Day 10 - Tuesday June 17th

Did a lot of walking this morning for my exercise rather than swimming. The main reason being I went to get a haircut.

Went to a place called Kutz barbershop on Dean Martin (forgot to take a picture) The cut was $45 which is 5x what I pay back home but better than paying hotel or strip prices.

Got a close up look at the Death Star on my walkabout. Note to self. Need to visit during football season and see a game there.

And also Luxor.

Before arriving at Aria for their HORSE tournament prior to which I met up with Dogface and TJ.

I started okay increasing the 30k starting stack to 39k at the first break and then pretty much didn’t win a hand after that. I bust the first bullet just before the end of late reg and fired a 2nd on which I literally did not win a single hand.

I bust around 5pm so had two hours to kill before the landmark satellite for the $10k HORSE that I wanted to play so as I was at Aria went for Jean George’s for dinner.

Bone-in ribeye was pretty good.

Maybe some ice cream will bring on some run good?

I thought it had as over at the Horseshoe in the satellite we were doing okay. In these landmark says you start with 15k and need to 10x it to get a seat.

Tonight we we’re playing for 13 seats and had increased to 40k when we played the following O8 hand at 2k-4k limits

I open the button with A45Jds
The BB 3 bets, I call.
Flop: 2-3-J with two diamonds. (We have J flush draw)
BB bets, we raise, BB calls.
Turn: 9 off suit
BB checks, we bet, BB calls.
River: 3 off suit.
Check, check.

We flopped the world and missed everything. I checked back the river as we have showdown value with the AJ and if he had an overpair he would call anyway.

Threes full he says. WTF?

His had was A23Q no diamonds

WTF is he calling the flop and turn with. Bottom two pair no draw?

So that was 1/3 of our stack gone and we never recovered.

On deck for tomorrow

Haven’t decided yet. 3 possible options.

A) Cash game day
B) WSOP $1,500 PLO
C) Nugget $400 mix triple draw

Leaning option C as it will be good practice for the WSOP mix triple draw on Thursday but will make final decision tomorrow.

Day 11 - Wednesday June 18th

We did indeed opt for option C. We chose to play a mixed triple draw practice round downtown at the Golden Nugget today to shake off any cobwebs on our triple draw game.

But we can’t go downtown without checking in at Circa first.

There wasn’t anything that I wanted to bet today but I do have a play for tomorrow, although Circa wasn’t offering a line for it.

Across the street at the Nugget, and it isn’t called the Golden Nugget for nothing.

Onto the tournament and we were going pretty good, having increased the 30k starting stack to 70k, but then came the downward spiral.

We bricked A23 and A24 draws in Badugi while our opponents made their hands. Then in 2-7, villain made a 7 on the last draw against our made 8-7 when the limits were big.

I hate 8-7’s. Obviously you can’t break them while your opponent is drawing, then when they bet into you on the end you pretty much always have to pay off in case they’re snowing.

But we got 13 levels of practice in which should stand us in good stead for the WSOP version of this game tomorrow with a much bigger buy-in.

They did give us a dinner break, but only 40 minutes. Not enough time to have a proper meal. Either give a proper 1 hour dinner break or don’t give any at all imo. Anyway, we grabbed a sammich back across the street at Circa.

Also bumped into BigWhale who was playing the nightly 6pm tournament.

We left Fremont street as the sun was going down and the lights were beginning to take effect.

Hopefully the poker run bad won’t extend to sports as we have a play for tomorrow in Colombia soccer.
There’s not really much to play for here. Medellin are already in the final and will be resting several players and I expect America to want go finish strong in front of their own fans.

America de Cali -115 represents a 53% chance to win. I made it between 60-65% in this scenario with Medellin resting players.

Bet this back at the Horseshoe when I went to check in on the cash games. There was no 5-5-10 Big O and only 1 table of 50-100 Stud 8 with 5 names on the list and I couldn’t be bothered waiting so heading back to MGM.

Day 12 - Thursday June 19th

We start the day as we usually do. At the pool.

Before heading to Paris for today’s mixed triple draw tournament.

Before we take our seat I check the line on the soccer game we bet yesterday. America is now -170 which represents 63% which is exactly where I said it should be.
So we killed the closing line which is half the battle, but only half unfortunately. They don’t let you cash the ticket just for beating the number. It has to win as well. Unfortunately it didn’t. The game ended in a tie 1-1. Running bad on sports now too [emoji30]

Onto the tournament. We need to multiply these and navigate them into a bag.

Easier said than done. Our 35k starting stack was down to 20k in short order, but it was a very loose table and I was confident I could get them back ……. until I got moved table [emoji30] to this murderers row.

Brian Yoon, Nicolas Milgrom and David Funkhouser. Nice. Not.

