Tombe that I've linked before said, what I said, and points out the absolute lie of Poilievre and most of the CPC who pathetically tries to suggest that a high portion of inflation and food inflation specifically (way up this report!) was due to carbon taxes. Nope, all those years all combined into one gets you barely a blip.

Is it time to admit Poilievre lied?

The end of the consumer carbon price at the start of April drove inflation down sharply, Statistics Canada said Tuesday, but there were signs of pressure building at the grocery store.

The only person that lied was Justin that 8 out of 10 got more back than they paid

Did you fail to understand Trevor Tombe's point or did you deliberately ignore it?

The cumulative effect of 5 years of increases on the order of 0.1% percent per year to inflation when all taken away in a single shot leaves a paltry one time 0.6% YoY drop in inflation that you probably didn't even notice as your grocery bill went up over 3% in that same time period. This is consistent with the carbon tax being a very very very small driver of the large annual 2%+ inflation we have seen over the last several years and every politician that LIED and suggested a huge portion of grocery price inflation was due to carbon tax has now been disproven.

Can you call the lie out for what it is without a whataboutism (of justin accurately quoting the PBO)?

Trumps golden dome missile shield, 175 Billion and operational in 3 years, Canada wants to be part of it and will pay their share... Sure we agreed to pay.. Kinda like Mexico paying for Trumps wall.. Hogwash, the guys a real looney..
https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/golden-dom...

Sadly poilievre is still lying. He hasn’t realized that the cumulative effective of removing five years of carbon taxes only removed a paltry 0.6% once - far less than his “tax the farmer who grows the food and tax the shipper who moves the food” type rhetoric would ever imply.

Yet he still lies. Current price increases in food jumping are far more about things like global food prices and counter tariffs than about monetary expansion due to deficits. It’s lies on top of lies

Maybe it's easier to put it this way: the carbon tax is gone. Does anyone look out at the economy and think, hey **** is really affordable now? Noone? Not anyone?

The carbon tax wasn't the source of affordability problems and removing it isn't the cure of affordability problems.
