The fundamental problems are the same that have existed for the entire conflict.
Hamas priority is ensuring they remain rulers of Gaza, at all costs.
And Israel and the US are committed to a Future with no Hamas.

and yes, that is the cost of doing business when a country runs an illegal blockade on 2 million people. the only reason that you are so worked up about 1200 deaths of mostly soldiers patrolling a siege, many at the hands of Israel itself, is bc you have so internalized the Supremacy of the West over the native people of West Asia and elsewhere.

They are, and will be, completely disinterested in doing the actual work to make this happen.
Trump just wants a shiny trophy for free, which he will not get.

If Israel were serious about disarmament, they'd have come up with proposals for staggered disarmament already.
A complete disarmament overnight is tantamount to surrender and, worse, politial (and potentially actual) suicide as they'd not be able to fend themselves against other Palestinian rivals. Besides, what people (myself included) have been calling "Hamas" is really a collective of Hamas militants, Islamic Jihad, and other smaller orgs. It is not clear at all Hamas has the capability to disarm even its own members, much less associated groups.
A serious "disarmament" proposal would take that into account and have elements of power sharing between Israel and Hamas to enforce disarmament over time, effectively turning Hamas into what PLO has become in the West Bank.
I am saying this while fully agreeing with the premise that Israel and Hamas' end goals are mutually incompatible.
