That doesn't make any sense. Parents indoctrinate their kids into literal cults and you guys think thats their right even if down the line their kids will ultimately reject that indoctrination and disown their family. We indoctrinate kids with the national anthem and thats okay because national pride is considered benefitial to society. So parents can **** up their kids becaus

I don't think parents should indoctrinate kids into cults.

I think singing the national anthem is creepy and a waste of time.

I'm certainly not against teaching children tolerance. If done correctly they should be able to extrapolate what that means and who it applies too. They shouldn't be given a coloring book pointing out one or two marginalized people.

Can you elaborate on this? What makes recycling plastics a scam?

overwhelming majority of plastic sent to recycling centers doesn't actually get recycled

it's far cheaper to just make new plastic

in fact the entire "recycle logo" thing on it is all a scam, they print that for marketing, because there was a moment when american consumers wouldn't buy that brand of soap if they didn't think the bottle could be recycled - it technically can be recycled, so they put the logo on it, but it never will be as it'll cost 13 cents to recycle vs 3 cents to make a new one

majority of plastics are accepted simply because it's easier to collect it all, sort through the few valuable pieces and toss the rest than to deal with karens all day complaining about them not recycling the plastic

recycling programs are generally loss leaders for local communities anyway so they aren't really designed with efficiency in mind

You caught me. I tried to edit it out because it was a needless pot shot

You misread my post. Kids should learn to be tolerant of all people. I am opposed to teaching kids to hate. I am also opposed to denying visceral feelings about anything. If you think something is gross then who am I to argue with you. If you dislike something who am I to argue with you.

Also, I make money on Chat. I get paid for my moderation and marketing skills.

Also, thanks for manning up and taking me off ignore. Grown ups don't need to be putting people on ignore. Emotionally intelligent people don't need to put people on ignore.

Tell that to your little buddy BJ, he takes every opportunity he gets to give himself a BJ about how he's got me on ignore. He's piped down with that a bit after the ownage I dished out to him the last time, to be fair.

1) different polymers **** it up

The first problem is that there are thousands of different plastics, each with its own composition and characteristics. They all include different chemical additives and colorants that cannot be recycled together, making it impossible to sort the trillions of pieces of plastics into separate types for processing. For example, polyethylene terephthalate (PET#1) bottles cannot be recycled with PET#1 clamshells, which are a different PET#1 material, and green PET#1 bottles cannot be recycled with clear PET#1 bottles (which is why South Korea has outlawed colored PET#1 bottles.) High-density polyethylene (HDPE#2), polyvinyl chloride (PVC#3), low-density polyethylene (LDPE#4), polypropylene (PP#5), and polystyrene (PS#6) all must be separated for recycling.

2) it's too expensive

Yet another problem is that plastic recycling is simply not economical. Recycled plastic costs more than new plastic because collecting, sorting, transporting, and reprocessing plastic waste is exorbitantly expensive. The petrochemical industry is rapidly expanding, which will further lower the cost of new plastic.

3) people making plastics claiming it is recyclable should make you think twice

Despite this stark failure, the plastics industry has waged a decades-long campaign to perpetuate the myth that the material is recyclable. This campaign is reminiscent of the tobacco industry’s efforts to convince smokers that filtered cigarettes are healthier than unfiltered cigarettes.

If Luciom was a US Senator:

I didn't know you respected me so much that you compare me to a Harvard Law school graduate magna cum laude (and at a time when Harvard Law was actually a good school!), so something like at a minimum a top 0.1% IQ person

by StoppedRainingMen m

Of all of Lucy’s theoretical horseshit I can safely say I didn’t have β€˜recycling is a Marxist scam’ on my bingo card

I’m not surprised, but still unexpected

It's actually a scam perpetrated by companies making plastics as well, nothing to do with marxism.

At least they think they need gullible morons to believe plastics are easily and efficiently recyclable so that pushes to reduce overall plastic production are weakened.

If the Atlantic is too rightwing of a source, NPR citing freaking greenpeace maybe is good enough for you guys

Waste management experts say the problem with plastic is that it is expensive to collect and sort. There are now thousands of different types of plastic, and none of them can be melted down together. Plastic also degrades after one or two uses. Greenpeace found the more plastic is reused the more toxic it becomes.

New plastic, on the other hand, is cheap and easy to produce. The result is that plastic trash has few markets — a reality the public has not wanted to hear.

/

"We had to re-educate individuals that a great deal of that material is ending up in a landfill," Carpenter said. "It's not going to a recycling facility and being recycled. It's going to a recycling facility and being landfilled someplace else because [you] can't do anything with that material."

/

Greenpeace found a couple facilities are trying to reprocess cups and containers — sometimes called "number 5s" because of the markings on the containers. But the numbers are low. While 52% of recycling facilities in the U.S. accept that kind of plastic, the report found less than 5% of it is actually repurposed — and the rest is put into a landfill.

Similarly, the National Association for PET Container Resources, an industry trade group, found in 2017 that only 21 percent of the plastic bottles collected for recycling were turned into new things.

Satisfied guys? now if something so easy to be informed about (mainstream publications covering it for the scam it is), so obvious to anyone who has a curios mind and surfs the web as a hobby to learn, something i have known since the first time i researched the topic in i think 2010, sounds shocking to you, what else much more complex about our societies could you have been completly manipulated about?

by rickroll m

you think that coloring book should be given out to children in public schools the same way the religiious nutjobs wish your biblical one was given out

both sides see it is as inherently good stuff for all children to be exposed to so see no issues with the cultural grooming

Can the mods make my undertitle, "Religious Nutjob?"

Absolutely!

One of my passions is helping a person who is down on their luck. A girl I know was recently furloughed from her job. She was already a struggling single mother. She asked my advice on what she should do. I asked her if she had any skills or passions she could monetize. She said she loved to paint. I asked if she could make money doing that. She said probably not. That's when I suggested doing a web cam. I told her she is beautiful, funny and a great artist. There will be people on a site that will find value in her and pay her for that. She is now doing great doing just that. She doesn't even need to get naked.

So let me get this straight, people pay to watch her paint? And how do they pay her to be funny? Does he tell jokes while she paints?

So let me get this straight, people pay to watch her paint? And how do they pay her to be funny? Does he tell jokes while she paints?

I'm very confused as well. People on ********** are paying to watch her just sit there in regular clothes and paint? If I wanted to watch people paint, I don't think ********** would occur to me as the place to go. Is this some sort of niche thing like Squat Cobbler?

I can’t tell if that story is creepier if he completely made it up or if it’s actually true

let her paint and support the arts bruh

There are people who take an interest in her art. Many of these folks are also artists. She is funny and has a great personality. She engages her audience. Her audience consists of people like you guys. Lonely people who just want some company. Some folks are waiting and hoping that she gets naked because that's what the vast majority of girls on this sight do. She admits she is shy and doesn't feel comfortable doing that now. For some people it's like getting involved with TV series. They want to know what happens next. Will she eventually take her clothes off? What will her painting look like when it is done?