I got it back up to 30k then started going in the wrong direction again. Meanwhile Milgrom was hitting everything. He was playing every hand, often starting with garbage, but he somehow always hit.

One example against me. I started drawing one to A24 in badugi. He started drawing 3 and made a 9 badugi on the last draw while I never improved.

We eventually bust and contemplated not taking the option of the 1 allowed re-entry and waving the white flag, but in the end we went YOLO and fired again.

The 2nd bullet started in the same vain as the first and we were quickly down to 15k when the key hand of the day played out in Badugi.

We open with a one card draw to 234. An older guy 3 bets, we call along with one other caller.

1st change: We draw 1. (We don’t improve) 3rd player draws 2. Old guy stands pat. Old guy bets, call, call.

2nd change: We draw 1 and make a Queen badugi. Old guy stays pat. 3rd player takes one. Old guy bets, 3rd player calls and now we have a decision to make. We have 2 bets left. We raise all-in. Old guy just calls as does the 3rd player.

3rd change: We’d already made our decision by raising all-in. We’re going to pat our Queen and hope the old guy breaks. Bad news. He doesn’t. 3rd player draws one.
I’m all-in, they go check-check.

Showdown: I say to the old guy you’re probably good, I’ve got a queen. Queen what? He asks.
BOOM, now I know we’ve got him and table our Q432. He had a worse queen and just like that we’re up to 45k

You know it’s going well when you’re the one doing the color-up. 70k at the end of late reg.

Soon after we start back up out table breaks and we find ourselves at this new table:

Our old friend Mr. Hellmuth, along with Chainsaw.

The first two orbits I raise Helmuth’s big blind form the cutoff and he lets it go. I also raise a hand from the button and get no callers.

Soon after I raise again in A-5 and this time get a caller. When I take 3 Helmuth laughs and says so you do raise every hand with anything. I think he thought I was a tight player or something.

But I’m not the one that’s got Hellmuth talking to himself. It’s the young Japanese girl to my left that’s taking all his chips and eventually busts him.

We survive the last two hours without further incident to bag a slightly above average stack.

We’ll be coming back to 4,000 - 8,000 limits so that gives us 17 big bets.

We still need to lose 65 players before we’re in the money. We walk back to MGM stopping in at Canes again for supper.

If someone can do my table re-draw homework again that would be great thanks. BringBackMo?

Provided I have this right, looks like you have larryb2727 and David Funkhouser from yesterday. Then there will be David Prociak, a two time bracelet winner (Badugi and Stud HiLo, 3 counting online) who is the current chip leader of the event. The last seat is Thomas Mühlöcker, with over 10 million in winnings and 150 on the Hendon Mob all time money list! He seems to be primarily a holdem player though, don't see any other kind of cashes.

3/5 of the table will be Davids 😃

Prociak - 3 mil in lifetime earnings. Won 1500 limit badugi bracelet last year, won 2016 stud8 bracelet. Tons of cashes in both Holdem and non holdem games.

Muehloecker - 10.6 mil in lifetime earnings. Plays the high rollers. I don't see any cashes in non holdem events.

Funkhouser - 1.3 mil in lifetime earnings. Won the 2024 $1500 2-7 bracelet. Lots of non holdem cashes.

Berg - 800k in lifetime earnings. Lots of smaller cashes in holdem and non holdem, best was 125k in 2016 $1500 dealers choice for a bracelet.

Larry I played with yesterday and have also played cash with him so know his game.

Funckhouser played with a little yesterday.

The No Limit guy I’m not familiar with but if he’s winning high rollers then we have to show him respect.

Prociak is an excellent mixed games player and especially draw games so we’ll have to be very wary when we tangle with him. He’s in the Chainsaw poker club as well so have played with him online.

All in all a tricky table but it’s day 2 of a bracelet event. There aren’t any easy tables. Adjust, adapt, survive. Oh and if we can make some hands that would be nice as well [emoji3]

Day 13 - Friday June 20th

I’ll get right into the action as we had a roller coaster day.

We re-start the Mixed Triple Draw in the silver section of the events centre.

I love playing in the events centre, you can almost feel the history, with all the banners of past champions on the wall.
And not least because it’s not nearly as cold as playing in Paris ballroom.

We start the day with 137k in chips playing 4k - 8k limits.

Table break order is low to high and our original table was the 2nd to break so we don’t play much on it. We get moved to one of the highest numbered tables so this will be our home for most of the day, like it or not.

Phil Sternheimer, Jerry Wong and Chris Klodnicki all notable to be wary of.

Not long in, Sternheiner tries to bluff us on the end in badugi but we make the call with a good 3-card to pick him off.

We win a 2-7 hand with 8-6 vs Jerry Wong in a button vs big blind battle. He doesn’t call us on the end.

