What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.
Brag: Shot 80 today on my home course (par 72) - I'm a 12 hand
TBE, there must be a quick four or five stroke swing for the better if you just reduced those three jacks.is there a trend? are you playing courses with huge greens and find yourself 40 feet away on the first putt and can't get down from distance, or maybe you are yaking the close ones, possible bothjust trying to better understand your struggles before offering my unrequested
Currently my problem is EVERYTHING involving the putter, but I'd bet that speed is my biggest issue of all big putting issues. I cannot lag any putts from over 30 feet to within 5 feet, and I can't make anything over 30 inches. I feel like I'm constantly hitting greens but end up being 40 feet away.
I've got a few colleagues who are golfers and even golf coaches who have given me some drills to do, so I'm in good hands. I've just got to go practice, but unfortunately when I have free time I'd rather go play. Work slows down a lot for me in the next few weeks, so the chipping/putting green will be getting some visits.
There are definitely strokes to be shaved off, mostly from the putter but a few from chipping. It's those strokes that keep bringing me back. No reason I can't be a 9-10 handicap. Off the tee I'm very solid (at least now) and my approaches are decent. My swing and tempo are good. When I get frustrated I have to remind myself I've played 40 rounds in the last 9 months, but also 40 rounds in the last 12 years. It won't all be good immediately. I'll be better by summer's end.
may i suggest you get yourself a five foot putting strip from a common web dropship shop and do putting drills on the living room floor either morning or evening while watching amazing tv
another hint is to never think of your effort as lagging
instead aim toward a range somewhere between dead weight and a yard longer
also choke down a titch if you want to remove an inch
one other reminder
written history eternal of make it or lose victory is undefeated against a short putt
46-46-92. No birdies, 5 double bogeys. 69.2/126/6020.
Bad.
48 on 36.3/132 3500 yards after insisting my playing partner play from the back tees.
Made a quad 8 after I laid up short of a penalty area and then duffed my second shot right into it. Otherwise got around fine and leaked some shots around the greens.
Differential 22.2, GHIN to 20.8
New course. Par 72 (70.1, 126, 6200 yards)
+27 99 (48/51)
6/14 fairways, 6/18 greens.
3 pars.
Hit 2 drives on par 5s into hazards.
Had 2 whiffs.
0 1-putts
11 3-putts for 47 putts.
Terrible.
Back to the above course. 2nd time ever playing it.
88 (+16) 43/45
1 birdie, 5 pars, 9 bogeys, 2 doubles and a quad.
5/14 fairways, 7/18 greens.
2 1-putts, 4 3-putts, 38 putts all day.
Greens here are really tough. Played with 2 guys from work who play a lot, and both said they won't be back. They hate the greens.
can the damage be contributed to a specific part of your game or was it just one of those days?
perfectly fine either way
One of those days. Ball striking even worse and more inconsistent than usual, putting unusually bad. I had at least six up and down chances where I chipped or pitched it to four feet or less and I converted one.
Have shot +19,+19,+13,+17, +17 this year at this Par 72 36/36 70.3 124 6200 yard course.
87 (+15) 44/43
3/14 fairways, 7/18 greens.
5 pars, 11 bogeys, 2 doubles.
4 1-putts, 3 3-putts.
Both doubles were on scorable par 5s. Putting is much improved, but 3-putt bogeyed both 17 and 18. Bleh.
21 rounds in this season so far.
42-40-82. No birdies, 1 double bogey. 67.8/126/5573
Pretty much the complete opposite of yesterday, everything was comfortable. Didn't really miss a full shot until 13 and even that wasn't a big deal. It was nice to have a swing for once.
A little unlucky to end up with no birdies, I had at least four really good looks from inside 8 feet. Poor job reading the greens, I re-putted several* and made them once I had the line.
* I almost never re-putt or do other stuff that slows things down but holy **** was this a slow round. 5 hours and 15 minutes, waiting on every. single. shot.
45 from 3275 yards on 35.3/132.
Phenomenal ball striking day, hit 7/7 fairways, 3 greens, 3 fringes. 20 putts.
Managed to 3-putt twice from inside 15 feet (two of the GIRs). Made three doubles that killed the score- first hole hit a wedge to rough behind the green, poor chip to 30 feet, 3 putt. Fourth hole, took 5 strokes to get down from the greenside bunker I found in 2 on a par 5, and on the 8th I lost the ball on a long par 3 (hit into lateral hazard, took stroke and distance, hit to 7 feet and 2 putts for 5).
Long game is really coming along. Now begins the long process of sorting out the short game.
Differential 20.3. This round pushed out a sub 20 differential from late last season; ghin increases back to 20.9.

