If American "libertarianism" was a serious political movement, this would be its moment to shine. However, it isn't a serious movement, it is just a lazy label of convenience. Depending on the specific topic, american states can often have MORE latitude in deciding differently among themselves than european countries have.
Take VAT (value added taxes), a major gvmnt revenue source for EU countries. Did you know all contries are mandated to have a VAT, with minimum thresholds, and mandatory exemptions for specific product cathegories? american states instead are completly free to decide whether to have a sales tax or not and how high and exempting what exactly and so on.