Then we lose with 8-7 vs Klodnicki who made an 8-6 on the last draw in what would become one of many SB vs BB battles against him.

We’re sat on 159k on 1st break. Avg. 180k 90 players left.

Sternheimer busts soon after the first break and is replaced by Ben Yu who already has 8 cashes this year.

We make a 9 dugi first change and hold vs the Egyptian guy Ahmed Mohamed.

Nearing the bubble now and you can hear the clatter of empty racks when they break a table which is music to our ears.

On our table Jerry Wong is short. We’re the button to his BB and are opening wide applying the pressure when it’s folded to us.

It doesn’t always work though. We open this in 2-7 from the button with the intention of snowing but Klodnicki 3-bets and Wong 4-bets so we get out of the way.

Hand for hand on the bubble now.

We lose a big one vs Ben Yu in A-5. He starts off taking 3 and makes a wheel last change to beat our 7.

Still in A-5 and lose another one vs Klodnicki. Last draw we both take 1. We make 23458 and have to pay off his 6.

We’re one of the shorter stacks now and still on the bubble.

Still in A-5 we make a wheel against Teach but he doesn’t pay us off on the end.

The bubble bursts on another table and we’re In the money.
Now playing 8k-16k limits we have 120k so 7 big bets. Avg. Is 232k

We then win a big 3-way 2-7 pot as reported by Pokernews:

After the 2nd draw I had a ten and thought about keeping it but eventually decided against it.

The $10k HORSE final table is also being played with Scott Seiver, Jason Mercier and Alex Livingston.

Level 17: 10k-20k limits.

Make #1 in 2-7 against Teach and get paid off.

Teach gone. John Monnette fills his seat.

Knocked out a short stacked Japanese player in A-5. We both draw 1 on the last draw. We have A234 and catch the 5 for the wheel.

Make 8 perfect badugi against Monnette and get paid off.

Level 18: 12k - 24k limits.

Make 8-7 in 2-7 battle of the blinds vs Klodnicki. He tries to bluff us on the end. We call and are good.

Made a 7-5 against Klodnicki in A-5. Won 2 in a row now against him.

Lose one to Monnette in A-5. We open from the button with A35, he 3 bets from BB, we call.
First change: 1-2. He bets we call.
2nd change: 1-2. He bets. We fold as still not improved.

But it was a really good two hours and we go to dinner break on 615k

After dinner, level 19: 15k - 30k limits

In 2-7 I open 257 from the button and Klodnicki 3 bets.
1st draw: 1-2, he bets, we call.
2nd draw: pat, 2, he bets we fold with no improvement.

Still in 2-7 we brick a 2347 draw vs Ben Yu.

Then we get dealt a 8-6 pat and Aron Dermer made #1 on the last change.

So in the 6 hands of 2-7 immediately after dinner we’ve lost half our stack and are down to 300k

We win one of Klodnicki in badugi. He tried to bluff on the end and we called with a 3 card 6 which was good.

30 left now. We have 420k. Avg. 540k

Chip leader Mark Klecan joins the table with 1.3 million.

Level 20: 20k-40k limits. We have 350k. Avg. 580k

We knock out a short stack in 2-7 making a 7-6 to go back up to 450k

Lose one vs Klecan bricking 2345 in A-5

Win a badugi vs Klodnicki. We raise him after 2nd change and he folds.

Last 4 tables now. 24 left. Avg is 675k we have 475k

Called on the end with a King in 2-7 vs Klecan and was good. Last hand before break.

720k last break of the night. Back above avg. still 24 left

Notables still in are Benny Glaser, Chino Reem, David Bakes Baker, James Woods, Johanes Becker and Yuval Bronshtein.

Level 21: 25k - 50k limits

Down to 450k. Brick a 2467 draw in 2-7. Avg is 780k 21 players left

Down to 300k brick a 2345 draw in A-5

Start of level 22 (last level of night) 400k playing 30k - 60k limits. 20 players left. Avg. 810k

Then came the straw that broke the camels back as reported by Pokernews:

Yu opened the button with air as he was doing a lot. We 3-bet from the SB with A35. We made the 7532A on the 2nd change and bet it.
If we hold we have 800k and are right back in it.
He draws 1 last change and makes the 6 which we have to pay off.

That left us short and we were unable to recover.
After having secured the pay jump by being in the last 17 and with only 120k left we chose to gamble rather than coming back to 40k - 80k limits tomorrow and being in the big blind first hand.

I actually had a chance to triple up on the last card. This time I did squeeze it and it was a 3-sider which meant a 6, 7 or 8. Only a 6 would do and unfortunately it was an 8. GG.

We gave it our all and came up just short. I can only hope the poker gods will give us another chance to go deep this series.