If I can see the group in front of me is still on the next tee box AND the group behind me isn't ready to hit yet, you better believe I'm hitting some chips and putts.

Same course as above. 15-20 mph winds.
+11 thru 11 with 0 1-putts and 3 3-whacks, 2 from inside of 17 feet. Awful.
We blew thru the first 9 in 1:40, but after the turn it slowed down a ton and was going to take at least 2:20, and the rain was coming. I cut bait after taking 4 to get down from 40 feet away on the back fringe on 11 for double. Hope to play the other 7 some night after work this week.

might be time to consider exploring your opportunities on the member|guest circuit.
peak time for an hc to plummet and we all know you got it in ya

Hit 8/9 fairways before pulling the plug. Driving the ball is not the issue.
41 (par 36). 1 birdie, 1 double bogey.
Perfectly fine for Tuesday night golf. Did a lot of chipping, decided to use the 52 tonight and it worked better than usual.
Sent off the back. I hate that. Low 70s with 5-10mph wind. Very nice day.
90 45/45
6/14 fairways, 5/18 greens.
3 1-putts, 2 3-putts. 35 all day. (Lipped out a 20 footer for birdie in there that finished a maddening 3/4 inch from the hole.)
1 eagle, 4 pars, 9 bogeys, 3 doubles and a quintuple.
Quintuple was uphill 370 yard par 4 (1) short C- drive that found the left rough which let me with 5-iron in, (2) B- 5-iron slight chunk to an uphill green that found a downhill slope in the left front bunker. (3,4,5) in the bunker (6) over the green (7-9) I pick up in disgust. (In my defense, my wife had just texted that her car needed yet another $1,400 in repairs. That's $8k in the last 10 months. Hence, quintuple.)
Eagle was 3 holes after quint (went par, bogey in between) (1) A- drive down the left side (A+ is on the right), (2) 235 yard 3-wood draw around a small dog leg to 30 feet past the hole (got lucky it clipped a few leaves as it drew around the turn.....knew I should have hit 5-wood but I'm allowed to get lucky on occasion) and (3) buried the putt I started to believe when it got about 5 feet from the hole, then down she went.
Playing nearly every day in the next week, but not tomorrow.
47-42-89. 1 birdie, 3 double bogeys, 1 triple bogey. 68.6/125/5815 yards.
Got off to a great start - hit a perfect drive on the first hole and then everything went sideways, nice triple jackass. It took until 14 to figure out the swing, played somewhat decent the last five holes including the birdie, knockdown driver on a long par 3 to 2.5 feet.
Never played here before. Nice weather (low 70s, 5-10mph wind), but rain/lighting pushed through after 14 so we took a 1.25 hour break.
Par 71(35/36) 6080 yards 69.1/130
90 47/43
9/14 fairways, 4/18 greens.
5 pars, 9 bogeys, 2 doubles and 2 triples.
4 1-putts, 1 3-putt, 1 4-putt 35 putts all day.
Very nice course. Probably the nicest I've played all year. Fast greens. Made a 4-putt triple on #1. Made triple on #10 as well.
Hit irons very poorly. 3 of the 1-putts were tap-ins after brilliant wedge shots that followed poor irons & wedge shots. Other 1-putt was 15 foot par save.
Tomorrow playing a course again for the first time in 14 years.
45-43-88. No birdies, 4 double bogeys. 70.3/133/6100.
The usual inconsistency. Had a couple bad bounces that left me with backhanded/left-handed shots only. Lost several shots to atrocious sand play. Made a stellar zero putt double bogey. Other than that, it wasn't too bad.
Chose to play a course I know well but haven’t played yet this year instead.
Par 72 (35/37) 70/129 6,200 yards
96 (49/47)
1/14 fairways, 4/18 greens
7 pars, 2 bogeys, 6 doubles, 2 triples and a quad.
3 1-putts (all long par putts), 4 3-putts and a 4-whack. 39 putts all day.
Everything was off. Round to forget.
As terrible as it was, I still shot 96 on a tough course. 10 months ago I’d have been thrilled to break 100. All is not lost.

Finished the above round today. (Played the final 7 +6 with 15 putts.)
89 44/45
12/14 fairways, 7/18 greens.
4 3-putts. 40 putts total. Brutal.
25 rounds so far this season. 92 average score.
1 eagle
15 birdies
110 pars
183 bogeys
108 doubles
35 others
37.0 putts/round
really liking your attitude Easy
as for you Booker, perfect description of my game
49 (par 35). No birdies, 5 double bogeys.
At least it was the entertaining kind of awful.
